I'm Moto Mengy and this is my motovlogging channel. I ride a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour but I previously rode Harley Davidson motorcycles for 25+ years. I'll be posting Goldwing moto vlogs where I explore the roads of America looking for great scenic motorcycle rides, discussing motorcycle news and topics, maybe reviewing a few bikes from time to time, and getting lost now and then. Probably getting lost a LOT honestly!
New motovlogs will be uploaded every Monday or as often as I can. All comments, suggestions, and criticisms are welcome, and if you got this far then thanks for reading!
The gold wing is the most superior machine ever made on two wheels, the gold wing has the best engine and engineering. It is the longest lasting motorcycle ever built. I should know, I have a 1986 Honda gold wing interstate GL1200.
Hey Bud, I know this video is old now, but I may be trying to get a 2018+ Wing before long. I think one of the first things I’ll do is add crash bars. I just don’t feel like the tiny crash bars the bike comes with are sufficient to keep the bike from tipping onto the plastics…. What do you think? Good idea? You know I like to do the slow speed practicing…..
Gather round kids. It’s the Moto Mengy Hour! Time for some Mengy mania! Epic Pa roads. Heck the whole area you ride is on another level. Just beautiful and some untouched by the passage of time. I have cousins in Harrisburg and Lancaster. Now. How about some Shoe-Fly pie? What else you got?
I did the EXACT same thing on a very top heavy 1250 GSA while carrying a passenger. Came to the corner, went to put my food down, but the ground wasn't where I expected it to be. I found the point of no return very quickly....and went beyond it. I will carry that shame to my grave.
Great video 😊. Own 2016 Wing. First was '08 Wing. Owned a 09 Harley SG for a short time. No comparison to a Wing. If you don't mind me asking, what's your motovlog setup? Audio sounds great. I own a cpl Hero 4s & recently purchased the insta360 x3 camera. Pretty cool. Just need to filter wind noise and find better mounts. What kinda jacket is that too? Looks cool 😊.
After 20 years of Harleys, I got a new black 2023 DCT Tour last Feb, and I have ridden it twice the miles than my best year of riding any of my Harleys.
Thanks for the post. I'm on a 2022 R1250RT and I really love it. I will say though that unless you're a younger pillion it can be a challenge for my wife getting on, although way easier for her than the GS Adventure was. If I find a dealer offering test rides I'd certainly try it out. Thanks again.
My Cosmo Black 1986 Goldwing Interstate enlightens me every time I ride it from the day I bought new ... whats that tell you ... I have owned and sold so many motorcycles but I would never sell my wing ... Its the finest motorcycle I have ever ridden and keeps up with modern ones without a sweat ... I have ridden all the wings and the gl1200 feels the best to me quite honestly ... It was /is a special motorcycle ... New isnt always the best option
Great realtime personal experience 30k/33k mile video 😊 Honda says every 2 years for coolant change so are you past due for that and or waiting to do the air cleaner at the same time? Hope you shoot video while doing those two maintenance procedures.... I'm past due as well😊
Yep! I bought a new Tour DCT Wing recently. Took two demo rides and all i could say is WOW!! I had 2 Harley FLHT's and an Indian Challenger in the past. Actually, I'll say the Challenger has a little better suspension. But, the whole overall riding experience of the Wing won me over. I've never been able to ride nearly pain free as I can with this bike. The neutral riding position helps me a lot. I became a DCT convert in less than 5 miles. LOL. I'm all about a quiet ride now and don't miss loud pipes! To each his own. I still wave at all 2 or 3 wheelers and have a great time. Some of my riding buddies are taking their first look at Wings now because of my experience.
Good spot to pull over before you get to the Tennessee River Bridge heading into Alabama on the left. If you wait until the sun is setting you get some great pictures.
I had 3 Goldwings over the last 25 years. I want to buy a new one but I love the blue or red colours. I can't find anything for sale in Canada! The 2024 colours are boring imho. Maybe the 2025 colours will be better.
