Zaheer Abbas was the most elegant, stylish batsman of his time and one of out top five stylish batsmen who ever played. His off drive and cover drive were a delight to watch just like that of Gundappa Viswanath.
Zaheer Abbas was a magnificent batsman of his time. His cover drives were rhythm of a poetry and looked like a fresh roses of a garden. When he was in devastating form, the famous world class bowlers like Bedi, Chandra, Prassana, Holding, Lille, Thompson, Andi Roberts, Marshall, Willis, Bradley looksost ordinary.
"Though he only averaged 44.79 ... " ??? .... An average of almost 45 had been highly respectable back then given the fact that the game in general had been a much more balanced battle between the batsmen and the bowlers unlike now. In fact, an average over 40 had been a rarity back then, only a handful of them averaged over 50, unlike now even any a lot more mediocre Tom, Dick and Harry would boast an (elevated) average of 40 or more. Coupled with all the grace with which he played his strokes, Zaheer Abbas surely must have had been a magnificent batsman to watch. Another very striking aspect had been his record in ODIs; 2500 runs in just 60+ games at an average of almost 48 scored at the strike rate of almost 85 is head and shoulders above the records of most other greats of his era and would be second only to that of Viv Richards, that again only marginally .... With all due respect to Miandad, Inzamam Ul Haq, Younis Khan, etc., who too had been great batsmen produced by Pakistan in their own right, none of them would even come close to the trio of Saeed Anwar, Yousuf Youhana (Mohammad Yousuf) and Zaheer Abbas when it comes to the sheer elegance and flair with which they made all their runs ....
@@idioticoutburst4165 Yes, Miandad had been very effective, and had been quite prolific too in terms of the runs he made over almost 2 decades. Still with all due respect to him, I don't think he would come anywhere close to the trio of Saeed Anwar, Yousuf Youhana (Mohammad Yousuf) and Zaheer Abbas in terms of sheer elegance and flair.
The balance between bat and bowl in the era when Zaheer played is the punch line. What makes him great is that he was so stylish that he never needed slog or current days street cricket improvisations to amass runs at a brisk rate. Zaheer is easily a textbook of batting for those who want to be batsman n not sloggers.
@@HLANGL Javed was always a good learner and improviser. His batting was not his original style but more of the circumstances that he was batting in. Maiandad had the cunning of a great cricketing mind with the ambition to always prevail irrespective of the opposition and he had immense tenacity to patiently live through stressful times. He remained the mainstay of Pakistan batting throughout late 70s until early 90s because Pakistan could not get a dependable opening pair all through this period. Miandad at No 4 was actually facing the new ball within first 5 overs irrespective of tests or ODIs. Zaheer was always Jared's mentor and Saeed,Inzimam, Yousaf and Younis were talented but they became batsman under Jared's stint as coach of Pakistan team. If we see videos of these batsmen before and after Javed's coaching there is a marked difference in their approach and attitude towards building their innings and tackling situation when the odds are against. Shahid Afridi too benefitted from Javed's coaching his aggressive but erratic style got perfected when he got miandad coaching him. Afridi might not agree but his First Test century against India did show the impact javed haf on him.
@@syednaseer7497 Yes, Miandad had been a great & highly influential batsman with great endurance too without any shadow of doubt at all, well & truly accepted, in both Tests and ODIs too, despite his lack of classical elegance and sublimity compared to the likes of Saeed Anwar, Yousuf Youhana (Mohammad Yousuf) and Zaheer Abbas .... Perhaps, an influential coach too as you've mentioned ....
One of the best world class player from Pakistan. Flamboyant and stylish to the core. He was always a treat to watch and extremely difficult to get out, if he was on form
Uncle who is zaheer abas is he indian, kia woh shoib malak se acha khelta ta,i am in 8th grad student kia woh aaj kal k indian bolers ki patayi kar sakte tey
@@milestoneacademy4257 beta g Zaheer Abbass ne Indian kia world ke all renowned bowlers ko buhat he acha khela. Wo buhat he stylish cricketer tha. Made three double hundreds and two of them were in England against England. And a prolific one day player of his era.
