Just got my Futur and a 1967 Gillette Slim. Both are more aggressive than my Rockwell 6c. Did 1/2 with the Gillette set on 1 and opened up to 6 of 9 on first pass. Started Futur closed up all the way. Was still more aggressive than my others. Got BBS with both with 3 pass shave. Slight burning with Futur and less with Gillette. Effect was like my 6c. Gillette and Future adjustable on the fly but slower adjust with 6c. All fine shave. Thanks for the video. Good job.
I considered a Futur for a while but my R41 has the aggressive needs covered, my Fatip Piccolo OC covers the mid-range and my Rockwell 6S has the milder end covered. So, no need for anything else although I might get the R41GS later.
I would think it would be much easier to completely clean all of the Rockwell 6C because it’s a three-piece razor and you could get to every area of the razor.
I have had the Futur as a daily shaver for the last 5 years. It is very aggressive and it will cut you if not careful, especially under the nose and nostrils. That being said, its very efficient when properly used. Blades like feather, personna rapira or Nacet are better on no more than 3 on the dial. Wilkinson, voskhod can be cranked up to 5. Your mileage may vary.
From my understanding, the Persona Platinums are formerly Israeli Reds. These are tied for first place with my Gillette Yellows. I bought 400 of these recently; I didn't want to be caught off guard as I was with the Israeli Reds. I have tried a lot of blades, and these two are the top of the food chain for me!
Enjoying your videos for over a year now, very curious if you have experienced rusty water coming out of your R89 twist ? When I flick my down into the sink without the top cap on (have to do this fairly hard downwards swinging), brown rust comes out of the thread hole, I belive the mechanism inside is corroding even though I've dried it properly in the 1.5 years I've owned it. Trying to see if anyone else has this problem ! Cheers thanks
my Grandfather's Gillette Bulldog Razor in a green canvas pouch with mirror He had from WW1 heavy well made it glides on the face smooth shaver adjust the head a little adjust the shave angle of the shave is a clone $40 CHEAP Muhle r89 safety razor WITH Muhle r89 HEAD ONLY WITH IKON HANDLE better shave wheelchair Larry
Thanks for doing this video. I am finally going to switch to DE razors and I was torn between which of these models to try. It's not a huge amount of money, but it isn't nothing either. I think after everything I've read and your test, I'm going to go with the R89 Twist.
@recordspinner94 I got the R89 Twist. I am liking it so far. It is a very forgiving razor. I have a tendency to rush the process, but I have yet to nick myself. It gives a very close shave with Personna blades. It has a fair amount of heft, and is just the right length (for me).
my 29mm Simpson T3 Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hair brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair can, cheap to buy, i have owned it for 5 years with know problems wheelchair Larry
i bought this razor thanks to your video on it! cant wait to try it on! also i subscribed hope you start making videos again sometime, you really have funny humor
Nice video! I am about to buy the Edwing Jagger DE 86 or 89 as my first safety razor. I also thought to get the omega 10066, a cheaper option brush, but this of yours looks so good I’m gonna do a little more research.
It’s shocking to me the progress comes with no instructions about aligning the top cap & base plate. Had I not already known it’s easy to install the top cap wrong and have it not work properly. The Parker variant as we know is a evolution/copy & comes with details about alignment of the top cap & bottom. I was hoping the finish on the progress would be better. The button Of the base plate where the logo sits is very rough. I know you don’t see that while shaving but they could do better on the finish. When you compare to an Edwin jagger de89 for half the cost the finish is much nicer. Critiques aside the progress is still a nice razor & had a classic nostalgic look. I enjoy the short handle. The knob makes it easy to hold for ATG or rest on the pinky.
hello sir can u do a razor head comparison between merkur futur vs rockwell 6c? I want to know if the rockwell 6c have bigger or smaller razor head than merkur futur
Hi Alex - new subscriber. I have both razors and agree: the Mühle R89 Twist gives a smother and closer shave than the Merkur 34c. Also appreciate your correct pronunciation of the names of the German razors - most wet shave influencers don't get the pronunciation right.
i feel ( for me) Muhle a little more aggressive vs Merkur, maybe it is a consequence of longer leverage (lever arm of head) and heavy weight. Both good for sensitive skin. I For me the best to use with Edisson and Feather blades.
