Great video, These bottled in bond bottles started in 2019 with new batches coming out ranging in different age statements. The batch number is on the back lable. The newest batch out is # 5, and it's 12 years old. They have been really good through the years.
This is certainly a bourbon drinkers rye same with the 7 year. I haven't had any Beam product that was bad. I have never had the white label just not something I'm interested in. But any thing in the 90-120 range they are very good pours. You should put this up against the Russells single barrel rye. Apparently Beam also has a new Burrye out that I believe is 113 proof and I heard again its a bourbon friendly rye. Its a blend of the 9 year and 7 year rye. Enjoy!!
@@umami0247 I will keep my eye out for those… I don’t have the Russel’s rye… or the rare breed rye yet.. but now that Mike seems to be a Rye guy I will keep looking… lol
@@Cosmos_Mariner I still haven’t come across that one… I have an old pepper BIB…. That I haven’t tried yet… but I will get one of these when I come across it…
@@umami0247 I don’t blame you… but when I see a bottle I never seen before and at such a low price… felt like I had to try it… one day will stumble on a hidden gem…
You'll have to do a blind w 3+ Brl Prf Ryes; this RU 7yr, Rare Breed Rye, JD Brl Prf Rye & any others in price range. While not a Rye, I would also put in Larceny BP A124 & have you guys rate the spiciest palate.
@@motohead077 I like this idea… I don’t have rare breed rye yet and not sure if I have any that can hang with JD rye… but we have a low proof rye coming soon… I will pick a few higher ryes that we have and add them to our Sunday funday list … thanks!!
@@lesscashmoremash Nice! I haven't had the JD BP Rye, yet. Only had the Rossville 7yr once (just got bottle yest) & think it is right there or better than Rare Breed Rye, depending on person & the day.
@@motohead077 I am not sure anything I have will even compete with the JD BP Rye… but I will grab a few higher proof ones and give it a shot… any excuse to drink it works for me… lol
@@lesscashmoremashhah, yup.. No rush, whenever you get enough bottles.. Oh, just thought, The Knob Creek Rye SiB would fit into that mix well. It's 115P & usually 7-8yr & think it's 51% rye. Maybe Pikesville at 110P 51% rye.
@@motohead077 I actually added those two already… we have two different knobs one like 117 proof and one 127p…. Game time decision which one I pick…. But those were the 4 I added on the list…
Bought it on Long Island the other day . $17.99 and I've never seen it before in the tri-state area. I'm glad you guys like it. I probably will also. Thanks
@@michaelfoubister4339 won’t be the best thing you ever had… but was decent for the price..supposed to be the same mashbill as Buffalo trace… so trying to find an ancient age to put it up against… used to come to Connecticut but haven’t seen one as of late
I told you I'm coming up to Bally's in Rhode Island on the 12th of July. Blue oyster cult is playing there and I offer you guys to come you and Mike and I'll pay for your tickets. How's that? And I'll bring a bottle of ancient age up for you
After pouring juice for over 50yrs I don't get much from anything less than 100 proof, doesn't mean it is not good just what works for me. Good price on that bottle though, better than a bottle of Ten high 🫣🤣 Cheers 👍 😉 🥃
Damn, like you said $26 for 7yr Brl Prf American Straight Rye 117.2P is a steal. Makes me wonder if you guys mixed up the price or remembered it wrong. That's lower price than OGD 114 (in a lot of places). At $26 would have bought them all. Could also use it to make some great mixed drinks, I'm guessing. Only had it neat so far.
@@motohead077 no it is what we got it at… we do alot of hunting… and sometimes store mark down bottles for unknown reasons…. So when we see one that we know is less than MSRP and we haven’t tried it yet we snag it… that’s why I always say I have 100 bottles on the other side of the room unopened… had I known how good this one was I would have bought more… lol
@@lesscashmoremash Sweet! Yeah, think I heard you say that about your stock. Do the same thing, kind of, hunt for value. Almost every time (but 1) I go into a new store, end up finding at least 1 bottle that is the lowest $ ever saw. Though never find rare allocated stuff at SRP.
@@StevenScone we got lucky with the Weller… we had a local store with a store pick at a good price.. had to have Holliday brought to us from Oklahoma and for some unknown reason Makers and Larceny are not shipping to Mass like they used to… still in a hint for B524…. But if you can get them… they are all hitters
I'm from MO so we can get all the Holladay we want. I just scored a local single barrel store pick of the soft red wheat 6 year. Love the Holladay stuff! B524 was all over IL and WI when I went through last week, but yet to see it in MO. Got one for $55! Makers is easy to find. Saw a couple of the Heart series last weekend. No full proof in sight. Occasionally you'll find special reserve for a non museum price.
