My kids laugh at me when I do my pretend cooking show. I don't film them though. Have you done a feature about what Katie and Kayla do for their post military jobs? As a teacher, I'm always amazed that our own children opt out of our chosen careers. Ha! (Also, I don't think for a second that Katie works in the mines...)
Hahaha! Katie definitely does NOT work in the mines, but it sounded kind of cool, didn't it? :) Kayla moved back in with Katie after she finished up with her military stint, and Katie is still in for a couple more years. I love that you do a pretend cooking show! I bet it's awesome! :) :)
Summer is great for these trips to check in with our kids! Are both Katie and Kayla in the service? I can't remember what branch Katie had spent her years. I love her self autonomy and willingness to get things done. Wonder where she gets it?
Summers are the best! Katie and Kayla are best friends who actually met in Navy bootcamp and have been inseperable ever since! I love her can-do attitude! She loves to try all the home stuffs! :)
OMG I love that theme it's adorable!! I like the jobs and the idea of writing the kids name's on the stars. Best wishes for a great school year! I just subscribed!
That is a tough question! 😂 For third/fourth grade I would say three of my faves are A Fish in a Tree, The Wild Robot series, and Mr. Lemoncello series. But I feel like I could go on and on! 😁❤️
Maybe try St. Vincent De Paul Pick Up service next time. I prefer them to Goodwill, their items go to people in need vs. Goodwill. They will also come and pick up your items, if they are boxed/bagged. As a teacher, that's who I regularly donate to.
You've inspired me to start reading again---currently reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I've been looking for star cutouts but can't seem to find any. I'll have to revisit my Hobby Lobby and see if they've put them out since I've last been.
Wow that's a lot of books 📚! I hope you have an attached garage so it might have been a bit cooler. I have a question for you - What kind of color printer do you use to make school materials and things? I have an old HP inkjet printer and ink is so expensive and doesn't last long. What would you recommend? Thank you!
We actually have 3. THREE. Attached garages. Every summer I think how nice it would be to park in one of them! :) I switched over to an Epson Ecotank printer and absolutely LOVE it! I have printed reams and REAMS of pages, and have only had to fill up the ink 3 or 4 times ever! I think this is my third summer using it, and haven't regretted it for a minute!
I did think about it, but with travels coming up soon and school on the horizon, I really just wanted to be done with them! :) It's so hot here right now, I am hibernating in my nice cool house!
I love the idioms! I dont know exactly what grades I'm teaching this year (SPED Autism) but if I have upper elementary, I could see this being a great resource for my classroom.
I watched this and laughed at the changing the calendar part because I literally said I was not going to do that to my middle school classroom (for Spanish & French)...and yet I am. Love the theme though! Wish my teachers did that when I was in elemntary school.
Awesome, Casey! You could totally put 2 to a half sheet! I usually try to make things smaller, but when I saw a 300 pack of sticker paper, I got excited! :)
Great vlog as always!! If you can, will you link the TPT for the figurative language? I tried looking for it but couldn’t find the ones like what you showed. Thanks so much!!
Are these all books you've read? I always donate my fiction books immediately and I waffle over my non fiction. Children's books and classics stay though! Lol. I love your book collection!
Thank you! They are a combo deal! I’ve read many, listened to others (and had a hard copy too), some were duplicate copies, and some I thought I’d read but didn’t! I kept many favorites! 😁❤️
Destashing my books is on my agenda as well. I have way too many. (Never thought I would say that.) I love that you are displaying Mrs. Piggle Wiggle on your shelves. That is one of my all-time favorites.
I love that! I also never thought I would say I have too many books-maybe just that my bookshelves are getting too fluffy. 😂 Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is the BEST!! 😁❤️
@@TalesFromtheThirdDegree There is a reason that I have never worked in a bookstore. My entire paycheck would have been spent in the store. 😂 I like your thinking about the bookshelves getting too fluffy. That is a much better way to think about it.
When I taught third grade I read third grade angels at the beginning of the year and fourth grade rats at the end. Now that I teach fourth, I started to read fourth grade rats but felt that it would be better if they heard third grade angels first. Our state testing is STAR and we use that data to determine interventions in small groups.
Thank you so much! We got the shelves years ago from Home Depot and installed them ourselves. It was quite a chore, but I have loved them for years! :)
So many books! I'm jealous! I'm moving into a classroom with no library, no real classroom budget, and no thrift stores around. Ahhh... I love living in a small town, until I need to do this. I'm going to be so broke this school year.
