But I think it's important to realize that, while it may be the best we can do right now, our criminal justice system is FAR from perfect, and it's very easy to become disillusioned with it. Many people (myself among them) do not think that the punishments on the books for molesting a child are enough. Besides that, there are all-too-many instances when justice is NOT served (wrong person convicted, guilty persons getting off on technicalities, political and financial shenanigans, etc), so that it can sometimes be hard to have faith in the system. I point this out because, with the system as flawed as it is, SoMeTiMeS a vigilante may in truth have a better course to True Justice; rarely, it's true, but let's not condemn them all wholesale, especially because, as you say, they care about doing what they feel is right. And the drive to actually Get Up and DO Something is admirable in and of itself; these people are trying to make the world a better, safer place. However, we as humans live in a society, in which social rules must be followed to maintain order among these vast and varied groups of us living together, and these social rules are agreed upon by the society at large. We made the rules, and We bear the responsibility for maintaining or changing them. If we want society to be stronger, we have to work within it to strengthen it. If we want the justice system to work better, we have to Make it work by investing ourselves in the process, and taking responsibility for the power we DO have in shaping and governing our society. Vigilantes happen because people feel they have no power to change or improve the systems and processes our societies have already established, but every time someone gives up on the system it gets weaker. Vigilante justice may be justice, but only ever on the small scale and the short term; only a few predators will be caught and punished, and it's not sustainable. If we want justice, we need to work for it and fight for it, and we must remember that we are not just living in this world, but we are also preparing it for posterity. If our laws are not satisfactory for you, work to change them for the next generation, because we DO have the power to do so.

Junaka 13 is the national age of consent in Japan. However, the prefectures' age of consent laws range between 16 to 19 or so. Honestly, I think lowering the age of consent would be risky without proper sex education, and parents are still generally touchy about whether children should have sex ed classes as opposed to being taught it at home. I'd say 16 would be the safest limit, as that is the age of consent in the UK, some European countries, and many states in the US. One would also argue that teens are still not emotionally or mentally mature enough to have sex with an adult and an adult would be more capable of manipulating a minor. I think thorough sex education and teaching kids how to recognize unhealthy relationships, abuse, and manipulation would help at least a bit.

Despite the flaws of the show, the CBS crew DID go through some law enforcement training and worked in cooperation with local law.
