Most of the vids on my channel revolve around my interest in bowling (particularly vintage bowling equipment from the 1980s and my use of it on today's modern conditions) as well as my 1968 VW Beetle and my restoration of the car.
Hi! Great work with the head unit! My Uconnect 7 unit broke down, black screen with Fiat Logo, works just on the last radio station on which it was before. I bought from Amazon an Boomboost unit, same as xtrons. I have some questions: this unit it only works with engine on or contact on? I cant make it work when i wait in the car with engine off? The blue contact from the Uconnect/car, that it is used for GPS, we don’t Connect it to the new unit, we just hide it behind? Thank You very much!
Correct...key must be in "ON" position or engine running for the head unit to work. Blue connector may be satellite antenna, if your new head unit supports satellite it'll probably come with its own antenna
Oddly I too am working on a 68 beetle… no hard start though. I’m rewiring as the previous owner, well left a dangerous mess. I also was concerned about the lack of a fuse for the high current long run. Always add a fuse as close as possible to the source. My option was to add the fuse at the point where it leaves the regulator before the light and ignition split. Really, the should be a relay for the headlamps so that the switch doesn’t carry the current… thanks for sharing. What triggered all this… My ignition switch wiring had a fuse… 14ga with a 30A in-line and the wiring had melted shorting to the column…
@@edwine.y9920 That's a matter of opinion. In theory the core should give the Ultra better hitting power like the Faball Hammers had but I have no idea if that actually was the case
Thanks for the video. I am assuming that there is a microphone already in the car for handsfree calls. Did you need to connect this cable to the new head unit? (I didn't see any mention of this in your video). Thanks.
This is B.S. a bad or no ground will NOT turn on brake light period! The ground is only applied to sensor wire on master cylinder when fluid is way low! If fluid is ok the ground wire is not even applied! All these sites saying light on is bad ground is total B.S. you can unplug the sensor and light will still be on so stop with the bad ground crap. Yes there is bad grounds causing all sorts of issues, but a bad or no ground will not make brake light come on, only low fluid will.
Thanks for putting this video together. I just got done installing one of these units in my 2016 Fiat 500X and this video was super helpful. Regarding the two issues you noted, I didn't seem to have them with my setup. My 500X has the Beats audio amp and subwoofer, and the sound quality is great. You mentioned that you might install an amp, and I suspect that would help significantly. I'm not sure if there was an update since you received yours, but I was able to manually set the time on mine. There's a setting to select the source, with the options being network, GPS, and off. If I select off, I'm able to manually set the time.
I have the amp, will be installing it next week and making a video of the process. As for the time thing, XTRONS customer support told me that due to the audio chip they used, time could not be set manually. Seemed like a lame excuse to me at the time, now it's obvious that it was an oversight on their part that was fixable 🤔
93 + 7 mnths and I'm replacing all steering parts on my 64 beetle. This video will give me confidence. Thanks. Just an aside: The part that gave me trouble was disconnecting the damper on psgr. side. No one commented on the lock clip. !,
I REALLY LOVED THE THREE STOOGES!! BECAUSE THEY ARE REALLY THE GREATEST!! AND I"LL CONTINUE WATCHING ALL OF THE THREE STOOGES COLLECTION;; FOREVER!!❤❤😊😊
Black Angle was the GOAT of the 80s. First and best. I had many dozens of bowling balls, and none of them were as consistently effective as the Black Angles I threw.
Hi Cris, great VIDEO! Congratulations. Would it be possible to change a radio like mine (so simple) for one from Xtrons? Do you need a CANBUS? What functionalities would it have? I'm interested in: androidauto, phone calls, and steering wheel sound control (especially) : images.motorflash.com/filter?path=https%3A%2F%2Ffotos.estaticosmf.com%2Ffotos_anuncios%2F00%2F03%2F75%2F14%2F71%2F0%2Fg42.jpg&size=700&format=webp images.motorflash.com/filter?path=https%3A%2F%2Ffotos.estaticosmf.com%2Ffotos_anuncios%2F00%2F03%2F75%2F14%2F71%2F0%2Fg38.jpg&size=700&format=webp images.motorflash.com/filter?path=https%3A%2F%2Ffotos.estaticosmf.com%2Ffotos_anuncios%2F00%2F03%2F75%2F14%2F71%2F0%2Fg32.jpg&size=700&format=webp
I want to thank you so much I have a 2008 Jeep compass that solved my right fog light and my brake light on. They have so many issues with wiring. 👍.. I live in Southwest Ohio the winters can be pretty bad. They use a lot of salt on the roads.
