Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (Switch) Review - Solid RPG but ObNOXious Switch Port

Nice review! Other people will probably point this out but the audio was balanced wrong for this video. The background track overpowered your voice track making it difficult to understand what you were saying at points.

did the update fix the blurry graphics and framerates?

Anyone remember when no one cared about frame rate?

Already finished the game on PS4. Still buying the Collector's edition for this.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the other consoles necessary to Play Ys 9, so I guess I'll just have to make due. Ah well, maybe we'll get lucky and the devs will release a patch fixing some of the issues... At least, a guy can dream right?

I dont get the hate for the city. Having played a decent amount so far I greatly enjoy traversing the city. Its different from the island and that's the point. I think I might've gotten bored if it was just like the old island

The new movement options are nice but the story and enemy varitey are a huge stepdown from the last 3 Ys games. Was neat seeing a remade Vagillion (broke ass bat boss from the orginal Ys) as the second boss and lots of other little call backs but idk just kinda felt meh compared to ys games lately.

Glad I bought this on Steam instead. Not only is it cheaper, it can run up to 120fps mode. The combas is smooth af.

Regarding the frame drop I'm not really that worried as my LG TV will carry me through running the image at 120hz native from 2 of its hdmi back ports. So either way win win for me. Yeah I'll definitely see the drops but they won't be that bad as long as I'm on docked. Let's hope NX Pro comes out soon.

I was hoping for an improvement from Ys 8

I beat the game on ps5 as well, it stayed at a locked 60fps the whole time with no dips in graphical fidelity. I tried the Switch demo and it felt incredibly jank to play.

even on ps3 this would not be good graphics... wonder why it runs so badly on switch... it makes me a bit angry/sad since I want to play this on a portable device :(

Ys IX has no excuse for performing worse than games like Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2 or others. The FPS noticeably drops every time you move the camera while playing in handheld & it's not something that happens the further into the game you get, it performs that badly in the intro level when you're not even in the larger areas yet. For comparison I played & loved Ys VIII on my PS Vita, Ys IX has worse performance than that. Also as a nitpick I think the character model animation for walking/running is rubbish, like they got an amateur to do it.

You have to be a SUPER WEEB FAN to not mind playing this game in 15fps

The performance is pure terror don't buy this for the switch
