My wife was affiliated with the communist when she lived in the Soviet Union. She explained that there was very little chance of a quality life without doing so. I understand this woman's allegiance to communism at that time in her life. People do often change their position on such things with maturity...as did my wife.What I don't quite understand is her more recent ideology which seems to support a Marxist approach. My wife is fearful of the direction this country is going and is quite vocal about referring what's taking place in this country as deja vu. She is overwhelmed with deep appreciation by the free society that is the United Sates of America.

If you born in USSR, you're automatically a "communist youth" - which it has never been referred to as, the most common word we use is Pioneers. As the world works now any money you put in a bank account doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to the bank and they will give it to you as required. At least with that system (while not perfect) is at least a step removed from the government. She seems to think we would be better off with the government having direct custody of our money.

A few years ago I owned a small safety consulting company here in the U.S., much of our business overseas. Our branch office in Kazakhstan called one day to let me know we were 60K short in our bank account. Our accountant told us not to worry, the Kz government 'borrowed' the money but they promised it would be returned. The accountant said this 'just happens sometimes'. There are banks as we know them, except they are all owned/operated by the KZ government. This put an extreme hardship on our company. However, they did redeposit the same amount 'borrowed' back in our account a month later. The banking system in Kz is modelled the same as in Russia. Be very afraid of this type of 'banking' under control of the government. FYI
