Thanks for this Breakout Rooms explanation. These rooms seem like such a good thing, but I have never been clear on how to use them. One question. Is it possible to give one room question prompts for a text, and the other room the text for those questions. A sort of pair practice between rooms?

I think it's possible but tricky. Send each group a file with the questions and prompts. Let them practice, then bring them back and make new breakout rooms for partners to practice together. Good idea but you'll have to organize them well. 😄👍

You are a great teacher, thank you so much. I will use breakout room my next lesson. I am so excited to implement it, by the way I am a student-teacher. I love your videos, they are fruitful and practical. I am going to explain how to ask and give advice, decline an advice. I will Google power point because they are interactive and I will use both Google docs and breakout room? What do you think about this? Can you give me some tips?

Hello! Excuse me, is there a way in which I can share my screen in the main room and they all see it while they're in the break out rooms? It would be useful like for example show them different pictures every 2 minutes let's say which they will be describing with their partner in the break out room. I appreciate your videos, they help us teachers who want to improve and look for new ways to make our students learn.

Eric, with the .png file the 2 students were working on inside the breakout room, I'm interested to know which app or software they opened the file with or was it the default Zoom whiteboard? If it was the whiteboard, could the questions have been edited or erased, using the text box or an eraser function on the whiteboard toolbar?

Hi Charlie, it was just a png file so the initial questions stay on it. Once they use annotate they can add answers on to it. I should've shown it from their side to explain. ^^

Okay, so once the Zoom's whiteboard was saved as an image any changes became uneditable in Zoom. Got it, thanks.

In a breakout room can you give students access to a whiteboard?

@@charleswedwards Yes. They have the option to open their own. But they can't use the original one you made in the main meeting. I'll mess around to make sure about using the whiteboard in different rooms to make sure. 👍

No, available for free too. Actually, they just made an update to Breakout rooms and I'll make a video of that soon! 😄

This is great, re watching your videos I'm still stuck online. Also any tips about google meet my PON school refuses to use zoom. It is awful, can only see 5 students ina class of 20 and when I share they can't see me or each other. No annotate, it's the worst 😒

It must be difficult without those tools. It would be useful but now you're forced to try other techniques. Whatever you do, try to get the students to practice what they've learned with each other and you. 😊

@@etacude Another thing that does not exist break out rooms. I've been sharing my zoom screen so I can annotate but so many steps just to do this. One massive thing that helps the students practice the grammar is pair work. But Google meets nope can't have that. It's so frustrating as they are starters and movers exam prep classes. 2 hour and 3 hour classes. 3 hours full on all time as I can't grab a break from throwing them in a break off room. Ugh it's what it is. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

It was my first day I practiced my teaching skills today, but something didn't go well. They were reluctant, they didn't give any answer. I guess they were very sleepy BCS the lesson began 8.30, so this make me devastated. I was nervous, and I didn't know what to do. Do you have any advices for silent student? They don't have to open their cameras, so they prefer not to open their cameras. That's why I cannot be sure if they follow the lesson or not. And also when I pick a name for asking question he or she doesn't answer, I cannot even hear a voice:(( this is killing me.

When class starts you've got to warn them. If they want to do online classes with video off, they better start answering. When students enter class ask them questions to check their audio. Take rollcall and ask them questions. Lecture them about learning English ~ your class is a speaking class so they better take part. Let their parents know that they have to participate by speaking, otherwise they will never improve. If they don't have confidence ask them easy questions at the start to build their confidence.
