Man what an underrated channel and I like you also put links on the description. I'm thankful RU-vid recommend me your video about an easy fps game engine
While I don't think that Unreal is all that difficult to use, the licensing does give me pause, and it is a particularly bloated engine that requires a bit more heft to run well. So this actually sounds like a really good option for those that don't want to get into programming but still have an idea they want to see brought to fruition and it's *much* lighter on system resources. This is actually the path I tend to recommend for people because not everyone is up to the task of learning how to program and even people with no experience can make a great game. You also mentioned GZDoom and it's a great choice as well. I'd also like to reiterate what you briefly touched on, that this can be used for more than just FPS's. If someone has an RPG in mind, maybe something with an isometric viewpoint, you can still use this engine, and GZDoom as well, to make such a game. If you've got an idea, just go for it.
Not as beginner friendly but making games with gz doom is an option. there all ready are some pretty good games on steam, its great if you know you want to make a retro shooter but want to customize it. you cant use doom assets but there is a wad pack thats replaced all the copy righted material with royalty free ones you can use as a base and modify.
the maps in this do look a bit basic, but i do think it would be cool if they let you import maps from Quake map editors like trenchbroom. theres a Godot addon that lets you do that for your Godot games, so i dont imagine its really super hard to integrate the map editor for other games and engines.
As much as I'm devastated of the dead state that id left Quake Champions in, I'm so glad that QC:DE is such a bonkers mod game. To everyone who worked at it, thank you so much! It's more fun than lots of modern shooters for comparison.
well.. this is interesting... I started playing Quake Champions at 2016 and stopped like ~1-2 years ... well after that i rage quit due to my main (Anarky) being good but on the wrong hands ... was fun and wierd to be honest... most of matches to me was FUN! but to others usually it wasnt... sadly due to much negativity towards ME, I rage quited... while i couldn't see my mistakes i never argued and always apolagized and thanked many of them for helping me but I wasn't pro or anything...
This Engine reminds me of an older specialized engine from 2007 called "Raycasting Game Maker", and an Android app by SilentWorks "FPS Maker". Maybe this engine might be the best of both worlds?
This is very interesting. I was always wondering if there was an FPS equivalent to RPGmaker, and this just might be it. Doom and Wolfenstein always had the perfect foundation for a simple fps engine the same way older Dragonquest and Final Fantasy served for RPGmaker.
efpse is pretty cool but it misses so many features! Seriously, it makes no sense that gzdoom, supposed to just be a doom source port has more features than efpse.
HELLL YESSSSSSSSS love this engine SO dam much ♥ i think it'll be a pretty big name engine within the next 5 or so years, especially now that development has picked back up on it. crazy to think that eFPSe kinda started as an unofficial sequel to the RGM engine. (Raycasting game maker) anyway, thanks for helpin' bring more awareness to this engine! ♥♥♥ great video!
For any category X, you'll always hear, 'Python is terrible for X.' Yet, you’ll find projects where Python performs X better than you ever imagined. People undermine it because they don't get its philosophy: simple is better than complex. That's why, despite the apparent hate, it's actually a reflection of its success. If performance is an issue, just write the boilerplate and hard logic in C, compile it to a nice .pyd, and get back to your work. Simple, right? p.s:Amazing video, very detailed! got confused with the difference in content with the rest of your videos lol
Quake 1 I still consider a action horror game. With today’s graphics, it’ll be terrifying. But I agree, it sucks quake isn’t getting the same treatment as of yet. Wolfenstien they ruined for me. Wolfenstien New Order was good, the second one was meh, and that spin off was terrible with playing the daughters. The only real good Wolfenstien game was Old Blood.
I’m a fan of Python and so is John Carmack. These days I’d rather crack out a fun game with less code in less time, with some performance penalty, than use something lower level like c++. And I’ve been making console games in C/C++ for decades. I don’t think I would use either of these 2 engines; I would write my own bindings over a base engine in C++ and do all the high-level logic in Python. Or just use Godot; it’s near enough to Python for me.
Older Doom and Quake games were for hardcore fps players. Newer games like doom 2016 and Eternal and to some extend Quake Champions are like those rpg where you just become better than others by learning the subtleties and the overcomplex mechanic, with little or no talent involved. I am putting here quake champions because by adding different characters with different runspeed you kill even more time to adjust your movement and strategies to all those different and multiplied mechanics, which is actually a waste of time. Like some friend told me: ambition is the weapon of the stupid. Rapha is still winning in quake champions 30% thanks to the game retaining movement, timing and positioning from older quake games which give him a good advantage and 70% thanks to the fact that he is a timing machine and QC is even more inclined towards timing by adding ability items which also have to be timed. But anyway QC is worst than his deathmatch predecessors. Pros moved to QC because they got bored with playing the same Q3 based mechanic for 15 years and the money went to QC.
Blitz3D is where it all started for me. Now I’m a professional .NET developer working in the medical sector. Bit of a departure from game development lol, but Blitz3D will always be my first encounter with programming
There's Quake Champions - Quake 3 edition as well that's worth trying out. It's called "Quake 3 Bloodrun Mod" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VeSlUHzSEKw.html
Yes, there is an official add-on that basically add ut2004 weapons (with all the secondary fires. You can do the asmd combo ;) ) and movements. + You get the dispersion pistol from unreal in solo/coop :D