Your personal views aren't wanted, a properly fitted spring clamp is safer, that's why manufactors use them, I let you research reasons to not use gear clamps .
If you don't want my views don't watch my videos. High quality OEM spring clamps are fine, but the fact of the matter is that most aftermarket spring clamps you buy today come from China, aren't made of proper spring steel, and lose their clamping pressure after being opened once or twice. Found that out from personal experience...that's why I used Oetiker clamps.
I don't know how to explain the sound, but it seems like something is trying to latch, but then it falls. This only happens when I turn on the heater, and it sounds like it starts if I turn the air all the way up and then turn on the heater. However, today the heat won't turn on at all, although I can feel air coming out of the vents. It's really strange, but based on this information, do you think the issue could be that part?
If it's a repeating plastic clicking sound like somebody sticking a credit card in a slow-ish running fan, then it's almost certainly a bad blend door actuator
It's in the service manual...basically remove the steering wheel and bushing underneath, loosen turn signal stalk assembly, remove two screws holding the ignition securing bracket, insert key and pull cylinder out slightly until spring can be seen in slot at top of housing, then stick a thin wire into the hole in side of housing to release cylinder
Wow! I'm having the same issues! I tried your first method, the brake lever switch, and that didn't seem to fix my issue. Thank you for that video though! Imma gonna try this one now. You are amazing, even if these don't work. Thanks for this video!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm hoping like hell that that's what's wrong with my car. Changed the fluid sensor, and the light is still on. So hopefully this'll be the solution my mechanic discovers. tomorrow. But thanks for the video!
FYI: I have owned/driven only Toyotas since 1976. That's the year I bought my first new Toyota, a 1976 Celica GT Liftback. Great car. I live in Arizona and for nearly as long I have used only Mobil 1 15/50 oil. It's getting pretty scarce now but I will continue to use it as long as I can find it. Why? Because I believe Toyota (and others) no longer want our engines to last for 200K+ miles. They discovered that it's costing them a lot of money if we don't replace their cars more often. Of course they will never admit this and you certainly don't have to agree with me but you all should at least give this some thought.
Nicely done Chris! Rarely have I seen a potentially confusing and complex topic explained so succinctly and thoroughly. If you’re not a professor somewhere, you missed your calling!
Awesome video! Just bought the cables + canbus as I already had de the head unit. But I do have a question: do all the steering wheel's commands come from the canbus? Shoutout from Brazil! :P
Yes, the steering wheel controls are all CANBUS, and if I remember correctly there's a menu in the head unit where you can (re)program the buttons to do certain things
Kudos to whoever put this together. For years I would go around the house and every once in a while I would call out to some family member, “hey porcupine “. Finally the family wanted to know why I do this. So I went to RU-vid expecting it would take me a while to find one example of this from the three stooges, but lo and behold someone went to the trouble of putting this compilation together. To that person I say, “hey porcupine, thanks a lot,” !!!
Hello... thanks again for this video. couple more questions. can you confirm if the new stereo still has ability to change the "car settings"... the menu on original stereo that has ability to turn off radio with door open close. or setting the day running lights? Also... can you confirm the stereo output is low level?... because your car and many others actually has factory stereo amp in the trunk.
Settings in the head unit are done though CANBUS...if your head unit has the correct CANBUS module and you set the head unit for the proper vehicle type the settings options should be available. I don't know if stereo output is low level...you should ask XTRONS about that
I tried this trick but the left light (low beam) is still low and no high beam. I ran the wire from the left (wht/blu) to the right (wht/?) Can anyone help?
