I own a property in San Diego, CA. With 4 units. I keep 1 for me and rent the others. I cashed out 100k and bought a property in Baja Mex. With 4 units. I then built my retirement home on that same property. Now I'm living retirement at 50 yrs. Old without completely leaving the USA. I'm not struggling 😊 living off rents from the US. And Mexico.

I’m retired and 74. I’m moving to Mexico for a cheaper cost of living! Assisted living is too expensive in the USA, and I may require it in the near future! My family has a house in Carambuche Baja sur, so no rent. My social security and pension will easily cover my expenses. I just renewed my passport, and I guess it must be 6 months old before you can apply for retirement visa. I should be there by January 2024, and after my 180 day visa expires I’ll apply for temporary residence visa. Duane

@duanethompson2360 Congrats Duane! It's great that you have a family house in Mexico...that will surely be a soft landing. I just turned 60yrs old and already obtained my 4yr temp visa back in March 2023, but I'm still working a job in the US...not retired yet. Just a suggestion: Since you are ALREADY RETIRED, you should go for the PERMENANT Visa when your 180 days expires. It will be more costly to go for the TEMP since you have to have it for 4 yrs BEFORE going to the PERM Visa. Being retired, you can probably skip 4 yrs and jump RIGHT INTO THE PERM Visa. Good luck to you and success to you on your new journey.

Jose I’d like to add that what you’ve said here is good solid advice and I can’t argue with it. I think that on top of the attitude thing and making the adjustment from working to retirement as early in life as possible, that along the way watch how you eat and exercise to take care of your health, because I think those factors contribute to a healthy old age and enjoying it just as much as having the freedom to live how you want. I think that Mexico can contribute to those things because it’s easy to eat healthy here and if you live in a walkable city like I do it’s easy for you to get your exercise just by living. I’ve been in Mexico for almost three years now and I’m 72 and I eat simply, cooking all my own meals, eating very few highly processed foods, so getting fresh fruit and vegetables every day and walking pretty much everywhere. I had started this lifestyle before I left the US, because I have for a long time wanted to be as healthy as possible. I didn’t want to be old and sick, there’s no fun in that. So I wasn’t able to retire until I was 55, but I’ve been crafting a healthy life even before then and it’s paid off. I, thankfully, almost never need to see a doctor and I feel very good every day. My life in Mexico has played a big part in my continuing to be this way. It’s easier here than in the US where it’s next to impossible to find good food and people drive everywhere getting little or no exercise but it’s so much easier here. I tell my friends about this life all the time, because I want them to be happy and healthy and that’s why I’m sharing this with you. Take care and keep making great videos!

I went on a trip to Europe in my early thirties. I grew up in Ireland, and then the USA. I always only went to Ireland and back. This particular time, I had a few extra bucks to explore a little bit of Europe, I went to Paris, then Prague, then Florence and Milan. The thing that I noticed on the trip was that all the Americans that I met were in their mid sixties and upwards . They bought the program unfortunately, they were told to work hard and then retire and enjoy life in their sixties. I realized then and there not to wait until retirement to enjoy life, hell a lot of people dont even make it to retirement, they die along the way. And if you do, it's not the best time to travel unless you have kept yourself in super good shape. I think the four hour workweek plan is a hell of a lot better, enjoy life along the way and don't put it off to some random day, far far in the future...cause you might not even make it that far.

Hey Jose, just wanted to comment that moving to Mexico is the best thing I have done in a long time. It takes a willingness to adapt as it is not the US and all it's luxuries but that's ok actually is great in most respects. The biggest benefits are it's low cost of living, freedoms many compared to US, no worries of money anymore(coming from NYC) and yes I lived in Merida for $800-1000 a month (plus I saved a ton) wasn't hard and I liked much better living in a Mexican Colonia Jesus Carranza it was great for most part. So yeah it is a no brainer if you can look past the sidewalks, roads, cold showers, whatever Mexico is beautiful in it's own way if you can see the beauty and the many freedoms that is Mexico well the US does not look that great. In conclusion, "anyone can live well in Mexico well with dollars" it's changing of a mindset it's not hard but if you are always comparing to the US then it is much harder. Just come have patience it should grow on you and if not can always go back to the US.

We pulled the plug and sold our home and business in 2018/19 and moved to Nayarit Mexico full time in 2019. It was a great move and we love where we live. Additionally our home/property has already more than doubled in value in four years. Cost of living is about 40% of what it was for us in Northern California but more importantly the way that life presents itself to you here is so good for your soul. Strangers greet you often and people are so kind and helpful in comparison. We retired at 58 and will start taking our Social Security when we are fully vested at 67 years of age.

Actuarial studies show that is way more convenient to retire early. The person who retires at 62 basically gets the same money until the end of the his/her life that he would have been receiving retiring at 67. If you already made your mind, it is ok. But what I stated is a conclusion based on historical data.

@@JoseArteagaTravels Let's debunk for a moment. I'm writing you from our home in SMA right now, having spent all afternoon walking through the 90% Mexican town of SMA, hearing almost zero English. My neighbours are Mexican. The entire street I live on is 98% Mexican. Nope, this town is Mexican with about 10% expats sprinkled around the city. Lots of expensive homes in pockets, but they are 1/2 the cost of equivalent things in the US. The majority of the rich here are Mexican, not expats. Spanish is heard in the expensive restaurants, not English. Certainly, this is one of the more expensive retirement/expat destinations and that causes challenges for the local population, no doubt. It has changed and will keep evolving. There is a well-known and famous expat infrastructure here that has been building since WWII. You get what you pay for. But, the people ripping out old buildings, putting up new structures, spending big money on gentrification are mostly...Mexican.

@@yumyumkitty2104 Yea that's what I hear too, that being said I do think there are a couple of professions that may make reasonable wages in Mexico such as engineering, arcetecture, doctors and possibly just possibly programmers, but I don't know for sure. Mexico is also weird in how it pays people, like for example the average job in Mexico isn't going to pay you much more than $1000 a month, but they also give you a housing allowance every year that builds up and most people in 10 to 15 years time have enough from that allowance to put a considerable down payment on a house, usually over 50%. So looking up wage stats doesn't really tell the whole story. Anyways thanks for the reply, I'm trying to learn all I can because I really want to move to Mexico.

Let's say you graduate at 24 out of college or trade school and start saving for retirement until you're about 70. 99.9 % of the time you will not see or know you have seen the cartel. Most of them only come out at night if they come out. They are not mighty soldiers as you might have been lead to believe. I was told they are cowards if alone, so they have to be in a group so they can have cover for each other. There are many young guys with walkie talkies that let the cartel leaders know what is going on so they don’t accidentally run into the police or military who they really fear the military most. Some police are cartel themselves. You will see well dressed people and wonder who they are, some are businessmen and some are cartel and some are both. If you stay away from wicked people and drugs you will be fine. Stay home after dark is a great rule at any age. btw, I am ex military and I am 70 yo. and I am in Mexico for several years now.❤