I'm so sorry about the "no books" thing! I remember those days starting out without a lot--I got so much of my stuff (a lot that I still have!) from garage sales! Maybe there are some bigger towns near that will have community sales near you? :)
So many books, so little time 😂 We are locked out of our classrooms until cleaning is done. Can you go in throughout the summer to work or is your school locked down as well?
We really can go in at anytime throughout the summer, but with summer school still going on, there are quite a few people there right now! It will quiet down a bit during the first few weeks of July, but we get to keep our keys and there are custodial and teaching staff there most days! I am still shocked at how many books I had...oops! :)
I actually work at a Catholic School in Connecticut ans we actaually have our own Standards geared towards Catholic School. We test 3 times a year using MAPS Testing. While it provides great data; i'm stll not a fan. Love your channel and all the real life videos. THank you. Alicia from CT
Thank you, Alicia! I have heard of MAPS, but have never used it. I would consider private school when I retire to avoid the state testing (and over testing) of kids! 😁❤️
I’m in Indiana and we use ILEARN for our state assessment. We use the SAVAAS Reading series and the district says if students pass these assessments then they will do well on the state assessment. To me they don’t really align so I will be finding other resources again to help me teach the standards that are assessed on ILEARN.
There always seems to be a discrepancy between what is said and what is true, doesn’t there?!? I hope you are enjoying your summer-are you guys out yet? 😁❤️
I'm in GA and we use the GA Milestone Assessment. The district last year didn't do much to help teachers or students and I don't believe State testing does anything but stress people out .. lol.
I have heard of that one! Do you have district tests that "mimic" the state test? I really wish we could do quality testing that REALLY showed us student growth and understanding!
@@TalesFromtheThirdDegree No, district tests. We are required to do MAPS testing 3 times per year. It gives some good data in relation to our state test.
We heard at the end of last year that we were going to stop one set of quarterly tests that we do! I'm afraid for what might be in their place, but for now, it's a win! :)
Thank you so much for the reviews of the audio books!! I will be working 45 miles away from home next school year and was planning to use my Libby app to keep me company. I have a bad habit of always reaching for the same authors so I'm glad to hear about some different books.
I don't know if i even shared with you that i found a new teaching position in a new district and it is exactly what i always wanted- SPED Autism Teacher!! Anyway, i want to prep SO BAD but i don't have pertinent details like developmental levels, grades, or class size yet. So im over here itching to get started. I did start on some errorless task boxes and decor but i have so much i WANT to do but have to be patient (ha!). But know that you are not alone. I'm usually planning next year during the current year. Lol.
I've never ordered from Shein but i live for my temu deals. Lol. I am hoping to film a Temu "Autism Teacher Haul" maybe tonight or tomorrow. I just got a huge bag of goodies for $15!!
Truly LOVE YOUR CHANNEL and CONTENT!!!! You are such an inspiriation!!! I am getting relocated into 4th grade and I am struggling with that, howver, all the amazing resources you share are helping me accept this change. We don't get out of school until 6/14 nonetheless, I'm already looking at the books and planning out the year. Could you possible do a video on Interactive Notebooks /. I do not have a reading series or curriculum or an ELA(Grammar/Writing) so I am trying to plann and create one. I had one for my perious grade but sadly I will not be doing that grade. I plan to do Novel Sudies and use Stroyworks for Reading and thinking about the other areas. Any suggestions? Thank you. Enjoy your summer!!!! Don't work too much! Alicia from CT
You will love 4th grade, Alicia! I will definitely share more on the interactive notebooks! I love novel studies, they are my favorite! Hang in there, good luck on your last day today! 😁❤️
You would be a hoot to work with! Love your sense of humor 😄 I am trying to plan for the first few days of school and getting what I can done so I can focus on classroom setup when I get back into the classroom. Yay for smaller class sizes. I know you had a lot last year! Good luck with everything!
Thank you, Jesse! Definitely am a hoot! 😂 I think we should create a fantasy league of teachers for teachers, and raise our pay rate to that of pro athletes-are you in?!? 😁❤️
Before I "semi-retired" I always started my back to school prep early. That way I could do it at my leisure and wasn't stressed about it. It was fun for me to just do it a little at a time :) Love the interactive notebook idea. I think this year, it will work!
Yes! You get it! I love doing all the teacher stuff, and having time to work on it leisurely is key! Thank you for the vote of confidence for the interactive notebooks! 😁❤️
