My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. I love animals and the people that take care of them. I started this station to provide veterinary knowledge and stories about my experience as a veterinarian. I believe that pets make our lives better, and the more knowledge we have about them the better we can care for them. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your comments on my station!
Please feel free to leave questions and comments about your pets. I will do my very best to provide information and knowledge regarding all questions. As a veterinarian I am not able to diagnose or treat any animals without seeing them first. So, please keep all questions about the topic, and do not ask about your pet directly. Thanks!
What is considered a long seizure? Our dog has had two that I know of, the first one about 3 months ago. The second one last night they have both happened in the middle of the night while we're all sleeping pets included the shaking seems to last about 30 to 45 seconds and then it probably takes another 30 or 40 seconds before he's got his wits about him
This video gave me some clarity. 2 weeks ago my dog started to get worse. We did X-rays last Saturday and it’s been so difficult to get some confirmation. The cancer centers we have contacted are pretty much a money grab right off the bat. It has spread to her lungs and I’m not sure what to do. The speciality doctors here don’t seem to care. So, I’m gradually just watching her be in pain while we try and find someone to help. Thank you for your video!
my dogs usually go blind when they are close to death, it would be a waste of money to try and stop a dog from dying. They usually have a couple years after you see that symptom along with being deaf
I need some help pls I have 6 cats (one was pregnant nd now she’s a mother )they have been positive the vet gave me panacur ..they got better for like 3 … my pregnant cat gave birth nd i thought it’s delivery diarrhea but now i have them all sick again vomit fever diarrhea…. The question is can the vet gave them panacur again ?? Is it bad for them ?? Fyi the vet tikd me that we only have panacur in Europe not like the other continent
Thank you. I am still just a tad confused. Are subcutaneous fluids administered ONLY when there is something wrong with your dog? Pardon my lack of knowledge on this-but if you could answer it would be great. THANKS AGAIN!
I brought my puppy to the ER the other day…. she was fine, but they did every test from parvo to X-rays & blood. it COST A THOUSAND DOLLARS! I still have to pay my dad back for it even though he’s the one who bought the dog 🙄 I brought her in because her respirations were 68 per 30 seconds 😨 I was super scared!
I went on their site with every intention of ordering some food for my dog . . . but . . . I'm bothered that everything is so damn vague. You give them the size and age of your dog and they decide you need the $139 bag and that you need to buy one every 3 weeks. No quantity, size or weight, no recommendation how much to feed the pup . . or . . how often. I guess I'd just like to know how they come to the conclusion of what I need to buy.
My GS of 9 years old is now showing severe hip- dysplasia....at once! She's not stable anymore and has a 'swinging walk'. I only get painkillers, or i have to dicide an operation, which i do not prefer. It is in both hips....i'm worried how long will she do on the painkillers. Anyone ? Thanks for the video anyway!!
My 8 year old huntaway was at the vet yesterday and the vet said he had a broken K9 tooth that would cause problems in the not far away future. $900 to extract broken tooth. That's in new Zealand where just about everything costs an arm and a leg.
lol…thanks for commenting. I went to the dermatologist and got it taken off. It was actually hyperpigmentation that is common in people that are native.
My beagle mix was just diagnosed with this, she is going to be 10 in November. She was drinking like she couldn't quencher her thirst. Then started having accidents, like loss of her full bladder. $400 worth of tests later, we were introduced to this disease. It's scary, I cried after hearing the diagnosis. But I hope with the right medicine, we can aid in helping her with what time she has left ❣️
I’ve had them for a year. They require info on any vet or vet hospital you’ve ever taken your pet to, and evidence of annual health visits (which they do not cover) and proof that any claims are not pre-existing conditions. Thus far, I’ve not gotten them to pay a cent on any claims I’ve filed. You also have to wait for a very long time when you try to reach them by phone. To add insult to this, they just raised their premium rates by 30 percent this year. I cannot recommend them.
