Help please need advice on maps and lowrance isn't very helpful C-maps vs navionics + On a lowrance hook reveal 7 tripleshot. I'm used to navionics on my phone and tablet and love it what I'm wondering about trying the cmaps card that came with my Souder for now but if I decide I don't like it and still want navionics + is it as simple as just changing the SD card? Could I load the cmaps from the card into sounder memory itself and then stick in navionics + card so I would have 2 sets of maps?
Appreciating all the positive vibes! For those distracted by the glitch cuts, I'm incredibly sorry I didn't confer with you personally to discuss trialling something new. Please accept my most humble apology. 🤖 I look forward to watching your 20 minute tutorial on how to please everyone. 🤗
Hey bud you probably say in one one your videos but I’ll just ask here what kind of boat is being shown I think it looks really cool and would like to know where or how to get it😅?
Hi RU-vid.com/@GriftCo Hi have followed all your instructions to the letter, but when i install my SD card in my plotter it does not load the new charts. When I go Chart options it only has 'Lowrance' and Navionics. If I go to the 'files' folder I can see the SD card and new new charts but that is all. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
Nice work mate. I have modded the crap out my little Smartwave 3500 too. So good for fishing now. One of my fav mods was draining the rod holders to the outside of the boat, just above the waterline.
Really good quality video there mate. I just started installing my 27L plastic live well.. I am using a self priming pump so it will pump air. so no air lock issues. My bilge pump is already done. I am using standard quick connect garden hose which is cheap.
If you used your imagination just a little bit, you might be able to think of a way to use a Boat Buckle without welding, like 90% of use cases! Good luck!
Mate...just stop with the video effects, it's distracting and if it wasn't that I was looking on a how-to, I would have stopped watching. That "glitch" effect is annoying as hell.
Hey man, I love your build. I watched a bunch of videos from the playlist a few times, and I was wondering if you could answer this question for me; Why is your trolling motor mounted on the left of the bow? I mean, you mention that you don't want it in the way of anything in the video, but wouldn't it make more sense to mount it on the right? Around here, near Montreal, most of our docks are on the left at the boat ramps, so there is much more chances of damaging it if it were on the left, plus, since your console is already on the right side, it would kind of make sense to "clutter" that side first, so you have a much more "free" left side, no? Since your boat should always have the bow pointing into the wind, that would also mean that you could fish 100% of your left (port) side without any issues whatsoever... at least, thats my understanding in the 25-ish years I had of fishing.
Thanks for the video. I have a Lowrance Hook Reveal which is on the list of compatible devices but when I place the SD card in nothing happens and I can't select it as a chart option... any ideas how to use it would be awesome :) Cheers
Hey mate - not sure that "restore" is quite the right word, but modified and enhanced is probably closer. You can take a look at most of the process in this playlist if you were interested; ru-vid.com/group/PLQZL45l72E79BeP1eTBrgxQ-RV8w0bi0b
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Be aware before you buy a navico product. Navico changed there software from a simple system (sonar live charting) to this nightmare. Before this software change you could turn live charting on and off instantly no need for all that upload, download nonsence.
@@GriftCo not even in the least bit. Rivets hold up to the constant flex of a boat. Welds DONT. When a weld breaks you have to redo the entire length of weld. When a rivet goes bad you replace the rivet. That just shows how much you know.
@@ngirardo86, thank you for your input! Whilst I usually try to avoid reacting to deliberately inflammatory comments, you’ve somehow managed to strike a nerve but also I feel I could share some context that others may find valuable. Whilst I am not a professional boat builder (not something I’ve ever claimed to be) I do know a “bit” about design and engineering. Specifically working in the off-road automotive space for going on 8 years, with many of my designs that are entirely riveted earning tens of millions of dollars revenue. With that in mind it may be obvious I would be the first to praise the value of rivets, after all I have a reputation on this channel for being a diehard lover of rivet-nuts as well. You might want to turn your attention to the rear deck build video I did which was entirely constructed of rivets and connectors, no welding to be seen. Rivets have their place, and in this video I still use them. However not every joint could be made with rivets without making other compromises to the design; whether that’s material, aesthetics, function, labour/ effort etc etc. Whilst your comment does ring true, that rivets have an innate ability to flex, I could share with you my professional experience with the failure of rivets due to flex and fatigue of materials. Feel free to message me if you’d like to see how “little I know”. Lastly, I’d like to point out something you’ve obviously overlooked. This is a personal project, My own boat made in my own shed. I had a personal goal of learning how to TIG weld aluminium and what better way than on my own boat. If a weld fails, I get to fix it! Would you like to know how many welds I’ve had to fix? Zero Good luck Ngirado86, I hope your day is as pleasant as you are.
