Makes me feel the effort is worthwhile when people come back with this sort of feedback, thanks.

And thank you so much for the kind donations! Every penny (cent) will be re-invested in the channel so I really do appreciate it.

Another great vid Mark. Really sound advice here. I wish you had made this vid a year ago before I went bezerk and spent a fortune on Eurorack. As you say it’s too easy to fall for the spell and buy lots of voices, which when you’ve run out of money you can’t use. With this set up you have the core modules that are very playable, but will remain useful as the system expands. The main take is know what you want to achieve with your rack. I thought I knew, I reckon I’ve sold 90% of my original set up as they didn’t do what I wanted. For chuggy house/techno the set ups that you suggest are perfect :)

I’ve learnt the hard way too don’t worry :) we want to make better sounds so we buy new voices but have no way of controlling and playing them. At least the second hand market is pretty robust.

Depth is definitely the thing to take care of, and ritual electronics are making interesting 1U modules too

Depth is your enemy in these cases and I also recommend leaving as every slot filled with a ribbon cable if you are regularly switching out modules as it’s a bugger to add cables without removing the 1U bar! Can be done with the dexterity of a surgeon tho!!!

Another great Video Mark, been looking forward to your next one. I know the Doepfer A-111-6v is often featured in your videos, would that be another useful module to consider in a starter case like this?
@markbooth
@markbooth Год назад
Yes definitely! As long as there are plenty of modulation points

Thank you very much for this Tutorial I am trying to get into modular now for a while but always when I was about to purchase something I got the question in my mind "It is worth the money? How much value per money do I get for that" and the answer was usually "not enough to justify that yet" This was of cause partly because I was lacking some of the key gear which keeps my setup running. I had a Digitakt for a while and got a Digitone lately. And now with this both amazing instruments which I can use for all solid work. I might want to invest a bit of money into some modules. But my doubts about eurorack are still there. I need side-chaining in the box because I want to use my setup as DAWless as possible. And I really do need some basic EQ for the Eurorack. But I have a hard time finding the right modules for that. I even start thinking of DIY a Mixer with Build-in Sidechaining, EQ, Panning and some other stuff by myself! (But this would be an expensive and time consuming project, lol)

Can you run the Eurorack output through the Digitakt and sidechain it against a kick from there? Im not familiar with the Elektron gear sorry. If not, it’s really hard to do everything in Eurorack on a budget. If you really want your kick in modular, a Knobula Kickain has built in sidechain so a good option

@@markbooth Thanks for the answer ! :) No I don't want to do Drums on Modular. I am happy how the come out out of the Digitakt. I have my Digitone Connected to the Digitakt and the Modular would then be connected to the Digitone. Indeed The Digitakt Master Compression helps a lot with the "pumping" Effect but I think it is necessary to do some kind of "pre-sjidechaining" directly in the box. On the Digitone there are multiple ways to do that. I have the experience that the overall result will have a much higher quality if I dont try to rely on the Digitakts compressor. For the modular I was thinking about a "Cockpit V2" with a "Golden Master" or sth similar. But I am not 100% convinced, yet. Eurorack Design decisions do really feel like Work some times xD

the WMD C4RBN module is sold out worldwide spontaneously there is one or another offer and 2 hand in USA Do you have any that you can sell me?

I wish I had a stock of them but sadly I only have two so I can use them on a stereo voice. I’d recommend a Steve’s MS-22 but those are on a long back order too sadly

Hey it's a comment section, I'll share my opinions! I'd rather put something like 3xMIA in instead of drums, which would go in another box, eg Volca or model:cycles. The kick drum is absolutely essential to the music, but it also tends to benefit least from the modulation, so for a first case, I'd rather have hats or a maybe some kind of compact sampler? (Sample Drum? Pico Drum?)
@markbooth

3xMIA is a great option or a quadratt 1U. Either will tame Clep Diaz nicely.

I always have clock, kick, and compressor in another case but assumed that the viewer doesn’t necessarily have one

You mentioned you don't like "playing" Pam's - what about mimetic digitalis?
@markbooth
@markbooth Год назад
I usually experiment for a few minutes and save a main groove in slots 1 and 4 and secondary in 5 and 8, just in case a finger slip causing an accidental overwrite! So not really playing it but loading save slots. It’s great at coming up with grooves itself though, especially resetting it early it switching to trigger X or Y instead.
@GeorgeLocke

NB: Mimetic Digitalis sends out quantized CV, but it's chromatic. So it won't give you "microtonal" pitches that are between the keys, but neither will it stick to a major/minor scale. So unless you like discordant music, you still need a quantizer.
@markbooth
@markbooth Год назад
Mimetic can be programmed manually to be musical but I prefer to just hit the load shred on channels 1-3 and load zero shred on channel 4 through a quantiser for pitch to create an arp.