Zaheer abbas scored two double centuries in England 1971 1974 australia scored 101 90 85 1976 played world Series under packer who signed him majid khan imran khan also only Asian players to play unfortunately majid khan saab zaheer abbas should have played odi cricket in late 80s 90s pak would have won atleast two world cups
My dad used to tell me.. Yr us time bs 2 naam thy Viv and Zaheer most stylish classy batsmen of the world.. Means viv and zaheer were the most stylish ever.. Just those 2 names were ruling the cricket world those days
Zaheer was the BEST batsman Pakistam EVER HAD👌👌👌He would gently hit sixes. No batman ever was as good as him in history. I watched him live in 1979 world cup semi final.
And those had not been any mere exaggerations either .... Definitely, there seemed to have had been something aesthetically so appealing about the way he batted ....
I'm glad I got to see him score 274 live on TV. I have seen all of his test centuries. His 4 double centuries were brilliant. The 274 vs England was only in his second test match at Edgbaston. His 215 vs India at Lahore was his hundredth first class century.
The only batsman who i believe was at par with zaheer in style was Mohammed azharuddin . Both averaged in midforties in tests. Zaheer had 4 double centuries in his 12 hundereds...azhar didnot score double century but had 22 hundereds. in testsIn ODI zaheer was among the greatest of his era . Similarly azhar was among the greatest in the 1990s in odis .
Zaheer abbas's average wasn't 44.74 at all his average was 90.55 off just 120 matches. And his time the cricket was more critical, more competitive and more skilled than the era of don bradman. Don bradman was a batter who faced bowlers of much and much less quality from the bowlers faced by the great Zaheer abbas. After all Bradman's average was 90.99. More then that when bradman was a batter the english condition was very much less seam and less sluggish. The aussie condition was less swing and less sluggish then abbas's condition and obviously the 70's and 80's were the periods of golden age of pace bowling. Again all odds Zahir abbas made 80 hundreds on just 100 matches. So, no batter till now even came near to the shoe of the great master Zaheer Abbas. Hats off to this greatest legend of batting art of world cricket.
These bowlers look like club bowlers. Oliviera and England captain bowling wouldn’t even qualify to bowl for my club team in Staffordshire division 1. That left arm spinner Underwood is worse than monty panesar
gemma harden I never mentioned yasir shah. He is crap. I meant compared to McGrath Warne McGill Murali qadir Akram waqar Shoaib Akhtar, steyn, all the bowlers on show in the clip above are absolute dibbly dobblys. Zahir Abbas feasted on them all. Lolly pop bowlers either bowling too short or too full. Have a look at olivera trundling along to bowl a 50 mph lolly pop at 3:08. Top it up with school boy long hops by underwood at 4:30 and 5:10. England captain coming to bowl on at 3:30 😂😂 and this is a bloody test match. Our standard of RDCA CRICKET team when I opened the batting with Shoaib Akhtar and company spearing in 95mph thunderbolts would have been galaxies above the standard of this pie chucking English attack
gemma harden as far as fits of diahorrea are concerned, I played a club cricket match in Pakistan when I was 17 and Mohammad zahid who was faster than Shoaib Akhtar opened the bowling for the opposite side. I scored 37 only but came out with 2 broken fingers but never had any diahorrea. So the prospect of facing the 50/60 mph fatties in this English side of yester years would be mouthwatering, even for an average grade 2 cricketer like myself.
gemma harden have a look at this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iaJawRckPwE.html And this 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jrQKE00DxiY.html Compare it with the dibbly dobbly pacers in that English side that zahir hammered.
gemma harden no wonder they never needed helmets in them days, batting against these trundling pie chuckers as Illingworth, underwood, d’oliveria, lever(without leverage) and shuttle worthless(pardon, shuttle worth)
gemma harden hey gemma you are a woman and cricket is not a woman’s game. Maybe you are from an older generation. So check out my generation fast bowlers eg Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad zahid, Glen McGrath, Brett Lee, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and spinners, Shane Warne, Mushtaq Ahmed, Muralitharan and then compare them with the English attack in this so called test match in the subject u tube clip
