Wow. Just seeing this video now, I'm quite surprised a lot of people hated this game. I absolutely loved it. To me it was such a completely different story and I was very engaged in it. The main story was decent, but the story of what happened to the Dad was what added so much depth imo.
I was listening to this in one headphone while playing Trails to Azure and was surprised to here the music used in this video, it's a great soundtrack I'd love to start hearing it used more on RU-vid in place of the usual Zelda, persona and undertale. Although those are all great too.
I'm halfway through and i don't HATE the main character honestly. What is surprising to me is that I NEVER HEARD OF THIS GAME! I consider myself fairly up to date on games and this looks like a semi-recent release, but i have zero recollection of it.

What happened to the monster that they saw the night that gabe died? why does that go nowhere? It is ridiculous that the big conspiracy is that they hid mining accident deaths? It's ridiculous for a myriad of reasons and doesnt necessitate a conspiracy but more than that for a video game it is so unbelievably mundane. In the medium of video games that has so many limitless potentials a mining accident coverup is what you come up with? Ok so i looked up a walk through and boy did you guys fuck that up lol, you guys got one of the worst endings, hence why all the conversations at the end were kinda lopsided against you. Now that is an issue with the writing as all the writing was focused on the better endings which require alot of side content to be done, any time you have free will you have to seek out the other characters and get those choices right or else you lose them in the end section, the two easiest characters are the two you had support of, everyone else you messed up hard. So while i understand the conclusion that the writing is trash and the premise is bad i can also see based on the best ending options that its justified in being well recieved since all the effort went in there
I like how the kid has a very real reason to feel guilt. That he was told not to go into the woods but did it anyway and Gabe died as a direct result of trying to bring him back. And instead of taking him to therapy explaining there is more to the situation and its not his fault they just try to distract him with construction paper hats and a LARP with a bunch of adults.
The "I'm from Wisconsin" line = it means he's NOT from a state that has the reputation of incest like Alabama or Mississippi. (for instance, there are many jokes about sleeping with your sibling if you're from Alabama lol)
Ah yes that 'its written on the box' fiasco. I rented my copy over a weekend from the local video shop. They used generic boxes for rented games. I had to go through every frequency on the codec until I found Meryl.

This whole story falls apart the instant Diane spoke out against the cop siding with Alex. She outed herself loudly to everyone that she’s hiding something. And that’s being generous to the OTHER many times the story falls apart here.
These characters have selective common sense when it comes to characters that should know each other. This is as, Yahtzee put it for Mortal Kombat, an idiot plot. A story that only works if all the characters are idiots. 😂
