There was a Man who played Bass from The Great State of Texas who was Badder than Shaft, Superfly, Kung Fu and James Bond all rolled together....RIP, Dusty Hill......
exactly replacing the bass playing will be possible but there's no way they'll be able to replace Dustys' solid homegrown Texas pipes AND now that he's passed on to the spirit world they've become more powerful. RIP Dusty!
this album aint no fuckin joke, some serious sweat blood and balls went into this album,i was fortunate enough to grow up on ZZ and still listenin to 'em to the day
Great song. Wonder what he sings about.. A drug dealer? Is it me , or do I hear a Hammond or keyboard backing the rhythm parts during Billy’s guitarsolo’s..?
@@spunnek75 I think it's a rhythm guitar, perhaps an acoustic one, played at a high position on the fretboard. You can hear similar tricks on the next album Degüello.
I've spent decades thinking Billy Gibbons (with Robin Trower and David Gilmour) is a criminally underrated rock guitarist. His tight, gritty playing just pops out from every song. Sue me, but I find his guitar more interesting than most of Clapton's bland playing.
dude listen to those 2 false harmonic notes he plays right before 2:28 he fuckin jams, he also taught hendrix slide, get you a cd on 70s top and go for a long drive , feels good
He came at the good era. few people could play like him with such a pretty face, in Europa. And nobody gave a shit to the 3 Kings, Buddy Guy & a bunch of great singer & guitarists, especially in Texas. Remember he became the slow hand god in the '60. Jimi H. stopped him once, but you know what happened. But what would have happen if these 3 have landed in England in 1963?
In 1976 that guitar intro blew my 15 year old mind. It was the first time I remember thinking..”How on earth does he do that?...It must be a tube amp.”
Oh my god, I forgot about this song...Those guys rocked hard back in the day. Best thing is, they've still got the mojo burnin'. I'd pay good money to see them play again, and especially if they played some of this old Tejas stuff. Billy Gibbons picks the coolest notes when he plays. He's one-of-a-kind, that's for sure.
I saw these guys last night here at the Houston Rodeo.... MY GOD they are still awesome!!! They never play this raw anymore but last night was pretty GD close!!!! I was introduced to them by my older brother and thank him every chance I get!!
Just. Better. Like almost everything else in the 70's...Can't figure out why young people now seem to think the 80's was the greatest era of rock. It. Wasn't. Not even close--hell, today's music might even be better!
Thanks for the upload. I heard this song so often in my car. I'm still loving it. The photos (part of them without the beards ;-) are real fun, too. The guitar riffs are still great.
Whoo-hoo and a FINE Texas hello to you!!! I'm so happy that the masterpiece (Tejas) is finally being appreciated by people like you, 2010Joe54, that take the time to share what I consider the greatest music of ALL-TIME!!! God bless you and z z top
This is without a doubt the most original of ZZ Top's albums and I think the best. They never made another album that sounded even remotely like this slab of , crispy, Texas country, rock.... Wouldn't it be great, to be able to get the original mix of this album on cd? My mother has the vinyl.... it sounds far superior to the remix version.
+semitar6 great album, love all there albums, you're right they never made another quite like this one, I think El Loco was close though, quirky, really love Deguello too, damn without a doubt one of the funkiest groovy bands ever
Yes, in fact this The Slab of, Crispy Texas country rock is the Ultimate. I saw the Tejas tour stop in Cincinnati , Oh in '77. Uh, that would have made me less crispy at 16 years old. Well stated. - Gringo Gregorio.
Great stuff, I don't understand why the musical critics don't consider this album very good....for me it is, perhaps beacuse it was the first I bought of ZZ TOP........ Billy Gibbons shines here.....
Same from me Joe, this is the shit. :)) Appreciate all the older ZZTop footage, especially. Great pics here + I "think" u have the 1976, Largo, Maryland "Chevrolet" vid up. GREAT Tour, only footage of that Tour I've seen posted other than The Summit in Houston, Dec.31,77. New Year 78. So far. Thanks....Great memories, my Friend.
thanks TEXAS for the best band ever..ZZ TOP WE BE ROKIN, 4 EVER HOPE DUSTY RECOVERS SOON I HAD A REBUILT SHOULDER, BOLT 6 EYEHOOKS TO MAKE ME NEW TENDONS, ROUGH BUT THESE TEXAS BOYZ CAN HANDLE ANYTHING. CANT WAIT TO C AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. GRANDSONS REALLY DIGEM
@pottery1182 - This is from my cassette, like you said, the original. Download 'free you tube to MP3 converter' follow the instructions & this track can be yours. Glad you like it.
Yes Sir!!! Saw 'em 4 times between 75 & 81!! Best live band to this day, I've ever watched. In that era, including Lynyrd Skynrd ( who opened 4 them once in 76 I think) they couldn't be touched. Two 1/2 -3 hr. shows, numerous encores, Billy... wild as a buck!! Ha! Plenty of "fuel" I'm sure, at times, but NEVER interfered with a performance. Still love 'em but guess it's like my parents & Elvis. They remembered & wanted to see the 56 version. Not 74-77 version. Thankfully, ZZTOP STILL ROCK!!!
zztop tejas album one of the most under appreciated album by band in the rock hall of fame its as they don't think much of it stopped performing of the songs in concert a long time ago the last time they did anything from it was 1980 on the deguello tour ah deguello also a very good album
Ten Dollar Man may feature Billy Gibbons best guitar work anywhere thats not on Tres Hombres. This whole song is magical.Gibbons immense,Hill sings his balls off AND LISTEN TO THE DRUMS!!
@texasmusic I saw them in Austin( inside sleeve of Fandango) and I remember 1 yr in Houston they had buzzards, longhorn and I think some snakes. It was one of their first Thanksgiving shows they used to do there. I remember $10 cans and $100 lb which was more like 20 oz....
Have to agree. Hard to pick 1....4 me. This 1 personifies them, in their prime. Iommi may be the "Riffmaster", but Billy has always had a DISTINCT, INSTANTLY IDENTIFIABLE tastefully distorted (usually) riff on EVERY Album. Check out "Dusted" off "Mescelaro" (not 1 of their greatest, admittedly) If u haven't already, Friend. :). Agree with ya on Dusty's vocals too. Love this Band. :D
gotta be some the very very VERY best of American popular music?? Wasnt there a copyright issue with this album/.. was banned from radio play for a contract dispute or something like that? hats off to engineer as well. Thank you for posting..was a favourite for a long time and it was absent from youtube.
god frank beard rocks! Why in the fuck did they use drum machines in the 80's?!frank beard is a classic drummer.the only thing i can think of he was down and out because of drugs during the eliminator album or something like that.but still why the drum machines?!
What is the chance of you taking your cassette tape of Rio Grande Mud and putting up It Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell. When they remastered they cut out the best part of the lead in that song.
