Casey (eBay Miniature Rescues) and Brent (Goobertown Hobbies) talk hobby and the importance of painting bravely.
The problem is that most people who start in this hobby quit within the first few years, and not because they don’t enjoy the hobby. They become discouraged, they compare themselves, and their journey, to painters that have been doing it for years and year. They can’t figure out a technique or don’t think that they could ever paint “like that,” and it creates a sense of unworthiness and fear. We are here to talk hobby, have some fun, and try and share our journeys in the hope that it will help you continue yours! After all, we are in this hobby to enjoy ourselves and have fun with friends. We want this podcast to be a place where you can find encouragement, discover ways to make your hobby fun, and most importantly Paint Bravely.
@43:00 It doesn't get better. There's cutting back on extra, but there's no making headway. I just sold an entire kickstarter's worth of the HOMM III models today, because they'd never get painted or played. Sad. So sad.
It has helped a lot! Before Too Many Games the kickstarter had around ~720 people following. Now there's over 860, and around 40-50 of them followed in the last week. And you're correct, 1k is the tipping point where I've been advised that the risk of failing to fund is significantly lowered. It looks like we're on a great pace to exceed 1k before the planned launch in March.
On the topic of mechs, have you guys looked into Heavy Gear? They're great for mixing and matching/kitbashing. Seems to be quite underrepresented in the RU-vid hobby sphere and think you'd both be able to make them shine.
I think I can explain the battle tech mechs, it is all about the lore. There are battlemechs that we first build in 2490 stand beside mechs that were built in 3150. Then you have the clan mechs as well so long and shot it is like looking at a commodore 64 beside a cool gamer desktop with RBG. The 64 will look derpy same Idea. Add to that they can be built by one great house and that particular leader wants it to look like X than the next leader wants it to look like Y with this stuff added to it. hope this helps explain the WTF were they thinking factor.. basically a bunch of people wanted there mech to look X way and over hundreds of years.. well yer.= cool or derp...
Can anyone point me to the Zeme game or "City core" company?... I can't find anything about this interesting sounding tidbit from the last few minutes of the cast... #Thanks!
'Many plants are green' - that is exactly the kind of unique informative comment I come to Paint Bravely for. Keep going guys. You're doing wonderfully
I actually fell in love with a lot of those derpy/chonky battletech boys while in the process of painting them... helps that I'm a mech fanboy in general. Also, Slapshot Showdown looks dope!
Most of the cool Battetech mech designs are ripped from 80s anime like Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Fang of the Sun Dourgram, while the derpy designs were done by some intern at FASA Corp on a napkin during his lunch break.
The first 12 or so were licensed images from Japanese productions. Everything else has been made in house for 30 years. Including some of the best looking mechs ever made.
I like how casey says "there are some battletech minis that look really cool like mechwarrior, but then some battletech minis that look just very derpy and chonky" completely missing that mechwarrior and battletech literally have the exact same mechs just renamed. anyway, I still agree that battletech minis are hit or miss, I just find this part funny
I'm thinking more specifically about the mech from the cover of Mech Warrior 2. I have fond memories of playing that when it came out. I got it for Christmas that year, pretty epic.
I get you guys, mechs are dumb. Any society that had the technological advancement to create mecha would be advanced enough to have tools and weapons of war better than mecha.
Not to take over the comment section, but if you're talking about Slapshot Showdown there's links to all my social media and the Kickstarter on my profile page on here now! Hopefully I can upload some gameplay videos on here in the late Fall.
I'm so glad you're excited! Stay up to date by following on any of the social media pages linked in my bio, if you want to follow development. I try to post new minis as soon as they are sculpted and I have one painted.
I second the notion of finishing the paint job on those sweet hockey minis and getting that rad guy with the mullet some free press! In all seriousness, thanks for the shoutouts! I'm pumped to hear we left a good impression and you guys tentatively are into the game!
@@Stickyickyslapshot I am out of Philly! If you follow along on any of the social media linked in my bio on here, you'll stay up to date. IG is the biggest community. I'll announce appearances in game stores local to Philly sometime in the fall, so stay tuned.
@@SlapshotShowdown I don't use any other social media but I did save the Kickstarter and bought a mini and a shirt! 🤘 I live in northern Delaware but I play hockey in Philly
Sounds like the con was not clear on what they wanted you to do and what they were offering. You live and you learn and know what to ask for next year if you go back.
@@GoobertownHobbies Best skellies I've worked with but also the fiddliest. After getting them cleaned up and posed in a half-decent way, I think I need a double thumb-ectomy. Excellent episode boys! Looking forward to the next one.

You guys need to watch Neverending Story. Just rip off that bandaid lol - such a classic. That movie likely kicked off my interest in the Fantasy genre as a whole :)
you guys have what it takes, just be yourselves and we will be happy. to be a good podcaster you have to be the kind of person your audience wants to be friends with. just be yourselves and we will be entertained.
this is now one of my must watch podcasts. these two guys are great together. it is nice to take a break from current events type shows and just enjoy some real geeking out.
The pizza wasn't that bad. But I also eat the hotels continental breakfast for 2 meals a day for 5 days straight. You have breakfast down in the lobby, then fill up 2 plates and bring them up to your room and stash them in the mini fridge until you get back that evening.
I'm a DnD gamer who has painted minis off and on since the late 80s. I've only recently gotten into wargaming minis. I really dislike the soft plastic that they make DnD's official minis out of.
I don't blame you! It's probably the most durable choice for board games and such... but it's not fun to paint a bendy (and possibly sticky) miniature!
