I think mostly it's her being overprotective and selfish. Ada is her rock/true companion. Sure, she's sharp-tongues, sounds not so nice but she's all barks (no bites). Ada has known this and she's understood Agnes very well, bore her well too. Agnes kind of takes Ada for granted, in fact. Agnes can't stand that Ada, her true friend/sister/companion was to leave her. She knows she's overbearing and set in her ways, also perhaps has been dealing with trauma with bitterness, only Ada was the only who would bear her, so she's mad...it is actually lucky that Ada married Luke as we learned in the final episode LOL
