Iv started using oils on fdm prints for tanks and stuff. You would think a wash would be a no no cause it would fill in the layer lines making them seem worse, but with oils I can just take a brush damp with sprite and clean it out of the spots I don't want
Hello, at 6:30 you appear to be using a wet palette as the paint appears to be sitting on a thin filament of water. Yet the several wet palettes I own do not allow water to seep through the paper to the paint. What kind of wet palette is that? I personally own a RedGrass palette and an Army Painter palette.
Thank you very much for the video, and explanation, because I think and started just as you say in the video and it has been a journey of incredible experiences. Success!
That Tamiya Extra Thin works with capillary action so you should be able to hold the part (ie. the medals) in place and then just touch the brush to the join, which will cause the cement to flow around the part. Saves on donations to the swear jar.
Thank you thank you thank you! You literally saved me well over 30 bucks!! I have this beautiful, Silver Black Velvet brush that got hooked tips. I use it on substrate that's very delicate like ricepaper because of how soft it is and this line of brushes can be incredibly expensive. This tutorial saved it! I am so grateful! I would like to mention though that since some brushes have their bristles secured to the handle with glue that one shouldn't dip the brush too deep into the hot water. I'd say try to stop right where the bristles emerge from the ferrule in this case to be safe, but I don't know what everyone's brushes are made of and people are free to do what they want and feel is right for their property. Happy painting everyone!
Everyone sleeping on Golden Fluid Acrylics. Built like Chimera, very base compatible with AK and Vallejo. Their Payne’s Grey is a solid bottle to have. For strait pigment callout paints they’re great and really nobody in the mini market does it. They also have Process colors in their line to do CYMK work without guessing at what is a true Magenta, or is it using a pigment that reliably mixes with a guess at a good Cyan, etc. Also AK 3rd Gen is pretty solid stuff both “creative” colors as well as “Real world” color matches.
Holy, this video was super helpful. I am new to the hobby and bought a few kolinsky brushes that split after the first use. I searched all over for what I was doing wrong. I didn't realize it was such a lottery.
Thank you for these tips, I have only used lower and probably synthetic brushes. Generally I find I get that hook temp all the time after a few uses I know I'm not pushing the brush and I know I'm not smashing it into the paint, so I'm not sure why this is happening I will try your tip of putting them in the hot water and see if that helps any other information you have might be useful thank you for your video,
I think that the middle road is best. Volumetric for expressive elements , flat for still. Why? If we are talking whole miniature hobby, you play with minis, and from my experience real light source obscure much of valumetric, so it is effort put to waste, on the other hand, what was flat now have shades and shadows. So I use valumetric for clothes, irregular pieces or heads, flat on armors and weapons etc
Going through the process to use the soap and that it requires 3-4 passes helped. I didn’t realize it needed to be done at the end of each painting session - I was only doing it every 3 or 4 sessions. Also the tip for restoring synthetic brushes was very helpful!
I recently bought some Da Vinci Kolinsky set with various brush sizes. The first brush I used had 3-4 hairs that were split from the rest and it couldn't keep a good tip either. Very disappointing. I hope the other brushes of the set are better. I was not aware that buying Kolinsky brushes is basically a lottery. 😂
Really great break down. As a new painter I wish I had seen this a lot earlier. Will definitely be focusing more on that control. Thanx for sharing your knowledge
Underrated channel for sure. Everything you said in this video is true. But as i've sad to other, similar, small channels: "Some of the best mini-hobby channels i've found rarely have over 10K subs. They are the hidden gold veins for those who know where to dig".
Great vid, many people assume it's obvious and skim over this topic and then suffer. BTW do you remember which colours were used for the cloth at 8:05? This is the exact palette I'm trying to nail with my undead < 3
