We don't like having screens on the windows, because we like to look out of the windows, greet people and see the world not through a filter. It is more important to us than a few insects.

Thanks to all those who want to learn the Italian language. Until a year ago I believed that few people in the world studied the Italian language, however, upon inquiring, I found that this is not the case. Thanks again to all of you. This language is not easy but your "teacher" speaks it very well. Greetings from Italy, I live about 40 kilometers from Florence (about 25 miles).

This is just ridiculous…… Italians, are well educated people. They don’t stare at nobody. Italy is an over 2000 years old culture. That speaks for itself. I don’t see what’s so shocking about Italy? And if I am not wrong, America was discovered by an Italian. Americo Vespucci , but correct me if i’m mistaken.
@SheaJordan
@SheaJordan День назад
Italians stare. Other Italians in the comments have even confirmed it. It doesn’t mean you aren’t well educated. Also, a culture “shock” just means things that surprise you about another country. Shock maybe is a strong word, it’s not like I screamed in fear when I saw that shops close in the afternoon. It’s just a fun video sharing some differences between my life here in Italy and the US, it’s not that deep.

Yes turn off a/c use a fan while sleeping. Open windows (with screens) at night. I have security screen doors on all my doors so I can leav3 the doors open at night. The house is nice and cool all night and into the morning.

Minute 13:35 - Yes. I do everything online too in Italy, but I'm Italian so I have the "codice fiscale" and that's required for pretty everything to be done online. Thus yes, we should find a way to make it doable for not Italian people... some way to give a temporare unique code to access your services online
@SheaJordan
@SheaJordan День назад
Yeah, I do actually have a codice fiscale, but I don’t have a SPID. I was able to transfer my water bill online, by sending an email. But for some reason the other things had issues so I had to go into offices to correct them and talk to someone about why I couldn’t do the transfers or set up service. In fact, I have to go back again because something is still wrong with my trash bill… it never ends 😭

Minute 11:55 - In Rome I did my electrical service and my internet service online, without going to any office. Maybe for you it's because you don't have an Italian "Codice fiscale" and that's it's surely an issue, but for an Italian you can do pretty everthing online

Sono italiano. Dopo 6 secondi scrivi e pronunci “ Bolognia “ anziché “ Bologna “ .

I agree about A/C, screens which I think it are just common sense stuff in the 21st century. There are a lot of fallacies such as wet hair and neck issue or catching cold if you sit in between two windows or in front of A/C! People are told those baseless things from the moment they are born and without critically thinking about them people grow up and mouth what they are told since childhood and they put the same false things in their children too. With global warming most parts of the world are going to require some type of A/C. If they do not like to have the A/C blowing in their face, well they should not sit in front of it or change the direction of the vents. Also for those who get sick with A/C, I think they may not be maintaining their A/C properly, such as changing the air filters more frequently, depending on how polluted is their city/town, and/or the season. Maybe you can put Recycle service and Internet in your rental contract and pay the trash fees to your landlord and let him/her do the legwork, that is what I would do. Most infrastructure items you referenced in France, Italy or spain and definitely Germany are decades behind countries like Ukraine, Netherland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway or US. Each country has its weird things, just like we have them too in US😊

Ciao!

I loved this video!! Ok the screens…when I went to Italy with my Italian grandparents to visit family the first thing I noticed the first evening were hordes of bats. Pipistrelli. I was petrified but thought surely the screens will protect me at night while sleeping. Well, no screens. So for one week in the month of June I slept with the windows closed and sweat profusely. Yes, while living with my Italian grandparents the entire summer, every summer, I wasn’t allowed to go outside and let my hair dry. IT WAS SUMMER!!! It didn’t make a difference, they said I would get sick. Oh yes…the draft! My Italian Grandpop always wore a towel or piece of material/shawl like thing whenever he felt a draft…even in his own house! No one else could feel it but he could. And yes, we are hypochondriacs! My Grandpop rarely got sick but if he felt a little under the weather he always asked who got him sick. As you said Shea, there are so many more cultural differences and it would take forever to mention them. But I will always remember the happiness, love and joy they gave to me and my cousins our entire lives. We will never forget them and always talk about them. They were a precious gift from God and I adored them❤️

I am albanian and a lot of us share the same sentiments as italians when it comes to air conditioners or going out with wet hair when it’s cold out. I drive my husband crazy because l won’t let him turn on the ac even in hot days. And yes, l do wake up with sore throat and congestion if l do sleep with the ac on. No placebo effect here. Regarding the staring 😂 I get it. It’s a thing in southern Europe and l believe it has to do with being aware of your surroundings and others in it.

Your italian pronunciation is amazing ❤ The specific word for the stiff neck thing you’re talking about is “cervicale” and it’s a real thing, honest! 😂 Joking aside, many italians don’t actually believe cr@p like “if you go out with your hair wet you’ll get sick” etc. What happens here is that if - Heaven forbid! - you get sick, whatever the reason, and somebody saw you days before with your hair wet, it’s gonna be a hell of “a-ha! Told ya!” by parents, relatives, friends, you name it, and you don’t wanna listen to all that yadda yadda while you’re trying to figure out how not to drown in your own mucus 😂

Hi, I saw this video and another one, I have understood everything, but when I watch on RU-vid a piece of an American serie or movie I understand almost the 40% of what the say. So my question is: in your videos do you speak slowly than when you are whit an American? I apologize for mistakes, I'm not so good when i write in English, and as an Italian I'm happy that you like Italy. ❤

Interesting points, but staring at people isn't really something I've noticed in Turin. Bureaucracy is clearly a huge problem, as is people not queueing, but I feel that doesn't represent all italians, but a good half (and the other half of us are pissed off about this type of thing). yeah AC is not big here, you get used to it and it's more eco friendly. I still haven't figured out the AC/aches thing, and I'm a physiotherapist, so supposedly I should know, however I find that it's true that if AC or even just a fan is blowing directly ON you, it tends to make you wake up stiff, which is entirely plausible considering that muscles tend to tense up in cold air, but would that actually make you ILL: of course not. Also may be some genetic factors here. Eating depends, we hardly ever eat pasta in my family, and I know a lot of people who don't really eat pasta that much. If I may, the problem with your take is that it doesn't take into account the huge differences between different Italian regions, so it might be better to not extend your impressions to all Italians.

For those who are nostalgic of small shops run by families, please remember that, before the opening of supermarkets in Italy, (in the 60s and early 70s) those small shops had incredibly high prices, and workers’ families couldn’t afford them. It was like working to make those owners rich, which was very unfair. We can’t go back to small shops, luckily. Now large scale distribution can assure lower prices.