I generally do my bourbon hunting in both Maryland and Florida. I can find larceny and makers mark cask strength easily. I got my Ben H. Rickhouse in Colorado on vacation and have yet to see a Weller full proof. Great video. As you said banger bottles.
@@ScottW4631 nice…. And I agree… 4 excellent bottles…larceny B524 is making me nervous this year… this is the longest I have searched without finding one…
@@JazznRealHipHop which is crazy cause that stuff doesn’t seem to make it to Mass anymore… I know when my buddy went to New York he couldn’t believe how many wood finished ones were on the shelf…. None ever made it to mass
The now finished bottle of Maker's Cask Strength I picked up was like the debut single from the Runaways: Cherry Bomb. Hope the next one I pick up is just like it.
@@thomasanderson2870 a lot of people say that…. I on the other hand am a big fan… in fact if it was a smidge higher proof I would have picked it over the Weller…. I liked the flavor better on the makers… but since all 4 were so good in their own way i settled in who had the better finishes
Even at 13 years, 130 bones feels like a big ask for a sub 100-proofer. For instance, I could pick up a Calumet 15 year for the same price and that's 105 proof.
@@smknochs1 I hear that…. In fact I have looked at the 14, 15 and 16 calumet many times… since so many said they are great… but didn’t love the other calumets I had so haven’t pulled the trigger on those yet..
It’s definitely a great cask strength to have in the selection. There’s a bunch of them around $50-60. That new Green River is an amazing sip too. Great review guys!
I really enjoyed this bottle. I was surprised that a two year tasted so good. Apparently Texas bourbon ages faster than other places due to the heat (at least that's what they say). FYI, Nancy Fraley is the Master Blender (she helps determine what flavors are suitable for bottling). The head distiller is John Schrepel. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7uyqYCauiyw.htmlsi=d_TLmI5aFqVCBdK6
On what you were saying, I'm with you, it's not about proof, but flavor. Proof/alcohol can mask or ruin good flavors. Proof does not bring flavors. Think people just confuse it, because typically, most whiskey that has no water added (barrel proof) is higher in proof. Though that is not always true. So they associate higher proof with higher flavor when it's really, NO WATER Added = bolder flavor. Ex, Wild Turkey has a barrel proof bottle that is below 90P. (~89P). I would rather have that barrel proof bottle at 89P, than a 107P whiskey that was watered down from 155P.. Not to mention the fed & state excise taxes are only on the alcohol, so lot more taxes per mL on higher proof stuff. In MA it's $35.20 per gallon combined & it's higher in 35 states & DC + sales tax on all that.
@@motohead077 I totally agree… took me a bit to find the ones that have the great flavor at the lower proof… but now that I have it is nice to have that long finish that is all flavor and not mostly heat
@@lesscashmoremash there isn't many anymore at lower proof because the legal max barrel entry proof was raised from 110 to 125. When it was 110, most chose to barrel at 100, so imagine how good whiskey was back then. Now, almost everyone barrels at 125. Also, none of that has to be published by the distillery. So it's gonna be almost impossible to get that law changed back. The feds like it, because they collect more tax per barrel & the distilleries like it because they get to add water to the bottles and call it Whiskey
@@motohead077 I hear that… only one off the top of my head that I think I remember still does is Makers Mark… think they still do the lower entry proof… maybe why the carry so much flavor at the 110 cask strength proof..
@@lesscashmoremash oh, nice. not sure what MM barrels at, but would make sense that it's lower than 125 if their barrel proof stuff is ~115. They rotate barrels, so most are probably close in proof. Doing that eliminates having a single barrel program though.. WT raised the barrel entry proof twice since 2004. It's now at 115.. Heard someone say Michters barrels at 104, but they are not even a distillery. They just source barrels & maybe blend & bottle.
I am primarily a bourbon drinker. When it comes to Scotch I prefer a spaceside or Islay. The peater the better. At the moment I'm enjoying Buffalo Trace where to find cigar Buffalo Ten madero
I love this Green River Bourbon!! Fabulous! Love the proof! Wowza!! Great pricing although we always pay significantly more in Canada! Damn in BC we have a liquor tax. Not fair! Lol! Love your channel! Hey any chance of some single malt scotch reviews?!! 🙂
@@christinecamley thanks… and yes we are slowly trying to convert Mike into a scotch guy… lol… we have a handful in our Santa sack waiting to be open so we will try and sprinkle some in here and there…
Hah, just wrote about that liquor tax in the U.S. The fed liquor tax is $27 on a gallon of alcohol & each state adds it's own excise tax & almost all add sales tax to all of it. They tax the tax! Beer & wine is taxed at a lower rate.
Been waiting for this review. Green River being mentioned with Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and WT Rare Breed is great to hear. This bottle is a winner. I can't wait to find one next time I travel since Green River isn't sold here in CT