The Wing rides so good. It will be the best boring bike you have ever ridden or owned. Most like the DCT. But the 6MT is a much more engaging bike with a real slipper clutch that works. So if you get aggressive the 6MT is the way to go. Yeah the suspension is soft,,, Honestly to soft and no front preload adjustment. And the the damping and rebound are really poorly controlled through the modes. Even Sport mode does not firm it up. But the suspension geometry is utterly fantastic. The tech sucks and is horribly out of date with the navi audio system being pulled out of the tech trash can from their old cars. And the Bluetooth version was out of date in 2007. The paint is soft and thin and it has the worse air filter change in the complete and total history of the internal combustion engine. The frame is great,,, brakes like a last gen sports bike. It's underpowered but not drastically like a Harley or Indian. It's smooth and quite and easy on the body. They eat miles like a kid eats candy without destroying you. They are not perfect and Honda did cut some corners. Honda is not at any level the company they use to be. So don't pay Hondas asking price. Their not worth MSRP. Get one discounted heavily like I did and then you can start over looking some of the bikes shortcomings and enjoying what it is good at.
@@wingingit9493 💡♥️💡 I agree with you so much 💓 A lot of these people that built machinery bikes cars airplanes 🤔 when they died the quality went with them 😔😔
I owned a Honda once. 1981 CB1000C and THAT is the reason I'll never buy another Honda anything. not a motorcycle, car, lawn equipment, private jet, nothing. my experience with Honda was THAT BAD!

yup correct most who have not ridden a GW have no idea what its like. Took all the makers of motorcycles to add the 6th gear that they have all needed for years. But with the DCT you get the sweet O.D. 7th gear....... Most riders dont get it the a paddle shifter is more fun the pullin in a clutch all the time and not have a clutch to worry about at a red lite or in bumper to bumper traffic is sooooo nice. I love my 21 bagger and it is my last bike so I plan to ride it till the wheels fall off .... Da ol Turtle
@@David-yp4fl Hey David , Funny Question. lol Took me about five mins. after that once in awhile you may find yourself trying to clutch the DCT. It will go away after awhile..
It's the best touring bike on the planet. Would I get a HONDA Tattoo? No....but having both Harley Bagger and a GW...I love my Harley, but if you put a gun to my head and said "You get one bike"....GOLDWING before you get the "ike" out of your mouth on the word "BIKE". I've got 80K on a 2005 and 2018 GW and Have had a Suzuki too...other than "luggage capacity" the new GW is an amazing machine. Learn how to pack better and get a good WET/DRY bag and use a Luggage rack #problemsolved
So after only riding Harley Davidson bikes, you basically get on the Gold Wing and are a convert. I bought a Gold Wing last August, and I regret it. I did not have the opportunity to test ride, all the dealers said no dice. In fact, I did not even see it beforehand, it was still "in the crate". Mine is the base Gold Wing without the trunk, and has the manual transmission. I have ridden other brands of bikes. before and since. There are many things about the G Wing that piss me off. Fit and finish is poor, my saddle bag doors give me erroneous open indications frequently (even when empty). They also leak water inside when it rains or I wash it. The latches on the center storage and RH fairing storage are cheap and do open and close properly every time. Refueling the bike is a pita, if you try and operate the fuel nozzle at anything other than a trickle it overflows. The paint, mine is the matt finish in grey, looks like shit to me, would have preferred a gloss finish. Maybe I got a turd, maybe it could be fixed by a competent dealer, maybe it is just better if I unload this steaming pile and buy the BMW K1600 instead. The G Wing rides nice, the power is okay, but a bit low for an engine of that displacement, the instrumentation is good, the seat is good, and the fuel mileage is so so. As far as the sound goes, it is more of a Porsche 911 sound, the BMW K1600 sounds more like an M3. I do agree with insist on a test ride.
I love going never own one. I rode one never owned one, but I do own Honda motorcycles and when you walk into a dealer and you look at the tag on the gold wings or any Honda motorcycle, it always has a tag that reads best on earth.
