There is still good country out there. You just have to look beyond the crap they play on the radio. Look at what they now classify as "outlaw" country or "Alternative" country. Lots of talented young (and old) players and writers out there!
Hit the nail on the headl with that. Last year before Haggard passed away he was asked about "new country" music. His reply was that he liked Sturgill Simpson but the rest of it was all sxxt.
Just came across this. What fun. Love the jokes, stories. Sammy Allred, telling the stories, has a great personality: He just died age 84 in May this year. (Wikipedia needs updating) They've got some good creds: Here's what wikipedia has to say: The group has appeared on Austin City Limits three times.[4] The Austin Music Awards inducted The Geezinslaws into its Hall of Fame for 2005. The Geezinslaws latest release, Eclectic Horsemen (2005), has guest performances by Willie Nelson, Kinky Friedmanand Kelly Willis. Sammy Allred also worked in radio on and off for over forty years, much of the time as a radio personality on KVET in Austin. He is a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and won the Country Music Association Personality of the Year Award in 2006 and 2007 and the Billboard Personality of the Year Award in 1971 and 1997.[5]
Tell that to Travis Tritt and Allen Jackson they record their own music at their own studio in their house and before them Waylon and Willie strated a thing called outlaw country and they made the first ever platinum album in country music history so todays singers are nothing but puppets or if you would sheeple they make their own music to sell shirts and posters to 15 year old little girls damn prevents that's why I will never lesson to any modern music that and it's crap
Apparently you weren't around during the era of the "Nashville Sound," when record companies had a stranglehold on the industry, which is why Willie, Waylon and Tompall Glaser, among others left Nashville because of lack of support form record companies and producers. Back then, if a singer didn't toe the line, he didn't work. It has come back around to being that way again, but with the advent of online music sales, artists do have a degree of control over what they choose to do. The industry still has control over radio, for the most part, but with Sirius XM and Spotify, they don't have as much control as before.
No Character the "new players" I don't want to call it country, follow orders from all their producers, rec executives, publicity managers and so on and it produces dry talent. Thanks for the post of real people in the act of entertaining.
"I think Mr Hank Williams would roll over in his grave/// If he ever heard what was coming from them Nashville slaves/// Today's country music seems to have lost it's soul/// To me it sounds like watered down rock and roll/// I guess I just can't help it/// It's a part of who I am/// I'm a SON OF A SON of a West Virginia coal mining' man...West Virginia coal mining' man"----Part of a song I wrote called "SON OF A SON"
If the Pop Country hacks today had any ethics, they'd pay royalties to the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Fleetwood Mac for every note they've played for the last fifteen years.
YOU CAN CALL IT ROCK-A-BILLY, BUT THE COUNTRY MUSICIANS DON'T LIKE THAT TERM BECAUSE IT HAS ROCK AND ROLL IN IT. SO WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DID LINK WRAY PLAY ? HE WAS ONE OF THOSE WHO STARTED OUT IN SWING COUNTRY AND PROGRESSED TO ROCK-A-BILLY AND THEN ROCK AND ROLL……………JUST THE REVERSE BECAUSE SOME OF THE COUNTRY PLAYERS WANTED TO PLAY ROCK AN ROLL BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE ROOTS OF ROCK AND ROLL……JERRY LEE LEWIS AND ELVIS WERE ALSO A COUPLE OF THOSE WHO HAD THIS. KINDA SPECIAL CALLING.
Jason wood They do call it country, and it is bad rock and roll. I'm hearing more guitar and less pedal steel. Too many notes per measure, like someone who talks too much, and doesn't say anything. Country has fewer notes and more emotion, because it has fewer notes per measure, their placement is more important. As Johnny Cash would say "A lot of it has to do with how you hold your tongue." Iron American Dream on RU-vid.
I miss Son & Sam a lot.! All the good ones are dying or have Passed. Country is changing and not for the good. Anybody who thinks they can sing are doing that and they all sound the same to me. As Archie Bunker would say, " El Stinko"
New country is so bland, generic, nothing new or original. The CMAS were so bad. I miss the truly talented. Classic Country all the way. Past 2000s it's not even worth talking about.
Who killed country music.mafia.criminals took over . music row.why the greed for the all mighty dirty dollar.look at how many they killed.singers and players.that killed their selves.
What happened was that Nashville chases a sound, especially when it doesn't do well on the Hot 100. First it chased rock sounds which created the likes of Garth Brooke was quickly one of the biggest "country" artists of the time and now it's hip hop which is where bro country comes from. Now that country music is back at the bottom of the Hot 100, the labels will have to find a new sound.
I can not stand country radio I only listen to music that is not stupid. Words are very important in a song the bridge the placement and phrasing it all has a formula that New Country uses same guitar licks big fat backbeat boring no heart no soul no adventure just a formula . Anyone that listens to this should try listening to some good ole country like Hank or Willie or John Prine Flat & Schrugs not sure about the spelling of the names but I am sure about the nice things they do for my ears.
Checkout Guy Clark "The Dark" or Billy Joe Shaver "Window Rock" or Jerry Jeff Walker's "Leavin' Texas" or Gary P Nunn "The Reggae Armadillo".... Happy Listening!
You could say the same about the blues, without the pyrotechnical aspect. It's just shitty rock with guitar solos, seeing as guitar solos in rock went out of style.
Listen to Beth Hart for blues. Yes, she has worked with Slash, but she has made some impressive modern blues such as Baddest Blues, Caught Out In The Rain, Tell Her You Belong To Me, Immortal, Am I The One, Mama, Monkeyback, Love Is A Lie, As Good As It Gets, Swing My Thing Back Around and Mama This One's For You. She has also written some impressive country songs such as Delicious Surprise, Broken and Ugly and House of Sin. The problem with the charts is that labels tend to spend money chasing a sound that is making money. They are no longer into experimentation. Frank Zappa explained that years ago and the video is on RU-vid.
Country music haa always been bad. Now its no different from hip hop. Youre either drinking and dancing in the club or drinking and dancing on a tailgate... No diiference in content or quality.
