Ahh man i wrote a long comment and was engaged and ended up somehow losing the message before i sent it😂. Anyways comment 2. Yes i agree i am seeing this so often and paying attention for allot of people is becoming harder. I am noticing people totally consumed by a mobile. I am trying myself not to be consumed either. While i am working i leave the mobile in the vehicle and when im home im leaving it while im getting things done like cooking, family time and so on. When im doing things outdoors like hiking or foraging i will take my mobile to do tasks to take photos, but this is usually for like identification edibles or for my content creation or learning another skill but for me its more a source of knowledge and i am starting to limit what im consuming to not be consumed by what you where saying junk. Always enjoy engaging in your wisdom. Thanks for sharing. OSsss

My friend, way to go being conscious about your tech. Those devices can devour our awareness so easily! Leaving it in the vehicle is great -- you're treating it like a tool, instead of an every-moment necessity. In my book, that's how our tech should be =)

Beautifully said! Being "present" or "in the moment" or "engaged" is so important and can be so difficult to do at times. It takes practice. Some cultures train their children in this skill. I am so glad that you are providing opportunities for the children to practice engagement out of doors. Nature is a great teacher of how to be present and engaged. Example: I struggle with sitting meditation indoors (a goldfish is probably better at it than me!) but when outside, I have no trouble listening to the birds and being present with them for long periods of time.

Agreed! Nature can just sweep us in to a state of awareness and engagement (at least some of us!) -- such a diversity of sounds, sights, smells, and textures that surround us.

One way to think about it is this. When we are engaged, we look a certain way, quite alive, more beautiful even. When we are mindless and disengaged, we sort of slump over and our faces go “bleauh” and develop a kind of atmosphere of vacuity about us. Whoever there is who is looking around-whether it be another person, a beetle, a red-eyed vireo-then how do we want to be seen? By the way I’m reading the book Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram-are you familiar with Abram’s work? It’s so interesting and has plenty of messages and analyses that ring true with me and my experiences, on both the “wild” end and the civilized. In a way there is a very deep message about rewilding and the ways we have begun to think-of the connection of story, language, and land, of the separation of space and time, speech and gesture…
@ReWildUniversity
@ReWildUniversity 3 дня назад
Yes! Loved Spell of the Sensuous! And I remember reading an old book about Zen that said the Zen masters could just look at someone and see their level of awakedness. What you say definitely seems true -- and I love that you say we look "beautiful", because that's often how I think of it -- that engagement truly is beautiful, and when you see it in someone's eyes . . . wow!!!!

Hi Kenton I might have missed it, but the word I waited for you to use and didn't, is "Contrast". It's contrast that really shows us things in our increasingly standardized and 'normalized' world views. Contrast is that sense of difference in the way junk vs healthy foods make us feel. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed your vide! Just seemed to me a glaring lack of expression in leaving that one word out. One more point: Electronic entertainment, especially TV/video games, put out certain subliminal signals and frequencies that basically 'shove' the mind into an Alpha state. Experiments have shown most people cannot remain in full beta awareness for more than a few minutes after tuning into TV/video. This is no accident. Alpha mind is 25 TIMES more suggestible than Beta. Which state do YOU think advertisers and those promoting overall social control want the general public to be in?? So if anything is going to save us, it's those things in our lives that give us a much needed dose of contrast. Sincerely, John, Ana, and Little Forest
@ReWildUniversity

I love it! Yes, contrast can be difficult to come by when there is a "standard" that we're always imbibing -- and without contrast, the standard is all we know.

