@@staffsgt.retired8313 I mean.. I remember growing up playing MTA:SA and SAMP and even I don't get the joke other than maybe because of a similarity in graphics on a far stretch?
It's the characters and their interactions that make it great. The music is aaamazing, very memorable tunes. The story was very good compared to games of that time. I still enjoy it and will play for the good memories. They remade it a year ago and did a good job filling in silly plot points.
What the shit are you doing here Red? Love your videos btw, you single handedly made me thirst for an OP-1 which I can’t afford so I just made an album with GarageBand instead.
@Mychael Johnson Nah, the plot just seems contrived rather than complex, though I am sure if I were to be interested in the game enough I'd be able see what you like about the story. Games with complex stories haven't gone away, you just ignore their existence to so you can keep enjoying the games you liked. That's fine, just don't be an asshole to people who don't enjoy the things you do.

"On his way out of Nibelheim, Sephiroth starts a fiery warpath, burning Cloud's hometown to the ground. Cloud's mother, Tifa's father were killed in the accident." An accident? Are you guys defense lawyers for Sephiroth?
"Your Honor, my client isn't to blame for his actions. He was temporarily insane due to an intentional infliction of emotional distress due to the actions of Professor Hojo of Shinra Inc. Furthermore, the Jenova entity is the property of Shinra Inc. and the illegal scientific procedures to splice its genetic material with my client were clearly out of his control and perpetrated by Hoko of Shinra Inc. I motion for a complete dismissal of this case in favor of filing a joint class action of Sephiroth and the surviving citizens of Nibelheim against Shinra Inc. and their subsidiary, Shinra Research and Development, for wrongful deaths, property damage, and intentional infliction of emotional distress."

@@Gyrono Big evil corporation funds evil scientist because war is profitable and monopolies are even moreso. Also it's arguably Gast's fault since he found Jenova and is also Aerith's Dad.
@@mkielson8290 true but he wasn’t overtly evil. He cared about Aerith’s mom if I remember correctly and had no idea what jenova really was and thus how dangerous she was.
Huh? Is that a reference to the Northern Crusades? Because aside from that Innocent IV pretty much spent his entire tenure dealing with the political conflict with the HRE. Neither of those seem really comparable.
I hate Yuffie, decades ago I played the original FF7 for an immense amount of hours, leveled up all the other characters, except her. I always hated the part where I was forced to play that anorexic mannequin, yes, I thought she was not human but a stupid android made mostly of wood, which probably was my child mind trying to explain why they accepted such a stupid traitor in their team.
@@StrazdasLT Nah, you just have to say something stupid or offensive. You can be right and not be a jackass about it. But whatever helps you sleep at night, Sonny Jim.
Naw. It seems better because it's an abridged version. Playing the game makes the story last for many hours, so the story isn't jammed together in a few minutes
@@JW--dc8ri Hello everyone, and welcome back to Binging with Babish. On this week's episode, we are making the Korean BBQ plate in Wall Market from Final Fantasy VII.
I love that they never explain who Vincent is and that people who aren't familiar with the game probably didn't noticed that, after the part in the last abandoned lab, a random guy with a red cape started going along with Cloud and friends
I guess that's because he's an optional character, altough we do get to know a few things about his backstory, something about his wife and, of course, Hojo.
Some things - Cloud isn't really a 'clone' of Sephiroth, it was just an attempt to put Jenova cells into another person like they did with Sephiroth when he was a foetus. -They were chasing a shape-shifting Jenova that looked like Sephiroth, but the mind in control of it really was Sephiroth so it's not that much of a difference. It's just that Sephiroth's real body was all cut in half and not up for walking about. Because Jenova is a hive mind, and he was a part of it, he was able to subjugate the actual Jenova. His and its goals are pretty much aligned though so I don't think it would've minded. -Cloud never joined SOLDIER. He tried, but failed, and ended up just a regular old grunt. He still killed Sephiroth basically so I dunno what their entrance exam was like. I guess Zack softened him up? -Because Cloud has been merged with the Jenova cells, the comment about Tifa and his child being a Jenova baby is probably accurate, but Tifa never gets pregnant. :( -If they hadn't killed Sephiroth, he probably would've just sucked up the Lifestream like Kirby when Meteor hit, so they did do something. It's just that Aerith didn't. She died for nothing.
yeah it's weird because of JRPG naming conventions making it confusing, it also confused me as a kid, but SOLDIER isn't the regular infantry, but an elite military force where highly exceptional individuals become infused with mako. they could have named it something else to make it less confusing for a western audience, but by golly I guess they just thought it sounded cool.
Cloud caught Sephiroth off-guard and was in a blind rage cause he thought Tifa was dead. That's why he was so confused about how he managed to kill him. Sephiroth was just kinda walking out of the reactor thinking he killed everyone so he never noticed Cloud until Cloud had already impaled him. Cloud just got extremely lucky.
@@fumomofumosarum5893 it really isnt. maybe back when you where like 8 and had no standards. Playing old games like FF7 and Ocarina of time made me realize a lot of those games are only held to such high regard because of nostalgia and "muh first 3d experience"
Wasn't this a Japanese release dubbed to English? Still epic and one of the many hall of fame lvl games. No matter the writing. If u grew up starting with Mario and ended up one day playing this... it made an impact. Same as MGS1... I'd have to say it's 007 goldeneye for n64 level impact
Unfortunately I never made it past the last Weapon cutscene. Disc 3 had a nasty scratch. So after 22 years, I finally know how that ridiculous game ended. Thanks IH!

