I loved this subversion in the second game too, where you've been hearing about this divine figure (the Architect) during the whole game, just find he's nothing more than an old man full of regrets with no power whatsoever. He failed on his quest to become god and had to live with the consequences of his actions, while his other half saw the experiment as a success and became drunk with power.

That is due to the fact that this song is an event track. “Visions of the Future” only interrupts field tracks, which is the category that the usual battle songs belong to.

Zanza killed Shulk's family, stole his body, driven him on a quest that hurt so many, was the cause of *everything* in this game thanks to his unprovoked attack on Mechonis... Yeah, I'd be a little pissed.

Even after Shulk spared his life, Mumkhar still tried to kill them. I would have just let Dunban end him, especially considering he was going to die anyway. The guy was a sociopath.

Despite all the other enemies Shulk had to either put down or talked down, the fight with Dickson hurt him the most. So he is understandably livid about that in particular. If only zanza didn't exist, he wouldn't have had to go through that.

Yeah, counting all three phases Zanza has more than the Avalanche Abaasy. Both of them have the same resistances to Topple locking too. That said, the superbosses are still harder because they're always red level.

This is the nature of J/RPGs though, the final story boss is the weakest end game boss xD Which always bothered me with many games, this was one of them.

I now realise this was because I was in Casual Mode

I beat the game in the best way possible: With the beast.

I also beat it with Buster

Funny, my party was also Shulk, Riki, and Dunban. Riki's debuffs are so helpful for taking out the minions quickly and Dunban is great as an aggro tank to keep damage off of Shulk and Riki.

@Manu Amadi Dude holy shit . . . . . . . I had actually beaten XC2 before playing through XCDE, so as soon as I saw the space station I started freaking out a bit lol. I also thought that them changing Alvis' key necklace to a core crystal in DE was just a cheeky little easter egg, like Malos wielding a Monado. Nah lol it's all connected. Alvis is Ontos, and each of the Trinity Processor's core crystals manifest as a Monado.

This is exactly what happened to me back when I played the Wii version. I loved the music so I was just listening to the ost and I noticed this song was the final boss theme, so I knew Zanza was going to be the final boss. But I never would’ve imagined Dickson turning on you, the High Entia turning into Telethia, etc. this game is phenomenal

I didn’t look up any spoilers before playing this game (I never played the original, as I was too young), and let me tell you, I was THROWN into a ride with this game‘s story. I laughed, I cried, but I mostly said “WHAT IS GOING ON.” I absolutely loved it, and I’m really sad that my first experience with the game is over.😅

I just wished they gave some sort of foreshadowing of Zanza like Shulk meeting him in person or Zanza swinging by to save his ass once. It really felt like Zenza(blonde) came out of nowhere. It was more of a Shit ton of information instead of a "ooohhh shit why didnt i realize it sooner" twist. Those are the best kinds of twists not the "wtf is going on twist"

Zanza is very similar to Yggdrasil/Mithos. This comparison becomes even more apt in Xenoblade 2.

@@MC_Danger_Noodle I think Xenogears is a bit too incomplete to hold up against modern Xeno games (I swear half of that dialogue is placeholder and several story arcs were flayed/cut out entirely due to either running out of time or running out of resources,) but it still has a great deal of heart and brilliance and is more than worthy of respect. It could really use a complete overhaul in many ways, though. I'd love to see an in-depth remake that stays true to the original game's story and whatnot to great extent, but isn't afraid to completely redo some scenes, rewrite almost all the dialogue, and extend at least a good chunk of the "sitting on a chair narrating" segments into actual fleshed-out story arcs. Also, maybe brush away some of those controversial lines that don't make sense/don't need to be there/don't get the actual point across, like "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" and the lines early on that could easily be mistaken for anti-evolution propaganda to the layman's eye. These moments could both garner a great deal of hate for the game and inadvertently lend credibility to certain misinformation campaigns that plague our era. It would be almost impossible to pull off, no doubt requiring as much time and resources as Xenoblade 2, Torna The Golden Country, and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition combined, if not more, _but_ a sufficiently thorough and well-done loyal remake (same characters, same plot and plot twists, etc, but rewritten/expanded upon dialogue, streamlined mechanics, overhauled visuals) of Xenogears could be absolute perfection.

And yes, I do realize Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a loose retelling of Xenogears. I still think a more loyal remake of Xenogears would have potential. I'd still rather see Xenoblade 3 right now, though, but hey, maybe when they've finished all the stories they want to tell in the context of Xenoblade, the old favorites (Xenogears, Xenosaga - haven't played the latter yet tho so don't @ me if it doesn't need the level of reworking that Xenogears does) could get the overhauls they deserve.

Believe it or not, I think his name was kind of a mistranslation. It was supposed to be Xanthe, but I guess translation error happened or something and we got Zanza

@@loganrussell3064 No, it wasn't a mistranslation, the name was intended to be Zanza from the beginning. The name is a reference to the "Alpha and Omega", the beginning and the end, because Zanza thinks he's the true creator of the world (of course he's wrong). This symbology was used previously in Xenogears.

There's further symbolism of this with the fact he wants to keep a perpetual cycle of rebirth and destruction, and this is shown with the Monado 1 and 2 being in the shape of a musical note, as well as his wings and minions having music sheet symbolism, on top of those minions having LITERAL TREBLE CLEFFS for monados. You could say that he wanted to repeat the same song and dance. ----------------------- The theming of names also comes into play with Arglas, where he was the start of Zanza's release, and halfway through the story, he dies, as symbolized by the S being about halfway through the alphabet. This theming comes into further play if you take the note about Arglas dying halfway through with S and realize it was being used to symbolize Shulk becoming the new Zanza Host as soon as Arglas died, with Shulk's name starting with an S.

Zanza stole his theme, and he was like I'm going to "fix it," how _I_ like it. Zanza was imitating the real God all along, and he had to know he was never the one truly in control despite all the power he had. Why else be friends with alvis who was - as far as he knew and was concerned - incapable of betraying him? He had done nothing but help, but alvis proved over and over to be a manipulater and traitor. The lives and affairs of mortals being "beneath" him, Zanza thought he was safe from the same games, but he wasn't. Alvis played the long game, and zanza had no idea until alvis locked the two monado in place to power the third monado, and shulk killed him with it. No, seriously, go back and look; Zanza can't move. the swords shift at an angle against his will. What's great about this is the powers going in matches the other two aegis's that are fighting in the other universe at that moment. Alvis was likely using the conduit to pull some of their residual power from the other side.

NO. as soon as you see it's level it aggroes on you, and never got so scared like when when i aggroed territorial rotbart in xbc2 and saw it's level compared to my measly level 5 or 6. (Xbc2 was my first xeno game). Screaming why such a high level super boss was walking around so soon after pretty minimum story progress, all things considered

The Phantom Well that’s one of the main themes. The power “reserved only for god” actually exists inside of them. They too have the ability to change the world. Alvis/Monado appearing to them embodies this, as he is the closest thing the universe has to a “true god” (he’s modeled after the concept of the Monad from Gnosticism). So if you think about it, they have the power of god and anime on their side

Doesn't top this. I like the "enemies of the world" leitmotif but XC3's soundtrack lacks the energy of XC2 and the memorable melodies from XC1.

It’s good but it doesn’t get amazing until the guitar kicks in on the second phase. That slaps, but zanza the divine is amazing start to end

@@Laenthor I get the opinions on field themes (I love them but I get where people come from) but the battle music is imo the best in the series by a long shot

@@brycecartwright2403 I never got tired of the chain attack theme so that's saying something. Just wish some areas had bops like mor ardain.
