An educational channel, focusing on 3DS Max, Vray, Maxscript, Autocad, Rhino, Grasshopper, and Photoshop. I will try my best to update this Channel at least once a week unless I'm too busy with my projects. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave your comments below the videos in the comments area, or in the Community section. I'm a 3DS Max user since 2003, and a Vray user since 2008. I started using Rhino in 2012 and grasshopper in 2015. I started, seriously, developing plugins for 3DS Max starting the year 2016, using Maxscript. Currently, I'm part of Cleer Studio team: cleerstudio.com/ instagram.com/cleerstudio/ ru-vid.com/show-UCytMOFDKwBykmVAMfQjyiAw

@@nathanielpascua7751 If it's only off screen, we can trying an easy fix, just right-click the top white part of the Material Editor window, you should see a Move option, if you click it the cursor will change to the move shape, now click and drag the window inside your viewport
@@MiledRizk I was thinking the same thing haha, something that just takes the positions of all the selected objects and replaces them with not just a source object, but an entire group
@@MaxKnol-uz4vl Actually, the plugin i'm working on, will let you select target groups, then you pick a source group, those target groups will be replaced by the source group, and they will be instances. this is also helpful even if you don't want to replace the groups, but in cases where you already created many unique copies of a group, and you want to make them instances so that later on you may want to adjust the geometry of one the elements so it will be reflected in all other instances.

Well in Max 2020, the viewport configuration is the way to go for this. Try not to exaggerate with this setting, specially with very complex scene with a lot of high quality textures. The Realisatic Materials with Maps setting exists in 2020, but unfortunately it will produce white material in the viewport.

Hi, this is plan B of course when everything else fails. But, you can separate the object, and make it like the original file by going to the Element sub-object level, selecting the elements, and using Detach. All unique objects in the original file will be elements in this single imported mesh. The only way to avoid all this, is, if it's possible to fix the obj file from the software it was created in. But, I guess in most cases it's not possible.
@@MiledRizk I tried but exporting from Giant editor makes all elements already detached at faces level, so for dens poligon models it's an impossible task. I was trying to make custom collisions for a cehicles with 3 configurations.
I personally don't use Giant Editor, so i cannot advice on the exporting options in that software. Obviously, the vertices are not welded in the Obj file. Maybe there are some settings you need to modify, or maybe trying a different format, like fbx, it that's possible.
@@MiledRizk The problem it's that Giants Ed doesn't have export options, and Max can't load i3d files. Now i'm stuck with errors in the fillvolume, it keep saying to simplify the mesh and that miss a plane in the bottom. It's manifold, it can't be open or missing anything. Why it have to be so stubborn?
@@IllGib instead of one complete obj, can you create multiple obj files, with fewer objects in each file? Maybe this will simplify the import process in Max 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for pointing out this extremely weird 3ds max behaviour. Personally, I've been working with 3ds max since 1996 (no vray at that time, but I mean, I know almost all the bugs that max and Vray have had during their development) but I can guarantee you that I've never experience or even heard of such bug before.
Yeah, i faced this is issue with Max and Vray many times before, in older versions, and i was always lazy to deal with it, i was just deleting the vray sun, get pissed from Max for few seconds, and continue. Two days ago it happened again and i decided to really inspect it and do many tests to see when and why it happens. Thank you for the comment. :)

Hi, is your object part of a group, or is it part of a hierarchy(linked to another geometry in a parent/child relation)? Is so you need to take your object out of these kind of relations.
Hi, in the Section Parameters rollout, Section Extents group, make sure Infinite is checked(this is the default). Move the Section object up and down, you need to see the yellow outline around the objects in the scene, this indicates that the Section plane is passing through at least one object. If it doesn't pass through any geometry then the Create Shape button will be inactive.
If you have any requests, suggestions, please leave them in the comments area, thank you. Note: at minute 7:56 when i opened the Detach dialog box, the better choice is to check the option Detach As Clone, as this will keep the original polygons and create a separate copy from them as new object, sorry for that.
It's hard to know without seeing the geometry, but, what if you try to convert it to Editable Mesh, does it work better? also, the 3D geometry that you're trying to project onto, does it have some subdivisions where the 2D is projected, or it's just one polygon? if it's only one polygon, this will make it a bit hard for Max to create the Edit Poly topology. These are some quick ideas, but there are maybe other things.
Just make sure it's a clean shape, no edges overlapping, closed, no self-intersections anywhere,... You can draw a 2d shape in Max and do a test to see that it's the autocad shape that's causing the issue.
I made plate for pizza. Very close to camera, so used turbo smooth. Center vertex is annoying when using lathe+turbo smooth. I left small hole there. 🫣
Hi, i recommend you to add an edit poly modifier after the Lathe, create the necessary edge loops to control the degree of smoothness, and the start/end of the smooth transitions, then add the TurboSmooth. You can check out my two tutorials on TurboSmooth to use it correctly.

