IT'S TIME TO D-D-D-D-D-D-DOMESDAY!
We're happy to bring you another white whale from the anime LD space: Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie (1999)! Affectionately called Season 0, this LD comes as a capstone to the initial 27 episode Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series by Toei.
The LD for this release was in pristine condition, requiring very little effort to capture. Only one small dropout was corrected for the dolby digital surround audio track. The video however required extensive restoration techniques including global color correction to remove the yellow tint, blend reduction due to a poor film transfer, and color bleed correction.
Due to a global copyright block, the featured song in the ED, "Even if You Break Tomorrow" by WANDS, has a fitting replacement exclusive to this version on RU-vid. The download version contains the song intact.

There's a Playlist of Season 0 in full for 2 years now on RU-vid, I don't think they care nor do I think they have full ownership of it because it's from before Konami stepped in and took the YuGiOh anime brand. Toei doesn't seem to care ether even though they made it.

Does anyone know a lot about Field of View? Can someone explain to me why the opening theme for this movie is an entirely different performance of the same song used for the anime opening? And why the performance of the song used in the anime features different drums to those in the official release of the song? Also, those anyone know of these versions (movie and anime) of the song were releases officially in CDs, etc?

Not really. It's pretty watered down compared to the manga. I actually think the Japanese version of Duel Monsters got away with more; people just don't realize that since they've only seen the 4Kids dub.

@Thatdarnraven It's a more enjoyable experience, IMO! Japanese DM managed to get away with on-screen murder, torture, threatened suicide, etc. Meanwhile Toei couldn't even show Yami lighting that criminal on fire without making it a hallucination. (Unlike the manga where the guy really did burn to death)

Like many anime films, it was more than likely animated and shot open matte and cropped to theatrical aspect ratio for screenings and home video releases.

Yes, it is. Not only is the LaserDisc letterboxed, but as a theatrical production, it would have been screened in theatrical aspect ratio even if it was animated in 4:3.

@@logicaltips4107This isn't an OVA, an OVA is something that's straight released to disc but this actually was first seen in theaters so despite what the length would have you believe it is indeed a movie by how people generally categorize anime (original form of release.)

Considering they can't re-release it without making a new deal with Toei who also can't do anything with it? They don't have much incentive. The opening and ending themes which are still being re-released are the most risky parts, with the show itself only being in danger if it gets a lot of views.

@@12me91Original Video Animation is something released first on home video, while this had a theatrical release. OVA classification is not about the length of the movie, it's about the original method of release.
