How to do Street Photography with London based Street Photographer Nick Turpin. Weekly tips, insights, reviews and discussion about the practice of candid public photography.
Why have you stop taking pictures and making such amazing videos? No videos in last three years I'm missing all your point of view videos. Kindly start making it again and uploading it on RU-vid. Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial. I am wondering if creating an additional custom formatted print of an image which has been sold as an edition print previously is ok?
Nick Hannes work looks so staged and static. It all looks like it's shot on a tripod too. Those guns alongside those minarets? What kind of soldiers would leave guns in public like these? Ones that have been paid to allow the shot that is. No pun intended. They give the game away making me think it's all staged and choreographed. I hate this bullshit! That is not street photography! Proper street photography is what Winogrand, Friedlander, Meyerowitz and co. were doing, not this crap.
Extremely useful video, and beautiful work. Many thanks. Discovering your Night Bus series a couple of years ago nearly convinced me to stop shooting; there didn't seem to be any point since you'd accomplished perfection, but this makes me want to keep going.
Your POV videos are pretty good! You not only show how you do it, thru the POV, but your comments later on after you make the pictures are pretty helpful. Keep it up the good work! Cheers!
Really glad I came across your channel Nick. I’m relatively new to street photography and my approach has been somewhat chaotic, not dissimilar to many of the videos I’ve watched which are all generally quite run and gun. I’m very much drawn to your slower and more layered approach to finding and setting a scene, then the patient and observant strategy of allowing stories and visual elements to unfold. I’m definitely going to take a stab at this next time I’m out. Great content!
What a great video ! Learnt how a professional see and press shutter. only at middle of the video I sudden notice the ISO was set at 3200! at day light!. And with this high ISO, large DOV and high shutter speed can be set, which are important for street photograph. I own only the first generation X100 for 10 years, and time to upgrade it, Q2 or X100V...
Stuff like this.... are the main reason why we should get annual passes to museums and galleries! I now see them in a different light (sorry about the pun)!
Thanks Nick! Do you ever get the urge to throw in a shot or two with some motion blur in a foreground layer (e.g. a passer by)? I saw you have some motion blur in some of your website portfolio. Is there a quick way you know of to switch the Fuji to such a mode (and back again) - maybe a shortcut button you can assign to force 1/8th second while pressed? Guessing there are many ways to do it, but interested to know if I missed something. Thanks
He takes so many shots. I usually take one maybe two. I wait for the perfect moment then take the shot. “The decisive moment” Not saying that wrong, just interesting. I suppose I’m wrong, but when I get the shot it feels good.
Thank you for this very informational video! Helps me a lot as I just started to sell prints and have sold a hand full till now but im still learning as im doing. Question would you stay away from printing your name or logo within the print?
Thank you Nick for these very useful practical advices. One question I am concerned with permanent ink pens, because in time the color expands and might go also on the other side where the photo is damaging it? Please advice.
Excelente investigación…en este género que cada día se produce con mayor incidencia en la captura de momentos, en la construcción objetiva de la subjetividad y la belleza expresiva.
Great advice Nick. Thanks. You seem to do quite low-edition runs. Is that simply because of the amount of work you have or you price accordingly? Do you have a suggested amount of limited edition? I get such conflicting advice - some 25, others say just keep below 850! Tricky. On your site, how does a prospect know what number of editions they are buying or if they are sold out? Also, Would it be too cheeky to ask you to make your edition book spreadsheet available along with details on set up? Cheers, Ivan
I just picked up a used F model recently to use as a basic travel/street photography platform. Looking forward to exploring it's capability. Thanks Nick for your videos - keep going!
Truly enjoyed watching this video...would love to see how you organise your pictures during the editing process considering you shoot quite a few images of the same scene..
Maybe it is a good camera, but not that compact, so I will rather go for a Ricoh GR/GRII/GRIII or a Sony 6xxx-series camera or just use my iPhone if I do not have me Sony A7RIV with me.
