That's probably because that's how i wanted to write the story! The tale of a crew that disguises as pirates- not because they're hiding their creature forms, but because they feel more like themselves as pirates. Freed from the burden of their myth's violence and the humans that wish to hunt them, they're more at peace and safer with the Captain then they will ever be. This is especially true for Y/N who I've written as someone who truly wanted a life at sea- and found it not only in the big blue they sailed but with the crewmates they owed everything too. The crew is written like a family, and the au was meant to be a comfort au first and foremost by someone who loves the idea of becoming what you want without restriction or judgment.
