My name is Scott and I work at a small engine repair shop as a mechanic. I specialize in 2 cycle and handheld outdoor power equipment. The videos you'll see here are actual customer repairs on that type of equipment. After the repair I'll do a voice-over to explain what is happening and help you to perform the same repair yourself. You'll also find helpful tips and shop practices that you may find useful in your own workshop. And of course as a mechanic I'll have to add some tool related videos as well. Later.
I'm amazed that it lost all three screws and the only damage was one broken fan blade. I think the breaking off of the opposite blade was genius. Like you said, the customer wasn't expecting a lot and was probably happy you were able to get it up and working again. I doubt the missing blade will ever cause an issue. Nice work
I pulled my coil, how many ohms should I get(my multimeter set to 20kohms)? I’m getting 1.68 from the spark plug cap to the metal on the coil, 12.8 on the kill switch (I think, it’s the little clip on the side of the coil)
I have one of these and I always wondered what it looks like inside. I've had no issues, but I'm going to check the tightness of those screws this weekend. Thanks!
I have a saw that doing the same thing, but if I open the gas cap, it will run. I’m wondering if I need to check those fuel lines and size of the tank or just go ahead and look at the carburetor
3/8 chain is .375 inch. .325 chain is .050 inch difference. Dont know why chainsaw equipment manufacturers come to grips with the fact that they should keep all chain pitches in thousands of an inch instead of using fractions of an inch for one chain size and going to thousandths of an inch for another size. Enough confusion exists in mechanical systems as it is.
Pilot error probably I would have took it apart myself figured missing fin was the problem I would have order flywheel I like your fix better the batterys are what scare me I could go on forever about that later!!!😊😊😊😊😂
Nice repair ...............probably would have done the same on the fin as a temporary fix. For $6 I think I would order a fan replacement as that fan cools the motor.
@PelicanIslandLabs You are correct and that would be the right way to repair this saw. Sometimes I get the mentality that I just need to get something running nomatter how. Thanks for your input.
When you first mentioned the missing fan blade, didn't ya hear me yell snap off one opposite? If odd numbered, ya gotta snap off one 1/3 around CQ and then another 1/3 around CCW. Then again, the fan is not cast metal, so maybe so light that out of balance would ot be such an issue?? I dunno.
You wouldn't think the scews viberated out (especially the front one with the bar covering it). They must have been taken out and forgotten... Great idea on the fan fix!
Hey friend got a question for you i have recently bought a older husqvarna the black label on the side says 281xp but someone carved on the top cap 288? Anyway someone could have turned the 281xp into a 288??
A common scenario is when similar parts are used between similar models, like top covers and starters. Maybe your 288 has a 281 starter on it? Maybe your 281 has a 288 top cover? The only way to be certain is to measure the bore of the cylinder.
For now, I have to slightly choke it to keep it running. Carb adjustment doesn't seem to do much and there's only like about a 1/4 turn. Guess I'll rip into it at some point. I need to go find and old 223L. Those were great!!!
I worked as a automotive mechanic since getting out of high school in the late 80s and really enjoy learning anything new , it’s challenging and fun , your organized approach and cool and calm is refreshing, I hope you enjoy what you do Man !
@@TheGreasyShopRag , thank you actually your demeanor and calm approach to fixing things actually was like hearing a friend approach something as a cool Guy , you made it fun , in my life separate from the chainsaw your fun and calm way of doing the video, I can’t explain, sounds weird but God delivered something through your video I just can’t explain, thank you and thank God
Thanks So much for sharing this.... I've got the same saw and this morning, got the red flashing triangle! I found your video and saw how to take everything apart... I tested the switch and it works properly, but the spring on the handle that is supposed to push against the switch wasn't holding in place properly. The plastic post that holds the spring had worn and let the spring slip to the side. I found a nail that would fit inside the hollow plastic post, cut the nail just slightly longer than the post, and jb welded it in place. The head of the nail will keep the spring from ever slipping again. Got everything back together and it works perfectly! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Remove the kill wire from the coil and try again. If you still don't have spark then check for a good ground beteween the coil laminations and cylinder. Other things to check are if the magnets on the flywheel are strong and the air gap between coil and flywheel. What method are you using to check for spark...because I assume thats what you meant by "no fire".
Scott, i was wondering as far as spark on these, have you ever had one spark, but not enough to fire one up. Or is it a spark or no spark deal? i got an old 223, im thinking the module is kaput. what is an ave cost for a module? thanks LATER!
An ignition module for a 223L is $90. Your spark has to be timed and thats controlled by the flywheel key. Check to see if it is sheared. When we check for the power output of the module its done with a tester that creates a 6mm gap. If it jumps that then it has enough power.
I knocked all the flux off a welding rod and then pushed it through a piece of fuel hose. Then I added the bends I wanted. Simple, cheap and effective.
I bought one at yardsale for twenty bucks needed lines carb cleaned diaphram fuel filter have seven weedeaters i know i need intervention i like how light it is always use non ethanol gas good two cycle oil good to go later!😊😊😊😊😊
We have one of these and it has only been used very little. It's a nice tool and we like it. Starts every time. The last time we used it with the telescoping wand extended and it was under load cutting a branch, the inner drive shaft seems to wobble around inside the outer tube and it made quite a metallic racket banging around in there. It's doesn't do it when it is not under load. When not under load, it seems to have a speed at which it will vibrates a little bit but doesn't wobble or make the noise. We did clean up the saw head, chain and bar with carburetor cleaner and put new bar oil in it but that didn't seem to make much difference to the vibration. It did operate smoother. Do we need to replace that shaft?
I hope not. The shaft assemblyis $300. The main shaft has a grey plastic adapter on each end. One of those ends is the lock for the extension. Make sure thos greay "caps" are fully seated on the outer tube.
I've got a 223r I got from pawn shop few years ago! Went to start it for first time this year and it wouldn't run good at all! I got a carb kit and when I took it apart I couldn't believe what I was seeing! It was completely white inside from water! I know it wasn't any of my gas as I'm pretty particular about it! So it ran good for me fir 2 years with a gunked up carb lol! Got it cleaned up new kit and now it's fine! My thing is I can't believe it ran with how that carb looked for 2 years!
How was the carb screen? Can you buy different common sizes ? I used a loose ball of aluminum foil to clean the chrome tube. Worked great. Another good video.
Its been nearly 6 months the last time I watched your videos, now I gonna catch up and watch all the new videos I havent seen in the past 6 months, thanks for watching.......LATER!
The Craftsman double box wrench made in USA 6-30 metric they resale for 800$ on eBay and going to go to 1000$ soon the order Craftsman are selling for more than snap on. The difference is snap resale for half original price
@TheGreasyShopRag - I've got a 450 rancher that oils everywhere EXCEPT the bar. I've confirmed the bar is clean, oils flows very freely - it just seems to come out all over the plate, clutch... but doesnt make it's way to the chain bar groove / actually oil the chain. I've replaced plate, tube. Any other suggestions? @KensSmallEngineRepair also - any ideas?
