After an issue with the kingpins at about fifty miles, the Zeus Pro has been repaired and is back on the streets. BUT, is it a Pro as it is named? Is it improved over the Zeus OG? And what did happen to those kingpins that you were complaining about?
Watch and see!

Hi. How's your board running now. Are there any issues? Are the brakes strong enough? Thanks

@mrgee918 zero problem at all. Currently 750 miles. Stock belt hasn't snapped. Brakes are plenty strong, will lock up the wheels and slide.

My Zeus Pro had a malfunctioning motor after 3 rides. I'm now pretty confident that it shipped with the belts too tight, this most likely caused too much stress on the motors after a while. This is my first e-skate so I had no frame of reference for belt tension. After some back and forth emails with Ownboard, they are sending me a new motor. Can't wait to get this board back to 100% so I can ride it to work! Other than this (hopefully temporary problem), the board is very fun to ride and mode 1 is very beginner friendly.

I ordered 2 ownboard Zeus pros. One for me and one for my friend. One of the boards never came in. Box was empty. The other board I got had quality issues. Like the belts super tight, and would rub on the cover, two bearings were broken and one of the motor didn’t move until I put a lot of throttle. I would get "motor stall" message every now and then. So right out of the box was bad, I had to fix it up and get it ready and "safe". It worked perfect after that. It’s just all these things lead me to believe there is no good quality control and the shipping problems itself was very frustrating to deal with. The board which came in missing, they blamed it on me that I received it and told them I didn’t. After multiple back and forth with ownboard, I contacted PayPal and PayPal sent me my money back for the board which did not arrive. Very bad experience with Ownboard. I suggest remaining Stateside and buying something American(Hoyt, Kaly) or Canadian(Lacroix) even if it means you’d end up paying a bit more. It’s worth it

Not really going to disagree with you on any of what you said. Unfortunately, the last few boards I have received have had something wrong with them. I agree on the quality control, but again unfortunately that is across all manufacturers right now. Profit over quality. As soon as American manufacturers build a board that is comparable and competitive price-wise...I'm down. I just have not seen it yet. I am all ears and eyes, so please feel free to enlighten if I am missing something. Appreciate the view and comment!

Almost bought one at ESKCON 2022. Might be pulling the trigger at ESKCON 2023. Guess I am going to have to just start up a skateboard company. Gonna force me to do it aren't you?? Hey, when you say it should be in the narrow list of boards - what are the other ones that you would recommend? I am on the look out to enter electric skateboarding so first board ever. Used to skate as a kid. Zeus PRO in terms of stability, speed, range, customer service looks to me as a winner over others. What would you recommend if you were in my shoes? :) Thanks

@esk8ooligan Год назад
Hey Dude...welcome to ESK8ing. If you skated as a kid, this will be a different experience that I think you are going to really enjoy. I'll be glad to give some advice, but I would like to know what kind of skating you plan to do. Mostly street? Mostly street and some off-road? Are you a speed kind of guy? Maybe you prefer to carve? Do you want more speed or longer rides? How tall are you? When you stand as though you are standing on a board, what is the distance between your feet? Finally, do you like to tweak your ride or just pretty much grab the board and ride? There are so many options and just like finding the right pair of shoes for your sport, these boards have a personality of their own that can really fit a rider's desired riding style. Send back some answers, and I'll tell you what I think. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

@@esk8ooligan thanks for getting back to me. Here are my answers : Mostly street, but off-road is plenty around where I live - mix of both (street + gravel) would be fine. Question is what is off-road :) I am safe kinda of guy, but speed is never a bad thing. I snowboard a lot and prefer the carve over speed. I am 6"3 / 192 cm, with longer legs And from the start I would prefer to grab and ride, but once I get into my hobbies I like to tweak things. I stopped snowboarding due to having kids and seasons being shorter and shorter, so skateboarding would restore my passion. I was looking for some kind of hybrid board, and was thinking ordering the zeus pro with all types of wheels for 1700$. Thanks again for taking your time to answer!

If you are looking for carve of these 2 I would recommend going the bamboo route. They deck has flex and is a way more carvey ride. Don't get me wrong the Zeus can carve like a demon but the bamboo deck has a more snowboard feel for sure. Only been skating a couple of months but there's my recommendation for what it's worth.

Call it the "Zeus Plus"...call it the "Zeus Pre-Pro"...whichever you want to call it, that's what I have. About 9 months ago, for a short (1-2 month) period, before Ownboard announced/released the 'Pro', they shipped a number of boards with the reprogrammed ESC (in other words, ESCs worth what would become the 'Pro' programming). As far as I know, that's the only 'Pro' component in my Zeus...although, I will admit, I haven't checked the battery...and, yes, it has been confirmed it's the 'Pro' ESC. After receiving mine, I did the same as you...out went the stock bearings, and in went the Black Mambas (did the same to my Backfire G2 Black about a month after receiving it). Then, about a month later, when Ownboard announced the Zeus Pro, I ordered the 'Pro' baseplates & motor mounts. When I installed the new motor mounts, I initially only installed the motor mount on one side, and posted a photo in the FB Ownboard group, so that others could easily see how much higher (and safer) the motors were, compared to the 'stock' position). So...that's how I came to refer to my Zeus as a "Zeus Plus". It is an OG Zeus...but, it contains the 'Pro' ESC, baseplates, motor mounts, and mounting hardware. As for the battery, I still don't know. Next up (once I'm fully recovered from my knee surgery - medial meniscus tear) will be to replace the stock bushings with the KranK bushings (although, due to me being a little heavier than your are, v I'll probably be doing a 93a/96a mix-up).

