I'm Kim Justice. I make documentaries about old computer and video games, mostly with a European slant - it's all about the ZX Spectrum, the Commodore Amiga, the C64, plenty of great companies like Ocean Software, rises and falls, tales of technological and bureaucratic disaster...all sorts. I do Sega and Sony too. I also do wrestling, old TV, music, and anything else that catches my interest. Enjoy!
Social links are below you, above you (twice) and probably in several other places around here - do follow!
Grew up with a speccy +3 in the 80s as a kid, my personal favorite micro computer of the era. Good times and always great to see people developing modern games for it
"Monomate" and "Dimate" started with the second game. In this one the healing items were "Pelorimate" (a play on a Japanese energy snack called "Calorie Mate"), and Ruoginin (no idea what this means).
Donkey Kong... honestly I preferred Krazy Kong. It was most definitely pirate version of Donkey Kong for the arcades but I thought it handled better. First home version of Donkey Kong would have been the one for my C64. Good times. Missed days
I have played Rompers and Splatterhouse. (On an emulator arcade who didn't asks for money and an actual Namco compilation respectivly). I did knew of Splatterhouse a lot (Thanks Derek from SSFF fame, among other people), but I never knew about Rompers before playing it. I can confirm both are a good time (even if I didn't got far in either).
Game was so bad😂😂😂 I was so disappointed. This game popped up in a fb group with people lying like this was a game today’s kids will never know about as great. It’s sad we’ve became the generation that acts like EVERYTHING from back then was so great when it wasn’t, nostalgia is powerful but overhyping everything is nasty work
Got my copies of Black & White 1, and Fable Lost Chapters at a church sale of all things lol.. but glad I went, Im now a big fan of these games; as For Peter M...hmm he's an odd apple 🪱but ive got mad respect for his love for that Tama Side-note, yup I was that kid - dragging my Gigapets and Digimon to school XD
You're right. I'm surprised to see Regulus so high on this list. I used to play a cabaret version at a cafe years ago, and while it's not terrible, it's slow and plodding and frustrating in a way Xevious wasn't. Also, it looks and sounds so much like a Master System game that I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it used the same hardware.
I had a pirated danish (I'm not in Denmark) copy of Hugo for PC back in the early 90s. Super fun games. We even had our own show here in Slovenia, but that was back in the day when DTMF phones were still somewhat new.
Kudos for the effort, but obviously the games contained in this and their order is purely subjective. I mean, seriously, how can a top arcade list of all time not include R-Type? Ms PacMan? Wonderboy in Monsterland? Virtua Striker 2? Rainbow Islands? Outrunners? Ghouls 'n' Ghosts? Raiden 2? Twin Cobra? Contra? Arkanoid? Altered Beast? Frogger? Dragon Breed? Dig Dug? Ridge Racer? Karnov? QBert? Dragon's Lair? Tehkan World Cup? Tecmo World Cup 1990? Rygar? Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja? Rastan Saga? Parodius?
Proud to have.an official tape copy of Neoplasma 1 to add to my extensive Aliens games collection. Hopefully, once Russia is beaten back and the war comes to an end, they'll be able to manufacture some tapes of Neoplasma II (can't be done at the moment).
It is 2024...... I have a kick ass PC, yet what did i just buy on Steam for the grand total of £2.88? Half Life and Half Life 2. All these new games that are out, and i choose those. Just watched this too see if my nostalgia goggles were rose tinted before i go and play them, and luckily, they aren't. Never played the original, but i remember playing The Orange Box briefly many years ago on the 360..... We moved too Portslade then about 6 weeks after, had an offer for a place in Hove we couldn't refuse, so moving twice in quick succession, HL2 kinda took a back seat and sadly, i lost it somehow. But i remember it being really good. Can't wait too get stuck in too both again.
Sanchez Crew are simple awesome, they bring the console type of games (like NES) to the ZX Spectrum indeed, but with some fresh takes. The "terror" mood, sense of isolation like you've said is what I love on these games. I still have to play the second one, thanks for the video.
Hi, Kim. Thanks for sharing this. Glad to see the 'Speccy', still have some 'Code', written for it. A great concept. I thought you had disappeared, so also glad to see you still around doing the wonderful job you do for all of us 'Nostalgia Geeks/Developers'.:)
Wonderful stuff Kim. I have a soft spot for the Electric Dreams Aliens game... it's terrifying, has great music but the "how to win" is baffling. Facehuggers in AvP Gold are real threats... scuttle... scuttle... face full of death!
