Glad there are some still out there, I do not come across many. Recently I did a timing belt where the hydraulic tensioner was reused, failed 30k/5 years later.
@@SamslamminCars my mechanics are 2 old Portuguese guys. Unfortunately they look like they’ve got about 5 years left before they retire. The only mechanics I’ve ever gone to. Some work I don’t have time to do, you know how it is. Too busy working sometimes to fix my cars. I do have 8 of them after all.
@@SamslamminCars you know a lot about Toyotas. I’m thinking maybe buying a 2002 4Runner SR5 212,000 miles. Needs maintenance like valve cover gaskets, tires the rear wheel is covered in grease so obviously somethings going on. Im gonna try for $2,000-2500. Red 4 wheel drive. A little rust not too bad considering. Rebuild trans, new gas tank. Interior is good just dirty. Red in color
Drove right by ya on the way back in it. What year or any in particular? The only Toyota I have owned was a 04 Tacoma Pre-Runner, that little Tonka truck handled well.
Dang 70k! What state are you located out of curiosity? Only thing I’m not feeling is the rain guards. Obviously the broken one, but the fact that they are not in channel is kind of wonky.
They were cheap and I actually like the slim design of these rain guards. I broke the one while pushing the car and trying to grab the E-Brake one day. Virginia is where we reside
@@SamslamminCars you could have at least gotten some with silver chrome on them to match the chrome trim. But hey, to each their own. Nonetheless, I have the same car, except silver. And a lot more miles. Still a beast though.
I’m actually watching your video again. Curious about why you changed the sway bar? And “if” you decided to sell it. What would be your asking price? I’m genuinely curious.
@@MrRedHotChiliMan how many miles does yours have? Ever inspect the lifters or anything? No one wants to spend a premium on an old Accord so probably not happening.. plus my two other vehicles are a 79 & 89.
Gen2 Avalon, right? We've had a lot more maintenance on our 03 because it sat, undriven, for two years while an estate was cleared. Quote from my mechanic, who hates working on old cars in the Northeast: "This car is amazing." Quote from my son: "This thing is FAST." Took me two years, but I finally have learned to insist on Toyota OEM replacements for anything that has reached the end after 23 years. Only 101k miles, so just barely broken in.
I had to look it up since I thought it was a 1st gen but you're correct. A sitting vehicle is as bad as an abused one: unless stored out of the elements and prepared properly. Aftermarket parts are a crapshoot anymore & you are also best off doing just that, using OEM when possible. Yours is just getting broken in!!!!
@@user-bz7zh2uo7e Disagree, the main Blvd running alongside the highway here is littered with lights. Manual brakes & people pulling out at every street light is much more dangerous. Our highways are only 55mph , with 4 lanes being the safest place; just like for motorcycles.
@@user-bz7zh2uo7e thank you Sir' I drove it 700 miles from Alabama to the VB through the Mountain ranges. It was challenging but the Truckers were very cordial; trying to keep it safe but relive its youth.
@@SamslamminCars I have. TJ on 40s with G2 heavy duty axles ( almost 10 grand lol) but it's built for hard use. I can't fit it in the garage...or airport parking 😂. Impractical as hell. And I love it! I'm thinking about selling though. My friend wants it and I'd love to start a new project based on a JK. I've been out of the country for 2 years and just have zero time.
@@SamslamminCars I can believe it. Like you said. Not for everyone but neither is a Humvee 😂. My son is an incredible mechanic and wants to do a V8 swap on one for me. I loved all my Jeeps but the current TJ is the favorite.
Lol it's made by Warren oil company. Lubrigold, saxxon.. same company. Just cause it's marketed jeep doesn't make it cheap. It still meets and exceeds oem standards for modern cars.
I have been using this oil on countless amounts of engines without any abnormal breakdown or oil consumption. It is comparable to Mobil 1 in the States
Agree but was replacing the fluid too. I have seen master cylinders collapse otherwise but it is rare. When pistons are fully extended I do not risk it, unless the bleeder bolt looks seized.
I just did a job for my son-in-law on his g37x. The dealership wanted $4k to replace valve cover gaskets, coil packs, and spark plugs. It to me 1/2 a day and $400 in parts. Easy money
🤣 in Virginia but Carvana brought it & most definitely a Northern whip. The frame is already cooking up some nice soft rotted metal as we speak, clean otherwise.
Not all filters are equal & lower grade paper cellulose filters should never be used over 3-5k miles. If you have a filter rated for 10k, 20k then maybe.. I personally always change the filter with the oil. I have heard of others' skipping filters or oil per intervals, see no point in this and the minimal savings at best.
I bet if you wanted to clean it out even better then right after your oil change run it for several minutes then drain it again and put fresh oil back into it. Of course that costs more money.
This engine was not very dirty but for neglected engines. I recommend using seafoam with cheap oil or using some transmission fluid if n/a. Get it to running temperature for a while then change it out.
Interestingly, Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics has a 2-part video on a flashing dash panel on a 2004 Avalon, with part 2 just posted today... May or may not be the same issue, but it sure is similar.
I have a 2014 Outback 2.5i same engine as yours and it has made this noise on cold start practically since new, I took it to the dealer they said its normal and no issues present never given me an issue other than a sound which I am used to after almost 11 years of owning it
That noise is not normal but i'm glad that it has not hindered the life of your engine. I'm used to Honda/Toyota engines that regularly make it to 250k + Not really common for these boxer engines.
@@SamslamminCars we have an 09 Legacy that’s my mothers she bought it new it has 300k+ miles on it without needing headgaskets or anything but maintenance, and it’s definitely normal my 2014 has had oil changes every 3k miles I even paid to have it diagnosed it’s very common on the FB Series 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engines, yours might be a little louder than mine though
I can most definitely do this. I drove my 79 Jeep CJ5 on this same trip and had to make small repairs the whole way home. Wish I had recorded that drive.
Amsoil. Comes right to the house free shipping. No BS trying to find oil at the store and they are out of stock or not enough jugs of the blend you need. Cheap oil has less additives and can cause sludge build up. I change my oil every 5,000 miles and run my stuff a long time. It’s nice getting everything from diesel oil to mix oil for the weed wacker shipped right to the house.
lol, you’d get the same service with any brand. Oil is oil. Gasoline is gasoline. Ibuprofen is ibuprofen. The different brands are far more similar than they are different.
I had a 2014 Outback that would shake (felt like the car was going to shut off) when I apply the brake after a cold start. After about 10-20 minutes, the car ran and stopped perfectly. If I put the car in neutral as I'm about to brake, it wouldn't shake as much. Never found out what the problem was. Traded it for a 2024 OBW.
All this abundance is designed to confuse you and create a false reality for you. All these oils are garbage for the engine. They hide from you the single-grade oils that are the best and most natural for the engine. Research this, and I have something else to tell you, if you want to keep your engine in the best condition, you must solve 4 problems that end engines by deleting the EGR and PCV VALVE, use single-grade oils according to the ambient temperature, not according to what the manufacturer says, and use only distilled water in the cooling system. Antifreeze is only used at freezing temperatures, not at all temperatures, it's a business trick to steal your money, the manufacturers are looking for profitability and not reliability, that's why they also put EGR in the engines and multigrade oils are the silent killers of the engines
I changed from 0W20 to 5w30 on my daughters 2012 Imprezza and the change was like night and day it went from a noisy rattletrap to a smooth running car overnight,I don't care if I lose 1 or 2 mpg!
That's awesome to hear & the fuel savings might be even more minuscule than that. A lot of the savings were .7-1 mpg at best for Honda's switching from 5w-20 to 30. Not worth a self destructing startup, every time..
