I don't really understand why "haafu" is offensive. I've seen a lot of mixed people say it. Isn't it true that half Japanese people are only half Japanese? I don't get it. Is it about nationality over ethnicity that is offensive? Isn't "mixed" the same, then? To be mixed is to be blended or not fully something. That sounds identical to me. Half Japanese, blended with Japanese, mixed with Japanese. The only difference I can see if that "mixed" isn't specific about the amount of contribution Japanese had.