Im pretty sure my cat has asthma.. i heard about the xray..but all the other tests!? I dont think i can afford that. Now i dont knwo if he'll be accepted for insurance 🥹

Thank you for this information, we’re sadly going through this with our gorgeous Ruby now she’s the most beautiful rottweiler ever! Sadly we have booked a home visit to have her put to rest this Monday 01/07/2024 and her ashes returned to us, we’ve been on this lost journey now for a good few months, and sadly it’s the only outcome which allows her peace, we will always love you Ruby and hope to be with you again if the afterlife is to follow for us all x
Two months ago, I gave her 14 days of clindamycin and antibiotics two times a day because she had drops of blood I seen in her urine because she had went and peed on the puppy pad and I got that cleared up in the hole this morning. I noticed on the puppy pad. There was a few drops of bright red blood, so I hope she hasn’t got another UTI so I gave her tramadol for pain cause I’m sure she’s in pain and I gave her 150 mg of Clinda myosin which is broad-spectrum antibiotic. They had given her some when she had her teeth pulled so I had some that was left over and it’s also what my dentist gives me when I go to get my teeth cleaned or get a tooth pulled, so I had some extra. I’ll check her again in a day or two but she’s been holding her urine not wanting to go outside mainly because it’s been raining and she doesn’t like the rain or thunder so she peas on the puppy pad that I have them for my Yorky, but I’ll check her again. I’ll check her again in a couple of days and if I see some spots of blood, I will call my Veterinarian .
My dog needs a cocker spaniel mix has a really bushy tail, and I take her to the groomers like every two months and up her hair hangs down by her anus, and sometimes when she poops the hair gets in it and then she scoots on the sidewalk or on the rug outside on my deck, and then I think the bacteria Gets into her urinary track because she scooting around moving that feces and I have to wash her butt several times. I’m not giving her any more soft food. She can just eat kibble from now on because when she eats other types of food that soft like fresh pet or something, and mix it with kibble, but her stools are still real soft
So that goop that you talk about. I think I had that for my dog a couple of months ago in his right ear and it helped the right ear. Now his left ear is giving him a hard time. He doesn't let me put drops in his ear. Do you trust the goop? I think it stays in for 30 days
If your dog has only 1 type of worms why would you want to give him 3 or 4 drugs combined in one rather than just the one drug he needs for the 1 type of worms he has? It's not as if the drugs have no bad side effects.
There’s a good lecture by maddies fund about 5-6 years ago. Big study that followed a large multi cat household 50+ cats for ten years. There was no evidence of it spreading from the positive to negative cats.
Goes to cats too unfortunately using excessive antibiotics also could lead to other health issues such as nephro problems which as well cause uncomfortable breathing
Not life threatening. However, it it bursts, infection could set in and that is dangerous. Best option is to perform or have a vet perform a hypodermic needle aspiration to relief pain and pressure. No worries about infection as long as clean procedure steps are taken. The best option at this point is to use an aural splint to prevent re-expansion of the hematoma. No surgery, no pharma, less worries. Auralsplint is here to help.
☹️ Our scottie has cancer in/on her toe. She spent a while licking her paw, we took her to the vet and they thought damaged claw, maybe an infection there, back and forthed a few times, antibiotics, more/different antibiotics, eventually it there was blood, they decided infection was bad and needed to remove claw at very least, went in and turned into full general anaesthetic followed by 4th toe amputation in her right poor. Vet still followed thiught process of infection, but removed one joint above the damaged bone, sent it off and it came back that there was cancer as the probable cause of the infection...i guess inflammation then infection. All last Tuesday. Shes a little hobbly, but seems so much happier... I just feel desperately worried about her and hope enough was removed. The vet said he was not expecting/looking for cancer originally so I don't really know if that translates to anything, whether i should be looking to push for further stuff to be done....
Thanks for the info. So if we want to get rid of the adults now from infestation but then also control the cycle.... do you have recommendations on how to do that?