Thank you for great tutorial. Is it possible to exclude the object so in perspective veiwport it won't be used as a center of rotation when I pan/zoom/rotate?
Welcome! glad you liked it. For the orbit thing, in the bottom right corner you have an Orbit flyout option, click and hold and you'll see multiple orbit options. The first one is for orbiting around the scene center, basically, the center of the viewport where you're currently at, and the second will orbit around the selected object/objects, the third one is for orbiting around sub-object selection, and the fourth will let press the middle mouse button over a certain geometry and while holding the ALT key you can orbit around that specific object.
I have a problem the material editor doesn't open The window is there but the maximum button isn't working So I can't open it Can you please solve my problem 🙏 I think it might be similar to this problem
Hi, glad you liked the channel, thanks! Now, for the macroscript, I didn't understand what are you asking for, can you be more clear. I don't remember that I posted something like that.
Hello. Tell me how to solve the problem with scaling the selected object (this problem did not exist in older versions of Max). The essence of the problem is that if I am in the "Editable Poly" mode when editing, for example, vertices, and I have several vertices selected, then it zooms along the selection of these vertices perfectly (selected vertices fill the entire screen). But if I deselect the vertices (no vertices are selected, but I am still in the mode of editing the vertices of this object), then the zoom on the selected object does not work on the selected object, but on the entire scene. In earlier versions of Max, if the vertices of an object are selected, it zooms over them; if the vertices are not selected, it zooms over the specifically selected object, and not the entire scene. Thanks in advance!
Hi, I was inspecting this, and you're right. I'm using max 2023 and I have this issue. On my old laptop I still have the 2020 and here this problem doesn't exist. It's crazy how autodesk screws up simple things. This is what happens when you have a monopoly like that! crazy. I can create a script to overcome this and the user can create a shortcut for it. But I'm thinking to upgrade to max 2025 soon, maybe this issue is not there anymore. We'll see
@@MiledRizk Thank you friend! Of course, there is a button "Isolate selection" but it hides all other objects, which is also unacceptable. Let's hope the developer fixes this and other mistakes. Thank you very much for your answer!
Im using Autocad 2024 and 3ds Max 2024. I tried but its saying "Nothing to paste..." It didnt work. Edit: Autocad and Max are both open and i just copied simple autocad objects by Ctrl+C
Hi, it's strange, but i suggest first you check where AutoCAD saves its temporary drawing files: right click the command line and choose Options, click the first tab labeled Files and scroll down to where it says: Temporary Drawing File Location, here check if it points to this path: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp
In addition to my suggestion in my first reply, if the AutoCAD correctly points out to the right path I mentioned, maybe try to delete everything in that Temp folder and try again(this should not be neccessary, but maybe it helps)
@@MiledRizk As a 3ds beginner, thanks so much. I myself created tons of autocad vlisp routines for personal use. I just love automations and shortcuts. :)

Note: two things i forgot to mention in the video: 1- When picking targets, you can cancel by pressing the Escape button and start picking again. 2- When picking target objects, if you click on an object that is part of a group, the script will only consider the single object that is under the mouse, and not the whole group.
Thanks! Long time user here. I've no idea why 3ds Max is becoming worse and worse. I prefer older versions which just did what it was supposed to do. Sigh.
Autodesk became a monopoly, no real competition, so they became lazy, many bugs, slow developments, adding bits of features with every version to sell them, not responding to many users requests for simple stuff, because they like the users to buy other softwares they owned that have these features, for example making 2d drawings easier, or maybe improving the Nurbs system that is still the same since i started using max in 2002,etc,...
@@MiledRizk Ah yes, NURBS. I've not heard that in a long time. I started using it from R6 probably in 2004-2005. Yes, I agree rather than cleaning up the software they are just adding more "not finished features". I read Next is going to be AI inside this with just text prompts and it's going to be slower and slower and almost non-usable. And the blender is becoming bigger and bigger with excellent features. As a 3dsMaxer I hate to see Blender win everything but they are becoming cleaner, better, and improving with every feature while this as you implied is getting fatter and fatter.
Hi, thank you for using the script. Here is a video i made that shows you how to install and create a button for the script: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kvaAY8TCRdo.htmlsi=u63IaStWkKXXeQgb
