She also had slept in her trailer and appeared during rehearsal with her street clothes, disheveled and half-asleep. Back in the '50s and '60s, with only 3 TV networks, new TV series always got at least 13 weeks to find its audience. Since Tim Conway co-starred on so many failed series, he joked "President Johnson should send me to Vietnam. The war will be over in 13 weeks."
Funny seeing Schlitz beer as a sponsor. They were for many years #2 only to Budweiser, so Schlitz hired away from Anheuser-Busch their brewmaster, Frank Sellinger, and put him in charge. He completely changed Schlitz's recipe to taste like Budweiser. They bought an entire Super Bowl halftime to stage the preposterous "Bud-Schlitz Taste Challenge" moderated by former NFL ref Tommy Bell. Here's the problem: People who love Budweiser's taste stuck with Bud rather than buying Schlitz's Fake Bud. Those who loved the original Schlitz for its taste did NOT like Bud, and abandoned Schlitz. Today the Schlitz brand is a faint echo.
