I don’t watch it Eastenders anymore but used to watch it at about the turn of the century to 2005 and Phil Mitchell was in his prime then. Steve Macfadden played the role of Phil Mitchell brilliantly. When he loses his temper or gets himself drunk I do find it unintentionally hilarious at times.

Phil Mitchell in (2000-2003) was definitely his prime Years. Dominating the whole square, menacing, violent, a bully and utterly heartless. A fascinating character to watch during that time... Steve Mcfadden played the villianous role so well. Without a doubt a legendary character... you just can't imagine Eastenders without him.

@@blademanx well Dan is living it up in another country after fucking phil over Den got killed by his ex wife Lewis went and got himself arrested for an unrelated crime after Phil let him go Aiden stitched phil up for a murder he himself committed and landed him in hot water with Keeble. Keanu got killed by Linda Carl got killed by Ronnie Archie got killed by Stacey notice a pattern here mate? all of these people messed with him in pretty big ways and Phil didn't actually get his own back either they got off scott free or they were taken care of by other people due to Phil not doing anything about them. in Archie's case his own mom was literally begging him to get rid of him yet all phil did was make the same threat over and over again while Archie didn't take a blind bit of notice lol.

But I think that’s what makes the character even greater. The fact that Steve has portrayed different versions of Phil throughout different eras. My most favourite was the 2000-2003 villainous era. He’s definitely not who he was back in 1990 but I think the Phil today is also quite likeable. And yes his friendship with Arthur Fowler was nice to watch.

Phil could be as brutal as brutal gets when it came to cold heartedness and getting in to peoples heads. Sometimes that’s worse then a punch. Phil’s end has to be brutal when Steve finally retires and all his ghosts have to come back to haunt him. A Soprano’s final season type of trailer with Phil looking out as he thinks about all his sins and all those past voices would be cool as he stands on the spot where he dies as a metaphor for his final appearance only we don’t know yet that it’s the spot he dies until the end of the show. Almost like this isn’t Phil staring out but it’s Phil’s ghost trapped in this state of limbo.

But in a way it kind of proves the point of the characters at the time. Dennis despite being an actual killer and hard man tried living his life and found happiness with Sharon. He did bad things but wasn’t a bad person. Phil allowed a beef with Johnny Allen to be used as an excuse to manipulate the likes of Dennis just to get what he wants. As Phil was actually acting out of spite and didn’t care about other innocent ppl not involved with his personal beef. Very tony soprano like actually in his manipulative and more evil nature here. Especially as he uses Dennis to achieve his goals. But yeah its ironic too since Phil is built up as this big bad guy that could kill someone but had to use Dennis to do it.