@esk8ooligan Год назад
Mend up man! I understand. I have ACL surgery many years ago after a motocross injury. I can relate. Wow, that is fkn dope to hear on the pre-pro board. You still have it? I kind of agree with you on the ESC. But, if I didn't have a Zeus, I'd still recommend going with the Pro. I have emailed Ownboard about the new baseplates. I am still not sold on the quality of the kingpin bolt. I want a few more miles on it before I go jumping off the RU-vid cliff and say something that I don't have enough evidence on. Yep, any one reading this...ditch the stock bearings and bushings. Makes a world of difference. So far, I do like the board, and it will be heavy ridden board in my collection.

@@esk8ooligan Thanks...and, I'm recovering. I've had surgeries, and I've had accidents (three involving motorcycles, and one involving a horse...don't ask about the horse accident, which also involved surgery...lol), so I guess you could say, I'm used to the "recovery process". As for my Zeus, yes, I do still have it...but, I'm also waiting to see how this recovery goes. Hoping I'm still able to ride...but, also preparing to sell both boards, if need be. There's an old saying: "Expect the worst, hope for the best.". That's what I'm doing. At my age (I'll just say, I'm in my 2nd half-century), it might be time to give up 'extreme' activities...that could include my Esk8s & motorcycle, and possibly even my bicycle. But, again, hopefully not. As for the kingpin, something to consider might be a Titanium kingpin. Trampa makes them, as does Acer Racing. In case you haven't heard of Acer Racing before, the company is well known among RC vehicle racers. Acer bearings (especially their ceramic & hybrid bearings) are considered among the best. And, as chance has it, they also make some hardware for skateboards & Esk8s. Check out what they have here: www.acerracing.com/pages/search-results-page?q=Skateboard

@@robbryan3044 Damn man...now you have me wanting to ask about a horse. If you do decide to sell the original original Zeus, keep me in mind. Trust me, I get your statement about the second half as I probably understand it more that people realize, but my brain has not caught up with the body in the fact that maybe I shouldn't do that extreme thing. Not sure when I will give it up. I still love to snowboard, that is my winder ESK8ing. GREAT info on the kingpin and Acer Racing...thank you for sharing that. I have it recorded for followup. @@esk8ooligan The horse can't tell (unfortunately, it had to be put down)...but, that was almost 40 years ago. As for the boards, and if I decide (ie. 'need') to sell them, will do. @robbryan3044
@robbryan3044 Год назад
@@esk8ooligan You said to let you know if I decide to sell the board. Well, after more recovery time, and realizing the problems the knee still has...and, in all probability, will continue to have...it's looking like, no sooner had I returned to boarding, I'll have to give it up permanently. Worst of all, I never even got to ride the Zeus. My first Esk8 was the Backfire G2 Black 2020 Edition, which I had purchased to give me 'mobility' while driving nurses did FEMA (you can't exactly park a motorcoach "just anywhere"). I was enjoying it so much, that's when I decided to order "something at least slightly faster, but, more importantly, with a much longer range". Research led me to three finalists, of which the Zeus was the winner. While waiting for the Zeus, I heard about the Black Mambas bearings, and ordered 3 sets (one for the G2, one for the Zeus, and a third as a 'backup'). The Zeus was delivered while I was working out of town (also driving nurses for FEMA, but living out of a hotel approx 250 miles from home), and, by the time I got home, the Zeus Pro had been announced, asking with the Pro trucks, and other hardware. So, what did I do? Before I had even ridden the Zeus, I ordered the Pro plates, motor mounts, & mounting hardware, and I waited for their arrival. Unfortunately, by the time they package arrived, the knee injury had occurred, and I was, once again, forced to wait before getting to ride the Zeus. Now that the surgery had been completed, and I'm mostly 'recovered', as much as one side of my brain wants to ride, the other side...the 'logical' side...knows that's "a bad idea", and could lead to a far worse knee problem. Not only will I be selling the never-ridden-Zeus (honestly, I'd like to ride it once, even if at only a 'slow' speed, and for only a short distance, just to experience it)...but, I will also be seeking the Backfire G2, and probably my Giant bicycle (the only bike I'll be able to ride from now on is my motorcycle...I hope...and, that's ONLY if I can get my leg over the bike). If you're truly interested in my "pre-Pro" Zeus (and, possibly, the Backfire G2), I'll need a way of contacting you (as I don't see an email address listed within your RU-vid channel's "About" section. Alternately, if you have Facebook, I am there, as well...just search my name on FB, and shoot a message through Messenger...while there are others on FB with the same name, I'm the only one who's avatar/image is of a person (me) riding a motorcycle.