@@GriftCo you were doing so good and then you lost it. The part that you screwed up at was saying rivets fail from flexing and fatigue. I’ll share something with you…again. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper to fix a few rivets and MUCH easier in terms of actual time and labor. What I explained to you and anyone who knows anything about welding will tell you and if they don’t tell you this then they don’t know what they’re doing. When you get a crack in a weld the ENTIRE joint needs to be re-welded whereas replacing a few rivets where they failed and not the entire joint again is where rivets are king. But I’m sure you already knew that. My 22 year old Lowe 1256 is a testament to how good rivets are. That boat doesn’t take on a SINGLE DROP of water. I’ll take it over welded any day.
If you get the paid membership and choose to keep your info private do you have to keep paying indefinitely to keep your data private? In other words, will they make your data public on the social map when you quit paying?
I think it stays private! At least that's what happened when I had a premium account and saved the data privately, its not accessible in the social map and appears to still be private when logging in. However - whether the terms and conditions have changed since then is a different story!
Hey mate- they're still holding up without any trouble at all. When I get asked this, I do try to labour the point of the way I had constructed the build didn't rely heavily on the strength of the plastic connectors, as I had reinforced the joints with rivetted gussets etc. If I had my time again (and knew how to weld etc.) I would want to weld that entire assembly instead. A lot of room is wasted due to the 90° joint requirements as well as the thick 1" extrusions.
Hi! Is it possible to download the genesis map on top of cmap card map and improve it bit by bit that way or does it automatically create a new map that is just blank on those spots that haven´t been scanned with genesis?
Great video you covered almost all my questions i had before Watching. I just have one question? Do you have to pay Cmap the $60 something dollars a year to be able to add color shading to our maps or can i do it straight from my lowrance unit? I have the hook reveal 9 im not sure if that makes a huge difference in my question.. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this great video together. Tight lines 🐟🎣
Hey mate - and thanks for the kind words! I don’t believe the coloured contours are an additional cost from C-MAP, at the very least I did not pay for it to use on my Elite Ti2 units. If you can’t do it on your reveal 9, I suspect it’s likely a limitation of the unit, otherwise it may be a buried feature somewhere in your settings!
@@GriftCo Thank you very much, my friend, for the speedy response.. I'll be watching more of your videos tonight.. very well put together.. you understand your topic, great wealth of knowledge 👍 🙌🙏
@@aqeelismail7175 I ended up buying Cmaps card last week. I'm hoping I'll be able to figure it out soon, A friend of mine had the same unit a couple of seasons ago and said he was able to make it work with the colored contours.
Hello! I would like to know if it possible to extract the contour lines in a file easily readable in a GIS software?? I'm using a LOWRANCE HOOK with research purposes and It would be great if I can use this countour lines to create a model of the lake I'm studying. thanks in advance!
Hey Pedro, I tried a long while ago (5+ years) to be able to download the maps and try and convert them into an accessible file type but never got very far with it/ determined it wasn’t feasible. That said, it was a long time ago and things may have changed. Sorry I can’t be more help than that
I love the video, super clear. I have a SD Card with my CMAP plotter chart. I have copied the folders with the AT5 files on it and my Hook Reveal creates new CHART. I want to include these maps as a Genesis look on top of my CMAP charts instead of these maps being another CMAP charts. Is this possible?
Mate so glad I came across your videos. I've got my first tinny, and the more I'm looking at things the more I need a tig welder to learn ali welding. Such a neat project
