Is there a way to increase the output volume? When I record, I get nice levels, with everything in the 50-85% range, and I can hear a great recording in the headset, but.... When I bring the file into Audacity, it comes in as a tiny thin line, that I need to Amplify 17-22x to see a sound wave pattern. This also increases hiss.

Hi. I'm having a hard time getting the H5 to be recognized as in a line in audio interface on my PC. This works perfectly fine on a Mac. On the PC every time its connected it shows up as a microphone no matter what I do. This is not what I want though as the inputs to the H5 are actually line inputs (from a mixer) and not microphones. Is there something that I'm missing?

Hello. How’s it going? I’ve just bought a second hand Drum Machine and little synthesiser and been messing around with them throughout lock down. I run them through a little mixer. If I purchase a H5, would I simply go via an rca to mini Jack. Go from the rca output on mixer, to the line in on the h5 via mini Jack. Is it that simple? If anyone could let me know that would be really helpful. There’s a pawn shop near me with a h5 for sale, so I’ll grab it if it will suffice for what I mention above. I’ll also use it for recording out and about as well. Cheers x

Is it possible to connect the Zoom H5 to a MacBook Pro to use it as microphone for Skype calls? If so, do you need any additional wires or adapters for this? Another question is, I noticed the XYH-5 has 90 degrees only and the XYH-6 has 90 and 120 degrees. Which amount of degrees is optimal for recording the following instruments: (alto) saxophone, trumpet/flugelhorn and (electric) guitar. Does the Zoom H5 offer playback from 50% to 150% without deforming the sound, just like the Zoom H6? What are all the advantages of the Zoom H6 over the Zoom H5?
8 лет назад
First, yes it's possible with the driver for Mac that you will find on Zoom's website. The H5 is acting as an USB audio-interface and you're not using the ADC in your Mac so improved sound quality. You can always use the line-out jack of the H5 and the mic input of your Mac but there's 2 level to adjust: Mic knob gain on the device and the gain of the mic port. Second, it depends of the distance between them. If you want to be close, it's sure that 120° is better because the sound is louder. I never use the mic capsule included with the H5 for music recording because I have Audio-Technica/Shure/Schoeps mic. Third: the main advantage of the H6 is the ability to have 4 xlr input (up to 6 with the Zoom EXH-6 adapter). Also, you have physics button for the -20 db pad on the H6 that are in the menu interface on the H5. Preamps are the same in the H6 and the H5 so they're no difference in audio quality. Sorry if my english isn't perfect; french is my primary language ;)

Does the H5 have stereo input? Lets say I want to connect two lav microphones with an Y adapter. So I have two mics but only get one 3.5 mm jack connector. Can I use those two lav mics to record left and right, instead of using the left and right mics on top of the recorder. I want these two lav mics to be separated from each other onto an object, like a head.
@ZoomSoundLab

The 3.5mm input on the XYH-5 mic capsule is a stereo unbalanced TRS input. We would recommend using two TS unbalanced lavalier microphones.

My H5 recently is producing high tone noise when turned on with the XY5 capsule even if my gain is at "0" and goes louder as I adjust it, I also get this noise with external microphones installed in the XY5 capsule. It's kind of whining tone that is superimposed on the BG noise when you turn the gain from "0" up. It also indicates a bar in the L/R meter as you hear the high pitched tone even when the gain is still at "0". I tried to fully reset it but it's still the same when I turn it on. It does not produce this kind of noise with just the line 1 and 2 XLR inputs. My H5 firmware is V2.10. Any inputs or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Is the -20dB pad applicable to the line input, and is it pre-ADC? I have the zoom H2n and the line input is somewhat useless for recording from non-consumer mixers without extra attenuation...
8 лет назад
The -20db is only applicable to the 1/2 input and I'm pretty sure it's pre because if it was after the analog to digital conversion and there's a very loud signal, it will distortion in the converter and the pad will just lower the gain.
@0en0ne
@0en0ne 8 лет назад
I agree pre is the only thing that makes sense :) but on the h2n they have a post-ADC gain control, which is therefore useless for dampening hot inputs...
8 лет назад
Yes it is only to adjust different level source together... The H2N isn't design that much for line input recording due to its form-factor.

I have a question using the H5 with a Canon 5D Mark IV. I’ve connected a Sennheiser shotgun mic and a Sennheiser wireless lavaliere mic to the XLR 1 and XLR 2 inputs on the H5. I’m using the LINE OUT on the H5 to connect to the Mic input on the Canon 5D. Both the Shotgun Mic (XLR1) and the Lav (XLR 2) are recording onto the LEFT channel on the Canon 5D video file. Is there any way to get XLR 1 to record on the LEFT channel of the Canon and and XLR 2 to record on the RIGHT channel of the Cannon? That is - can one input record on one channel and the other input record on the other channel?

Hello ZoomLab! I bought a Zoom H5, but I have a problem everyone seems to share.When you listen into the headphones,While you recording, or simply listening, H5 makes an electronic noise, like an interference, like a cheap device that makes noises when runs out of batteries, that it is not present on the recording itself. It is strange, because it seems like everyone has this problem.I found a video about this problem here on youtube.I use the gain level on 5, because after 5, the preamp noise becomes pretty loud/hissy and not usable at all.Can you help me resolve this situation? I have been asked by a good friend to capture sound from a 5 participant discussion the building where it will take place is ultra modern and has a small 8"x12" panel at the back of the room (room size 50 mtrs x 15 mtrs) On the panel, there is an XLR input that I was told was used for patching into. I am unsure what cable I need to use, should it be a 1/4 inch Balanced Jack to 2x Mono XLR Splitter Lead or does it need something completely different? You are connecting the output of the H6 to an XLR input? You will need a 3.5mm TRS to 2x XLR male y-split cable. This is not very common since XLR is typically use for balanced audio. If you are doing the opposite, you will just need a male-to-female XLR cable.

I'm thinking of buying an H5 or an H6 and I'm mainly going to use INPUT 1/2 to record stereo signal from DJ mixers. I'm afraid that recorded stereo tracks may not perfectly centered because level of INPUT 1/2 is controlled separately and the dial seems to be continuous one, which may cause either channel to be slightly louder than the other. Is there any way that left/right balance of the recorded track is perfect? (position of the two level adjustment dials are the same?) I have to adjust input level on the recorder a lot since I play on different venues where I see gain setting of the mixers are very different from one to another, and more importantly I cannot control output level of the DJ mixers. Thus if I should take extra care to set position of the two knobs equally on my every DJ session, it would be very frustrating. Thank you.

I wanted to purchase the EXH-6 capsule for my H5, but when I tried it in the store it didn't work. I plugged an SM57 into it and there was no signal whatsoever. The pad was off, the input level was at 10 and still nothing. Any help?

I get hiss when I plug in an external mic into either channel of the Zoom H5. It’s a Sennheiser mic. When I plug it into my Yamaha sound board using the same cable the his goes away. So, it’s not the mic or the cable. Where is the hiss coming from?

@@ZoomSoundLab We did and they refused to help anything related to the interface function on the Zoom H5. This is a shame and will result in BBB claims and negative reviews about the brand.

Go to MENU > REC MODE > Select STEREO FILE. Mono Mix is not available in MULTI FILE mode. This is not related to the firmware update.

i did not get what exactly "In 1/2 mono mix" does... can somebody help?
@ZoomSoundLab

It will sum inputs 1 and 2 into a stereo mix. So you will have the same audio on input 1 and input 2.