I liked it when you carefully and clearly pronounce the Cetra girl Aeris, Aries, Aerith. And did the same thing with Sephiroth, Hojo, and the town of Junon. And Sephiroth's accent wobbles between Sweden and Ireland.
Now i see why they made that great anime based on this game: Final Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 7. The plots diverge a little, but creative license is always a given when animating such a detailed masterpiece.
Fun fact, the Mako energy isn't just green petrol. They don't burn it. They distill it, then condense it with Fractional Freezing and high pressure vessels. The entire process produces more energy than it takes somehow, and in the end the mako is condensed into Materia. This is why there is Materia literally everywhere. It's a byproduct of the energy production process. They're more or less freeze-drying it.
I swear, this game's plot is exactly the same as a child playing with their friend and trying to one-up them each time. "No that was just a clone I was controlling so I'm not dead!" It's that for 200 hours, what a fever dream.
@@groundwork1962 at least kojima has a 2.5 hr cutscenes at the end of his games to explain the last 42hrs of game play. Im looking at you mgs4 guns of the Patriots.
Yeah dude, I’m honestly super interested to see how they try to do some of the fights from disc 3 and disc 4 in the new combat format. Some of those we pretty janky in the original using active turn based combat, I can’t imagine how weird it’ll feel with the new combat style.
ff7r is the first 11 minutes of this video, with a sephiroth fight slapped in afterwards so yeah it does get weird at the end you're right. Fun gameplay but god they need a new writer

