I went with 64GB LCD. OLED is almost twice its price and for the limited use it will get from me it's not worth it. If by chance I did use it more extensively than predicted then I can buy OLED later on and sell the LCD version to cut some losses. Though that difference in Doom 3 gameplay sure is staggering.
That's the biggest advantage over lcd and oled, especially a crappy lcd like the SD lcd. Some people will never notice or care, but like shown in doom 3, I do personally believe that the image on the OLED model is more in line with what developers were going for as opposed to a washed out mess. Lcd is still a great model and even better at the stupid low sell out price they have for the discontinued models I don't think anyone would truly be disappointed with either model
The thing is there will always be something better on the horizon, that's the nature of technology. The Ally X should last a significantly long time and performs very well.
You make excellent points in this video. Like you said: the Steam deck just works and it’s an accurate statement when compared to Windows. I continue to enjoy my OLED as well. It’s refreshing to see a video comparing the original/LCD and the OLED.
Performance has gotten better over time on the latest versions of yuzu before it got taken down. Ryujinx has gotten smoother. Settings will be the same typically
Asus should offer every old Ally owner a battery upgrade. This is ridiculous, it takes 50 minutes of a demanding game to drain the system. 50 minutes! I learned a very important lesson- don't buy on the first day... unless it comes from Steam. Valve always does great with their things.
I have a modded LCD Deck, 2TB NVMe Sabrent Rocket, 1TB Sandisk Extreme. I will not be upgrading to the OLED. I prefer my OG with replaced thermal pads and thermal paste. I also installed a cold plate to the inside of the case to help cool down the deck more. Fans normally dont come on anymore unless i'm deep into a game of Elden Ring (or other heavy games like that). The OLED doesnt support sleep downloading/updating (and that would be the only reason i would want it).
I have a monoblock on my lcd currently, going to be using the v2 soon. I do agree with mods making the fan come on less. I do find it annoying that sleep downloading or screen off at least isn't a thing on either yet.
I’m selling my ally for the x for me the extra ram and cooling seems to be built for this system my sd card hasn’t broke but I play on just performance mode because I’m scared to crank it up because it gets so hot. And I noticed that even though games run well on the og games that have presets like re2 and 3 tell you it’s based on the ram you have for graphics so I figured more ram and cooler system better performance at all preset more comfortably second the storage and the comfort of the design being able to customize your storage based on your needs is great. The grip and the triggers and buttons are just extra. The battery is a plus just to not have to plug if I don’t want too it cool to say I keep mine plug in but it would be nice to not every once and a while and last the black man it really makes the screen pop more and seem more uniformed looking at it already make mine look outdated. If this well the last one for a couple of years I rather just jump now
Is there like, a feature where I can use a dual screen? An example is, Pokemon, you see the game on a monitor, then you see the menu on the unit screen.
Basically this is like upgrading a 4070 ti super to a 4080 super not much of a huge upgrade. I baught a legion gon and I'm loving it the ally x was my other option but glad i got the go
That power bank is dirty! Clean your crap before posting a vid. My stuff is dirty too btw, but I'm not doing videos lol. EDIT: Just saw one of your replies further down saying "husky life".... you're forgiven.
All good my man. Although it may not look it at times I do wipe down everything before filming but sure enough, something will get on whatever I'm looking at and I'll miss it on the view finder. It annoys me just as much as anyone else haha
I think it's one for them things. People saying wait is kind of wrong. The Rog ally has been out for 12 months now got numerous updates fixing alot of bugs and making the experience more and more streamlined. The X is the calibration of everything they have improved on the ally but a hardware improvement on what everyone complained about and wanted. Upping the ram, bigger battery adding new power modes and improvements to the sticks ect. Yes there will be some new devices out but will they been as good as the X. Example look at the go and others that have come before it. For me I won't be upgrading my original ally for this but if someone was looking for a device to buy as they don't have one ide recommend it over others on the market and ones that are coming so far. That said great to have a choice though.
Crazy to think 80 wh battery wouldn't last an hour in a gaming laptop but will give your hours of gaming on a handheld.. Im waiting until my deck gives out to ever buy a new handheld been 2 yrs almost so far never once had to send it in because I baby the hell out of it lol
Hopefully later this year or early 2025, we get a Legion Go Pro that's like a Rog Ally X that has a 80w battery. If they do, I'll be one of the first people to pre-order it.
The strix point is 90 a 110 watt Apu and the Ryzen 9 8945HS has A TDP of 45 W that is way to high for a handheld. we would go back to 50 mins run time.
Here are a few suggestions/wishlist items for improved experience: 1. Add 90hz and 120hz refresh rate 2. Add more screen resolution (1680×1050; 1440×900; 1600x1000) 3. Add AMD AFMF to work natively on the device (not just external monitors) 4. Ability to change VRAM on the fly within quick settings menu/Legion Space app. 5. Ability to change starting page (Library, Settings, Controller, My, etc) when starting up Legion Space app. 6. Ability to filter games/apps on "Library" page according to game platform (e.g. Steam, GOG, Epic, Battlenet, etc) so that we can see specific games from specific platforms if choose to. 7. Under Settings>Performance, give users the choice to add more Custom profiles if needed (currently only 2). 8. Ability to rename Custom profiles to any name we prefer. 9. Add Equalizer in Audio Settings (Legion Go's default sound profile is notoriously uninspiring). 10. Add dedicated buttons to minimize / exit Legion space app (credit goes to @Goochball) 11. Under Controller button mapping, add ability to map "M1 button". Right now, we can only map M2, M3, Y1, Y2, Y3 (Somehow M1 is missing). 12. Ability to disable "tablet/screen" gyro (it is causing unwanted gyro input while in Windows, which is extremely annoying. for example, when Start button is pressed, it will swipe it away if we move the device forward/backward/tilt sideways) 13. Add description for each TDP profile (Quiet(8W), Balance(15W), Performance(20W), Custom) 14. Fix "Radeon Super Resolution (RSR)" function in the Quick Settings Menu. Currently, it's not working properly. 15. Ability to map secondary buttons (like mouse click) to the controllers when using Windows. 16. Add shortcut buttons to increase / decrease screen brightness.
it's so tempting for me - someone who has always felt that the meager 16gb was not enough, especially for games with mods. But I think I will wait for a later generation machine.
Sorry, 30% is not a substantial upgrade and is not next gen worthy? Do you truly think perhaps you mistyped and meant 3% because last time I checked just under a third of something is a substantial amount
Mid Gen refresh are always the best things to buy if you don't want problems. You should have started with the X and not the original Ally. The same goes for phones, skip the first Gen because that's where all the problems are. This device will be headache free for anybody who gets it . If you run out and get the next big upgrade it's going to have more flaws than the refresh that comes after . There is a flaw in your logic but I understand it .
