YEEEEEESSSSSS finally another episode, you inspired me to get back into collecting bionicle and buying hauls from ebay (sorry mate might have snagged a few lol)
I love how mysterious makuta was back in the days at school. Even with the movie out no one had the Makuta set back then and the movie was all we had to go from. I found him terrifying in the movie and he was always a mystery to us.
Been doing my own quest as well so definitely not helping in terms of bulk lot availability. What I have found is that compared to the amount of lots I've bought, very very few people back in the day actually bought more than maybe a couple of mask packs. I've bought lots where clearly the original owners like Bionicle a hell of a lot, but very few bonus masks. Krana packs I think were a little more common, but Krana-Kal and especially Kraata are almost non-existant in bulk from what I've been seeing, feels like no-one in the UK bought them, probably due to the awful RRP when comparing the £ to USD at the time. I remember buying one Kraata tub from John Lewis when I was a kid and having to do a double take when it rang up at £3.49!
Not much better here across the pond, something as glossed over as the damn Voyatoran (which I love dearly) goes for like 3 times the amount they should, let alone anything of actual value. As a Tohunga Enjoyer too it's absolutely annoying
Brilliant, what a great find! Ive also switched to Vinted, there's currently a lot of cheap listings coming from Italy, though the great bonkle finds usually come from the Netherlands. Looks like Hafu left his chrome ailver hau at home, but at least you already had that one. Cant wait to see the continuation of the quest!
Partly the reason I gave up on my dream of acquiring all the 2001 masks. I’ve loved Bionicle since being a child but I was already too late being born in 2005, I’ve always gone to the second hand market for Bionicle sets but I’ve never struck gold, came close a few times but someone always got there before me. As time passes eBay became less about people wanting to get rid of things and more about people wanting to make money. Either way I’ll always look, but it’s better to not be hopeful on the mask front, I still have very few. As always though, I wish you good luck on finding the rest!
Wish I could find good deals on Bionicle parts The cheapest thing I found was literally a Pirahka's Thigh peice and a single pin.....for 7 dollars....for two peices.. What the actually heck!?!?
new video lets gooooooo!!!!!!! also you are pretty close to getting every at the beginning there was (if I counted right) 11 masks left! (now I haven't seen the whole video yet but thats pretty close)
In the US things are about the same for big lots of bionicles being super expensive. I wanted to follow in your footsteps and collect all the masks and krana, but it feels a little impossible now
Had my own mask quest success moment last month. Made a weekend trip to my state captial and there's a fun toy shop that's often reselling goodies in good deals. They have a LEGO grab bin set up in an old cooler and they had recently added a bunch of Bionicle parts, masks included! I dug as deep as I could and in the part haul I walked away with a nice handful of Toa/Turaga masks, including the trans-white Kaukau. Cost me $5 for the lot and saved myself $60 or more! Keep hunting out there, the lots may dry up but the chances never stop!
Yeah, I don't wanna see bionicle end up like things like Pokémon where people come in to collect, not out of passion, but because they see them as "investments". Driving up the price and ruining it for everyone.
Babe wake up, new Brickthumb video dropped Awesome find getting a near-complete robo riders collection. I loved those almost as much as Bionicle growing up!
Matoro is one of the more interesting characters in the lore because he’s the first character introduced in the comics, he eventually becomes a toa, he has a moral crisis on how to use his mask, and he sacrifices himself for his friends.
Glad to see you back. Sad to see that ebay auctions seem to be dying off, but I'm glad you've found alternate sources for acquiring plastic crack. The "collector culture" driving up prices, making people horde parts and resulting in bionicle masks and parts becoming scarce is one of the worst things to happen to this hobby. I used to get lucky at local antique stores, but even those finds are drying up now. I guess all we can do is enjoy what we do find when we find it.