Small addendum, Aerith was actually uniting the life stream and her sacrifice on two fronts is the real reason that everything survived. Mind you that sacrifice would have been completely pointless if Sephiroth and Jenova weren't dealt with
Avalanche is more than just Barrett's group. They're a general protest group with some more extreme branches such as Barrett's. Shinra's goal was to blame Avalanche/protestors as a whole for the plate falling, as if it was caused by the reactor bombings.
This is kinda what i mean when I say the plot of the game isnt complicated. But the presentation can be janky cause of 3 major reasons: 1) Dodgy translations 2) is fond of hiding infodumps in places you might not think of backtracking to or dont technically HAVE to go 3) Ironically, the "realism" of a lot of characters speaking authoritatively about a subject even when they might be ignorant or outright lying. Where as in old jrpgs you were inclined to somewhat believe everything in rumors and dialogue [not a blatant joke] was true. Because thats how you aimed the player at the next destination.
holy shit this is amazing; also i think something is wrong with the audio, it's crackling. Only happened at the start, BRAVO BTW ohh damn IH using Aerith's real name lmao
This narrative is a big old game of and then; So there is a destructive magic meteor, and then, the meteor injures the planet, and then, Setheroth flies away, and then, Coud is possessed, and then, he isn't possessed, and then, they find a puzzle, and then, they solve the puzzle, and then, the temple shrinks, and then and then and then.
Hey! At least Tidus isn't giving the bad guys an upper hand every time it is convenient, nor is he manipulated into doing the bad guys bidding. Her even rescues his love interest and kills her evil fiancee. And that's halfway through the game.
The Bad Thing about Tidus is that he's just Yuna's Imaginary Ideal Boyfriend and never actually exists... If you only played FFX and not the other games... Scratch that... He still is even if you did play the other games...
@@jasperreyes5174 But then, the Fayth tell him that he's more than just a dream because he was touched by Sin. Also, right at the end of the ending cutscene, after we saw Yuna doing the Tidus whistle at the ocean, a few pyreflies appear and he emerges. So in FFX itself, the Fayth are like "You know, those guys saved us from Yu Yevon forcing us to keep rendering his fanfiction, we ought to cut them some slack." And that was years before Square botched a movie and panic made a sequel in a desperate attempt to not go broke, or the FFX-2.5 insanity. @@centralintelligenceagency9003 Final Fantasy X is a world where a Nightmare can destroy the whole world... An Ideal that can atomize monsters is par for the course...
Wow, I honestly have a better understanding of the Ancients part of the story and how that ties everything else together due to the uh, visual aids, used in this video. Using Ceasar Augustus was particularly evocative for some reason. Seriously, good job guys. edit: You know, Squall is a huge chad compared to Cloud when you actually think about it lol.
FF games were always praised when I was younger, but as an adult I can now see that they were only popular because they were convoluted and edgy in a way that young boys would think was cool & "deep" (Target audience when I was a teen)
yup. all thase edgy teens working for dozens if not hundreds of magazines and websites praising the game as literally "The greatest game ever made." all those edgy teens that played the game as adults in 1997 all the ten of millions of people that played the game in 1997? wellwhatdoyaknowalledgyteensapparently everyone that has played the game and wasnt too stupid to not get it *YUP ALL EDGY TEENS OOPSIES* man. there are a LOT of edgy teens lmao
Hey queen just wanted to say that this was your best Expleened. I really like that you slowed it down, this didn't feel rushed and you didn't talk too fast/cut out too much Good job sexy
Promised land Open to interpretation. It's thought to be a physical place by the greedy, a place where there is infinite energy that they can harvest and profit from. There could be credence to what they say. For most of the ancients it was a place you went after you passed on, though this is only hinted at in-game. For Jenovah kind, it was made of unobtanium. Sephiroth realized Jenovah's ambition though, to try and reach it. As well as other Shinra scientists in Dirge of the Cerberus. Essentially it was thematic of "the way can only open if we sacrifice a planet's worth of life". The latter way of viewing it I believe is more grounded. I like to think of it as all of the above, and that Jenovah was just intelligent enough to know how to force the doors open wide enough to allow a living being through. However, she was never able to see this to fruition in her time. Sephiroth, Advent Children - "I will sail the cosmos with this planet as my vessel, just as my mother before me." It's important to note, sephiroth had no intention of reaching a promised land, he would rather be a god on earth. It truly remains to be fleshed out what Jenovah's true goals were when she landed on Gaia, but I would venture to guess they never really talked, and the connection to his mother was one born out of insanity. Finding out you have been an experiment your whole life, and seeing what you knew to be your mother (more or less) kept in confinement and perpetual experimentation would be a brutal shock to the system. It's important to note Sephiroth was a Soldier who fought in a war. PTSD is a given...the sequence in the reactor with cloud was just the trigger. (this manic and insane state also explains why cloud was able to get the drop on him, and injure him, as well as overpower him at least once.) When Sephiroth returns in Advent children, he's a spectre more or less. Same as every other time. It's as if his soul can't move on, and this is probably because he is not a part of the planet's life stream, so he has nowhere to return to ultimately compounding his insanity and infatuation with cloud, the guy who destroyed his mortal body. The guy who seems to be perfectly a part of the planet like anyone else despite now being a test subject himself. Sephiroth, Advent Children again - "I will...never be a memory" This is symbolic to me. It's the tone he carries when he said it. It's of triumph, but also hesitation and some remorse. He says it as if he wants to die. Every-time he comes back he fights cloud, and cloud "kills" him. My thoughts are that cloud is just putting him to sleep or scattering his conscious for a time, but he really can't die, and he feels that misfortune, and longs to destroy the planet or become a god to free him from the curse of un-life and the insanity that was his mortal life.
I'm so glad you guys covered Final Fantasy 7. Nice work boys. Hope you do 6, 8 and 9 as well. The rest you can give a miss to be honest. I'll forgive the other guy for his mispronunciation of 'Aerith'

Oh thank you so much, I allways wanted to go trough FF7 but these games have rebuted me for years (I finished one and that was enough). Now we have a nice video with the full plot
"That was 5 years ago...I don't remember" Wouldn't it have made more sense and been less effort to just write it to where she wasn't there? The amount of suspension of disbelief you have to do to believe that someone doesn't remember something that important, specific, and insane is...stupid. Especially an event she got a scar from, that sword slash. No one would forget getting sliced open and almost dying. Lmfao
She's lying about not remembering because she's afraid of what Cloud's reaction would be, since Zack was the one who was there as far as Tifa knew. Cloud's story was him inserting himself into Zack's position because of his false memories, when in reality he was the grunt troop who accompanied Zack. He didn't reveal he was there to Tifa at the time because he was embarrassed he didn't make it into SOLDIER.
8:12 the (admittedly stupid) reason is that Hojo thinks that Aerith will die of old age before they will finish running all the experiments he wants to run. Red XIII's species lives for a very long time. So if you combine the two, you get a Ancient who has the ability to live for over 1,000 years or so..................YEAH in the remake they retcon this that Hojo entertains the idea of impregnating her with Genesis or Sephiroth Samples.