your own attention is easy to measure. read a book. realize that you were driving forward without profond comprehension, then rewind, read the same paragraph as many times as needed until you do understand. or maybe you need a break, stand up, move. the neighbor's attention is easy to measure. repeat the same prepared memorized monologue and their eyes will move different when they stop listening. usually when they want to reply they stop hearing because they want to speak.if you fail to deliver the entire monologue they don't respect you and they lack concentration. reading el quijote cures that twitter "too long to read" nowadays hurry limited characters. we have internet, television platforms with amazing well produced audiovisuals and we cannot accept the boring lifestyle of, say, my grandgrandparents in the village. but i am not spielberg either. i am boring. i am 46. i watched boring tv in the 80's and 90's, and school was boring. since i have this background i do i can accept the boredom of a normal person. not everyone is a fashion streamer. we are 8 billion boring people and a very low % of celebrities, actors. we all need to talk and be listened, even if we are not the celebrities my neighbors are maginitzed to instead of talking to me. they cannot offer me quality neither, they are not as great as the influencers they consume. i went to the capital, barcelona last week , i go there once a year. without telephone. i let it in my city. i took the train. everybody on telephone. i went to the metting at a restaurant, some sort of bilderber reunion, it was the meeting of mensa (high IQ club) they were also on their telephones every now and then instead of paying attention to the round table of supposed to be the wisest in the area. i gave tips, i demostrated why i am a genius. they just don't. they seemed regular people, bad average people i shouldn't hang out with. probably the iq tests are made up. i am inventor, i can spot who lacks my spanish culture, a proper way to reply when something has been said. i witnessed no education whatsoever. last time i went to a mensa meeting was 8 years ago. i talked about air purifier to avoid cancer, the importance of knowing all chords and scales if you were a musician, why taking hundred antiaging supplements, why having a home gym, why my piano has better shape, why you gotta learn nutrition. basically i was the only one providing tips and technology for a better future. i think they are impostors fooling themselves and cheaters. i know myself. if you tell me your name, i need to ask seven times again until i memorize, same with the words of the dictionary that i want to learn. know that i must read this spanish dictionary 7 times until i memorize it. if my father recited it loud when i was a newborn i would know all the words, but as adult it takes forever learning anything.

I read purple avens/water avens could be made to taste like chocolate in my library, in the same book which says Linden can be made to taste of chocolate if you mix the seeds and flowers. Linden is not true. I saw a woman toast Linden it the oven and say it tasted of cholate, I did try exactly what she said and did not agree. If it was ever true, it is lost art. At best it tastes close to a coffee with the toasting. I ordered water avens seeds and tried to grow it back in 2015 and it did not germinate. Just yesterday when weeding my garden I found an unfamiliar plant with spikes, not field garlic, and it turned out to be white avens. Good things come to those who wait. Not all good things, but maybe just enough.

There is only one answer to a first knife. MORA knife with fingerguard! It's a swedish brand and one of the best options regarding price/quality ratio. Not that a giant knife isn't badass but often it's not the most practical option.

It's a good answer and there are many knife options out there but I could talk knives for days haha! "Giant" knives do have their place in forests for sure and there are some tips about using them I didn't go into for the video. I myself prefer a large/small knife combo (leuku/puukko). Kenton's knife is a WTG Bear Claw and I'm carrying a Fox Knives Sherpa and a TOPS Tom Brown scout in case you were curious.

YT scrambled my comment, again, this guy brings excellent points. I learned all this with the scouts at about ten years of age. Was going to hand over my knife, handcrafted and looks like crap, to my nephew only to learn that scouts these days don't teach bushcrafting and wilderness skills. Alot of my recent comments has mysteriously vanished, I haven't deserted you yet. 😂 When are we going to see the new forest monks?

Sadly a lot of basics aren't taught these days. I sometimes think "basics" is misunderstood as "intuitive" and that just isn't the case. I think for anyone looking to get into anything they should always begin with the basics whether they think they know them or not. 🙂 Love a good handcrafted knife, I have one my uncle made and it's a cherished addition to my collection!
@richardbonner2354

