My question why would IBS suddenly start at 58 years old when there never was any bowel issues ever? Sudden violent long lasting diarrhea and IBS-C ever since. Is this not just gastroenterologist's way of saying no clue what's going on?
@nicoleperron3315
@nicoleperron3315 День назад
FODMAP diet is helpful for lots of people with IBS but unfortunately didn't help me, and the dietitian, the gastroenterologist sent me to said , there's nothing else. I did the 6 small meals a day and charted everything. I followed it religiously and can't figure it out because there's no link between what I can and can't eat in the different groups of sugars. Like usually onions and garlic go together well I can't eat onions but I can eat garlic. Bland meat boiled carrots and potatoes zucchini oatmeal and all dairy products are safe for me but any sauce fried spice cucumber and sometimes quantity like 2 pieces of broccoli is ok but 3 isn't. You can't eat anywhere because you don't know what's in the food. I already knew it wasn't lactose or gluten because I could eat that stuff so I'm eating lots of the same stuff

I would love a deeper dive into fiber. I had diverticulitis in 2017. Worst pain of my life except for a migraine I had a few years earlier where I actually thought death would be better 😢 And I've given birth which hurt so much. Any way, I have been eating mostly whole food plant based since 2017 and haven't had a diverticulitis attack since. But I also quit smoking in 2020. Maybe it's both. I'm not Inuit heritage and also had high cholesterol in 2017. I didn't remember how high but I was prescribed statins I never took because I thought I could control with diet. I've also been told by every doctor I've been to since that I need to avoid nuts and seeds which I ignored because I knew the new research showed no connection with diverticulitis. My total cholesterol is way low.. 150. I would love an in depth dive into fiber and who is benefitted and who is not

I've suddenly developed a problem with caffeine after drinking it for 30 years. IBS symptoms about an hour or two after having a cup. Sometimes sooner. Can this just happen to a person as they get older?

Thank you sharing. That must be difficult but I'm glad you know what you can tolerate and can't tolerate! If you're looking for a little kick you can try these gut friendly alternatives: paprika, green onion tops, or even chili infused olive oils (provides the essence of chili flavor without the fibrous parts that might irritate the gut). Hope this helps!

It's a Real long journey into finding out what kind of fiber works well. After a colonoscopy I found out my issues and Doing better in knowing what kind of fiber works for me. I have eliminated root vegetables except for carrots & broccoli, cauliflower works well with lemon and olive oil , black pepper. As well as eliminating Wheat 🌾 corn products . Sourdough bread on occasion. My inflammation has reduced significantly. I am optimistic.😊

That is great that you are learning what is working well and what isn't for you! It certainly is a trial and error process when it comes to certain types of fiber. You may want to also consider doing a short trial with a low FODMAP diet and reintroductions to see if there are any specific categories of those foods that are aggravating your system. Our dietitians are trained to help individuals through that difficult process! You can learn more here: www.dietvsdisease.org/

Magnesium citrate is very good to relax the muscles and helps you go. Drink water with it. For lots of people i believe work is the problem. Not getting a chance to go cos of being so busy or finding a free toilet at the work place or work being too public for people to be able to relax and go in a public loo there. Also sometimes if not good nerves cos of lazy bowel it takes 15 mins or so of sitting on loo to go but at work people dont have this time in busy jobs. For alot of people its schedule and work place that the problem Exercise is good too but sometimes doing everything right like water intake, fibre, exercise people still suffering constipation. Vitamin B1 is supposed to be good to tone the colon but only b1 available seems to be the synthetic type which is made out of amonia, acetone and tar. The chenicals are terrible ( toxic maybe) and can upset tummy. I think the kiwi tip is good and worth yrying but hard to always have available. Porridge can be good as a soluble fibre for gut.

Had a protocolostamy, cancer related, now too much fiber sends me to the hospital. By too much, a bell pepper is almost too much. It's a very funny thing to point out to vegans as well, lol
@Joe_Leech
@Joe_Leech 6 дней назад
Fiber intake can be tricky to hone in on since different types can affect each individual differently. For instance, bell peppers are both insoluble fiber and also high in the FODMAP fructose. So, it could be possible that maybe you aren’t necessarily sensitive to total fiber but certain types of fiber. Working with a gut health specialist dietitian can help you identify those specific triggers that can otherwise be difficult to identify on your own.

We actually recommend the low FODMAP diet temporarily so this can help us identify food triggers, sensitivities, and other issues. It's important people are able to eat from the largest food supply so they can enjoy food but also not get flare ups from it. You can learn more here if interested: www.dietvsdisease.org/diy-low-fodmap-diet/

Being on a restrictive diet long term is not recommended as this can prevent us from getting all the nutrients we need on a daily basis

1- Fasting is good , eating one time in 24 hours. 2- fasting for 3 days only water, green tea, and coffee. 3- fasting for one week. Only water coffee green tea. 4- fasting for 23 days just water. Every 3 to 5 months. It’s makes your body get rid of any illnesses or diseases.

Good information especially work out your food intolerances. I have had diverticuli for many years and several bouts of diverticulitis. Reducing plant foods, particularly leaves and flowers eg broccoli, cauliflower, other brassicas, spinach etc as well as many fruits and all grains reduced my inflammation. I can immediately tell now when my gut is inflamed…discomfort, pain, stool changes etc. Small amount of gluten free oats the other day caused a 3 day upset 😮

Great video. Stress is absolutely the somewhat hidden number one cause for gut sensitivities. You can follow a low fodmap diet to reduce symptoms but it's only a treatment and not the cure. The cure is to silence stress and allow the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system to operate effectively. Easier said than done! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
