My prescription reading glasses with astigmatism correction changed my life for the better. I can read for hours now without getting nauseous or having headaches. Even though our eyesight changes as we age, still be grateful you have vision. I woke up one morning blind in one eye from an eye stroke. I didn't even know what an eye stroke was. I was 44 yrs old, healthy, and had no risk factors. I spent three days in the hospital, and they never found the cause. So after you have something like that happen to you, you stop complaining and start being grateful for your vision and that you can get glasses to correct what needs correcting.

Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your experience. I agree with you 💯!

glasses are the blame for creating astigmatism in 99% of people, not the cornea, it is the lens that is bent unevenly by the ciliary, totally reversable, any astigmatism BEFORE you wore glasses, prolly not

First off, kudos to your video person. The production quality is great on these videos. As a person who also does video production I can understand the frustration of needing to see up close. I have an eye exam with my doc in a couple of weeks and will be inquiring on bifocal contacts. I have to use my camera’s viewfinder rather than lcd screen to make sure I have clear focus. I don’t trust my reading glasses to look at the lcd screen anymore. I also found out last year I have some color deficiency in reds and greens, so I have to pay extra attention to my video scopes when color grading. My early 40s are in full swing to say the least.

It feels like such a betrayal, especially if you're already nearsighted. 😂

I know 😆 After I filmed this I thought to myself how depressing it was... I almost didn't want to post the video... haha.

Im the ONLY one at work that doesnt use readers in my age range and I have better lasik distance vison than any of them, It was the food that made my presbyopia much worse than it should have been, I dont have to ask my coworkers to read small print for me anymore, STUNNED!!!!!!!

I have had 20/15 for over 15 years after my Lasik surgery in 2006 and I distinctly remember my surgeon telling me that I will get presbyopia when I get older...at the time I was like whatever! I still have a long way to go and I can see perfectly so who cares!! Now that the time has come it definitely bothers me and I just can't get used to it! I am still at +0.75 in both eyes and by ophthalmologist tells me to hold off on wearing glasses until I actually can't see at all up close! I was always curious about the fact that this presbyopia seems to also affect my distance vision too when I am looking at something close and then look up and far away...I can tell that my eyes are taking longer to adjust to focus...and that coupled with my DES frustrates me as I have fluctuating blurriness throughout the day. Grateful to have healthy eyes though, apart from the chronic dry eyes which I am working towards getting relief!

Thank you for the video: Been suffering Presbyopia for 20 yrs now. Left eye is nearly 20 but right eye…well when I adjust binoculars to focus each eye the right side is adjusted to max. Right (lazy) eye is very blurry (far distances) but I can focus on near items pretty good…Right eye is the opposite. The extreme differences make it difficult to adjust prescription glasses to accommodate both eyes properly. Broke my prescription glasses 6 months ago, I’m on a fixed income so can’t afford new ones. Today I wear mild reading glasses with the left lens removed and it’s about the same as when I had prescription glasses. I sometimes wonder if they could just remove the bad eye and I’ll wear a monocle or maybe I’ve heard wearing a patch over good eye may make bad eye work harder (but I would essentially be blind while wearing patch). Getting old is painful and expensive

I told my friend I was getting presbyopia and he laughed at me, saying that he was sorry I had bad genes. I told him I was pretty sure this happened to most people. He told me his parents never needed glasses, and he was sure his eyes would be fine. Are some people lucky that way?

Yup I've gotten this in the past year. I turned 49 in July last year and now I have trouble reading the small text on my phone like battery status (what percentage battery is left) and text on my phone. On the other hand I can see things better in the distance than I have in the past 20 years. When I look up in mountains I can see buildings where as two years ago I could barely make out what a car looked like 60 foot away because I'm very short sighted.

What gives better vision a distance set monofocal with a premium monofocal set more intermediate or a distance monofocal with a multifocal?

Can presbyopia cause anisocoria if the presbyopia is only in one eye?

Can eye exercises do anything for this? Is it possible to get "strong enough" muscles to bend the stiffening lens?

Thank you for this.. I am just now dealing with this. I turned 49 a few weeks ago and just shortly before had an eye exam and am presbyopic. My add power was 2.0 Diopter for both eyes. I also had a small amount of astigmatism (-.50 each eye) What surprised me was I was told I needed slight distance correction. Turns out I am Hyperopic as well with just a small amount of plus power for sphere (+.25 left +.50 right) My question is why does Presbyopia affect distance distance, and how much worse does astigmatism & distance vision get affected as we age?
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy Год назад
Great comment and thanks for sharing your experience. Presbyopia affects near vision... but people may notice transitioning to distance objects may take longer. Also... changes in that same lens could result in changes in astigmatism. Hard to predict from person to person how it will change as they age.

@@DrEyeGuy I'd really wish someone would do a detailed video on Presbyopia interacts on other refractive errors (astigmatism,hyperopia, myopia, and non error Emotropia) I know you touched on how Myopes can often remove glasses to read up close. I'm having a hard time finding information on how Hyperopia interacts with Presbyopia, most of the info is on how they differ. From what I could find it seems that the Hyperopes are most affected by Presbyopia.I've been trying to learn what I can about Presbyopia so that I can take care of my eyes and also know what to ask the Eye Doctor next year when I go for my next eye exam. Thank you for all you do!

I have trifocals. Can i do bifocal contacts and computer glasses for when im at work? Hope i explained it correctly. At work i wear computer only glasses. Then i switch to my bifocals when i leave work. I did not like the trifocal lenses. It was a nightmare.
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy Год назад
Yes you can, but it might be trickier with the contacts to get the power right. The multifocal contacts have zones of power and are designed to help with all distances.

Quick Fun Joke: When someone asks me what religion I am I tell them I’m Presbyopic and say nothing else…by the time they look up the definition I have avoided an undesirable conversation and technically I didn’t lie