Kenton, Daniel, "Back to" or "to The Basics" is always a great place to re-sort to. Thank You Both. As for the "finer things", well, You illustrate many o' them too in this Lively discussion, Gen'leMen. Like: "stainless steele isn't", anymore than "friendly fire" is friendly at all, and "depleted uranium" isn't non-radio-active. When You Daniel brought up the fatal triangle and other basic vulnerabilities to grave injuries... I was reminded of basic first aid foundational knowledge, such as: If I needed to imobilize a broken arm and didn' have a ready-made, "hospital-grade" splint..., what could be improvised? A wooden board, a folded piece of cardboard or a rolled up newspaper.... (wait. Are there any newspapers out there anymore?) In the same way, It's good to 'pre-imagine' what remedy is available for arterial bleeding. A temporarily dis-assembled piece o' that rope tree-ladder, a strong swath of a t-shirt, or the chin-strap on an Aussie's hat could keep a terrible mis-adventure from bein' One's last. On a less dangerous part of the spectrum of "cuts"..., Spider-web -- there's usually some handy in the woods and at Home -- helps to stop 'minor' cuts from bleeding too badly by helping Our blood to coagulate better. Thanks again! Hope to see You in the Wood sometime. 🙂 Rick Bonner Pennsyltuck
@danielhill7149
@danielhill7149 12 дней назад
I do agree that basic first aid is an important part of the journey! I'm also a firm believer in prevention over a cure, injuries do happen but Knowing how to prevent self-inflicted injuries is paramount. I've never heard that about spider webs and will certainly do some research into it, thank you for that!
@richardbonner2354
@richardbonner2354 9 дней назад
"A milligram of Prevention is worth a kilogram of Remedy." That is to say that, in my opinion, prevention is aroun' 200 times more effectual than a cure..., presuming that there IS a cure. Sometimes -- for some o' the 'stupid' things I've done -- there wasn't any un-doing of what I'd done. In "the West" We're told that an ounce o' prevention is equivalent to a pound of cure. I suppose that western adage doesn't do prevention the Justice that it actually warrants. Like You, I prefer forethought, pre-caution. 'Cause it hurts a whole lot less. 🙂 Rick

Smart well trained L.E.O.'s stop chasing someone as soon as they lose sight of them.. Too easy to be ambushed otherwise.... Professionals in pursuit use their advantages of radios, backup, coordination, & air support/drones and they throw up a solid perimeter & then they take their time using dogs to ferret out the person they're chasing.... The only way to avoid capture is if someone can get past the perimeter fast enough... Stopping & hiding can occasionally defeat FLIR's under the right conditions, but it doesn't work if they're using dogs...

Most important rule: Remain calm. When you panic you can't help yourself and the clock is ticking! Weight distribution is everything. Crawling on the belly is the best even it is slow, on arms and knees once you got to thicker ice is still better in distribution before getting on both feet if you are really far enough away from the hole. It's great to get away from home base now and then, and give some new perspective on the places you see each and every day. Both kinds of eclipses are cool, and the blood moons when they happen. Glad you guys got to take the trip. I know of a guy from MD that drove all the way out to see it. He had a great time. We had near total here, so I was here for it. I don't think you'd ever ever catch me driving any kind of self-driving car, even aside the not desiring to trust a computer with that thing. I like doing the driving, especially those trips across the country. Don't worry though, I don't tend to drive any faster than a 🐉 can fly, but I might refrain from telling you how fast that is. >>:=p The Queen of Gasoline is a feisty gal! 🤣🤣 Being present in moments is something I struggle with, but I try to find things to focus on which are (or can be) memorable, even if they may seem insignificant to someone else.

The Art of Concealment. Shape, shine, shadow, silhouette, sound, smell, smoke.Camouflage, no jewellery, no shadows, don't walk on the skyline, no sound, be careful with food, deodorant or soap, no fires just hard tac food. The Selous Scouts always used juicy fruit sweets, soap and Coke Cola to find out if guerrillas had been in the area as smell lingers in the still air. Tracker dogs never lose your scent you just confuse the dog handler into thinking he has. This is achieved by moving in a hap hazard motion circles, zig zags etc and through streams and rivers, eventually he will pull the dog off the scent. Good video.