Agreed! I walked into an Indian dealer last year and was asking about bikes. He asked me what I was riding and I said a 2018 Wing, and he gave up trying to sell me anything at that point, even said out loud "ah, so you aren't looking to buy then"! He knows! 😁
With the longitudinal crankshaft, how does motor torque affect handling? Like a boat needs trim tabs at high power, why doesn't a gold wing? A gold wing wheelie might be difficult to pull off?
@@user-wv8wn6nw9t I BOUGHT A NEW HARLEY AND MADE THE MISTAKE TO GO RIDING WITH SOME BROTHERS AT THE HAMASA TEMPLE SHRINE CLUB IN MERIDIAN MS AND THEY WOULD TAKE OFF AND LEAVE ME LIKE I WAS SITTING ON JACKS AND I STILL HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEM TALKING JUNK ABOUT IT ♥️
Nicely done! I did a solo ride from Natchez MS (MI is Michigan!) to Tupelo before I headed home to MI. Yes, 50 mph can get tiring when you're on a touring bike that likes to do 80! I rode my '18 Voyager 1700. I may go back later this year and do Nashville to Tupelo.
I have had the Gold Wing and a HD. The Gold Wind is the way to go it has a great engine unlike the HD that Pings and rattles . That way I stop buying HD .
I still cant believe how cool the Wing's motor runs. I never ever feel any heat from it, not even when sitting in traffic on 100+ degree days, its incredible. Heck the radiator fans hardly ever even run the thing runs so cool!
I have a Camaro SS Supercharged 6-speed manual transmission and love it. If I was to buy a Camaro today, it would be a the ZL1 Supercharged with a 10-speed paddle shifter automatic....and love it (even more). My 2021 goldwing is a Tour DCT.
100% agree with you Mengy! The Gold Wing comes standard with a Reverse gear, a slow creep or Walking mode gear and a Center stand make this a very easy heavy touring bike to manipulate in tight spaces and out of parking spots. All of which a good looking equally as heavy Harley or Indian touring does not have. I’m on my 3rd Wing. (84, 96 and now a 22 DCT Airbag). It’s quick, looks great and Honda reliable. Love it! People tend buy what their groups are riding and not what they would really like to ride. Like the Harley sales folks like to sometimes say. Not many will tattoo a Honda logo. 😂 Gold Wings are special. Keep creating Mengy Mania!
When I bought my Wing I thought I'd never use reverse because I never needed it before, but man is it handy. I wish Harley touring bikes had it, would help them out a lot.
I would imagine you and your brother have some interesting conversations about this topic. I am surprised that you have dealerships that will let you test ride one. Down here around Houston you can forget test riding any new Honda and I have tried. I owned a 5th generation goldwing and it just didn’t give me that wow factor. When the current one came out I thought I’d go have a look. I wasn’t really impressed by it. I can’t put into words what it is about the goldwing that I don’t like. It does everything great and like you said it has plenty of power and speed. I wonder if the NT1100 would sale better in the us market than the goldwing?
I hear lots of people who cant find test rides where they live. Honda is missing the boat here, they really should have more test ride bikes out and about. My brother won't ride my Wing, he's too afraid to try it out because he might love it! 😂
Question: If you bought another wing would you get the bagger version, or buy another with the tour Pak ? I only take a few long trips a year and I like bagger look…. figured I can always add a detachable top box…..Love your videos. I am just south of you so I know most of the roads you ride!
After a short test ride i was sold. By the time i was ready to buy, there was none to be found. After searching online i found the 6 speed that i now have and love. Three years in, i would buy another in a flash. The bike looks awesome and does everything extremely well. Great video. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Did you test ride the DCT or the 6 spd? I've never heard someone ride a DCT and then buy the manual instead, so if you did you'd be the first I'd heard do that!
@@MotoMengy , I test rode the DCT and loved it. A short time later I put in an order for a new DCT model but there was none to be found at that time due to the start of Covid. After 6 months of waiting, I gave up on the DCT model but found a 6 speed manual at a dealer just 6 hours from where I live. The following week I had my bike. That my friend is the story of how I ended up buying a six speed manual Goldwing Tour. I do enjoy my manual transmission but would buy a DCT in a flash. Ride Safe.
