Your Feelings and Why They Don't Matter 

In every intelligent discussion, there seems to be a feelings person there trying to derail it. They're disruptive.

It comes as a shock to most women that their feelings don't carry the same weight as facts

Thank you Paul for saying it exactly like it is! I am so sick and tired of having to jump through hoops (change) to accommodate women. They in return, are so inconsiderate and when I ask them to accommodate me in the same way, they throw a shit fit claiming they wont change for anyone! If you ask a second time they will call you abusive. Anyone that is so arrogant to say they wont change for anyone, thinks they are perfect and have no room for improvement. Emotionally they are morons. Recently, I helped my girlfriend with a work project and she landed up with the top project. The next fight she accused me of getting enjoyment from making her "feel dumb"!?!?. I asked her if that was the truth. Did I do anything to make her feel dumb or is she reliving a traumatic childhood event. She thinks about it and realizes a moment at school when the teacher was helping her and the class was humiliating and laughing at her. I have to get her to reflect on whether it is in her best interest to chew everyone's head off that helps her? Then they will argue with you that feelings are just as valid a facts. Simple things that we self-diagnose and solve in 5 mins, they will spend their entire lifetime banging their head on the wall or need therapy for. We have to do the thinking for two adults, but wont be treated with any respect because we are men - and know nothing about emotions. We are told women mature faster than us. This is a lie. Scan the maturity scale starting from age 1 and work your way up until you match her behavior. You will usually find them around age 12. Not mysterious. Not complicated. Not complex. Just immature. We are only men, what do we know!??

Exactly. It's not the men don't have emotions it's that we have better control of our emotions.

As a Stoic, one you realise that feelings are just an unthinking automatic reaction to events, you can't "unsee" it. People are just blobs of reaction, with no thought involved.

Interesting perspective. It is the reason I came to the conclusion that a husband is expected to be a 1) perfect man. 2) perfect husband. 3) perfect father to their bride. Anything less than perfect and you need fixed or forgotten. Why a father to their wife..?...we are expected to make all things better, protect them from their immorality that may surface for an hour, or a day or a week. Protect your wife from bad decisions that lead to immorality. Three levels of perfection are what is expected of men and husbands, even though I was very close to this perfect man, my wife chose to break every marriage vow and then leave me in divorce. -MGTOWmonk14years and counting...

Men's feelings don't matter until the day SHTF, and suddenly you're needed. What will you say at that time?

I enjoy your insight, Dr. Paul. It's true that many women act this way. The shame is that the type of women who would benefit most from this advice would only be offended and unlikely to heed it.

Women generally really only ask how you are feeling so she can tell you how she really feels at that moment. Men learn to manage them over a longer term and judge when they really contribute or will matter to anyone else. They are taught that all feelings are valid and need to be expressed by healthy adults but not men. Women communicate more easily emotionally. Our emotional range is much more targeted to results.

That's why I consider chasing happiness is such a bs term or deserving to be happy.Its a fleeting emotion a by product , instead we should chase success/endeavors.

Reminds me of that book "Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars" where it criticizes men for being "Mr. Fixit" when it comes to women's emotional needs. I get people sometimes need to vent that do not need to always be addressed by being frontal cortex about it. But there is something that seems counter productive about encouraging one half of the population to think that finding pragmatic solutions for "muh emotions" is optional, or even thinking that it's healthy to being avoidant about doing so.

Absolutely genius here paul and I didn't realize just how relevant this is until recently. It bears even further discussion in the realm of the female narcissist which has now caught up with men in terms of diagnosable cases in just the last 20 or so years.

My comment is not a gender issue, rather a societal issue, but it still pertains to this video, I think. Generations of kids have spent their formative years in daycares, with overwhelmed, incompetent, or dangerous people, or some combination. These kids learned from life in daycare that the way to get attention was to be the one crying the loudest. Those kids grew up, and they're all around us today.

At 8:24 however, you missed out on one amazing song writer, from no less than Texas like yourself and you even sound a bit like him (that's a genuine compliment by the way) Guy Clark. Thank you Dr. Elam. Do you have any good books on relationships you could recommend for a young man like me who's looking to have a stable traditional, Christian relationship.

I had an ex who was emotionally regressed unto infancy. The only way she could meet my (normal and modest) emotional needs was in the bedroom. Have to say, it was an altogether acceptable arrangement.

At 2 years of age I went to hug my grandfather and was pushed away with "You're a man, men don't hug and kiss they shake hands!". I still remember this today and it's been 70 years since then. The only reason for a man to exist was and is to provide for his woman and the kids and he has to live up to her expectations while she can spend his hard earned money, live off the fruits of his labour, and deny him sex or make it so unpleasant that he decides it's not worth the effort and that's her prerogative but his duty as a man to keep giving and being used.
