These fish are able to move in ways that others are not, if you don’t keep constant pressure on them they will pop off, these are not drag screaming runs, they’re like walleye head shakes but much more vicious
Enjoyed your vid, hell you couldn’t disappoint buck he was excited to go fishing too. I have been hearing the same about posing the MNRF I heard some where so many you tubers now days, but your in a warm hut there eyes aren’t going to freeze, you we’re pretty quick releasing them and handling them Great job.. 🎣
Certainly a good haul, you’ll see all fish measured out of slot go back right away, only one way to find out if the fish is a keeper is to hit the bump board. I handle fish minimally and respect for fish I am not eating is of utmost importance. Proper fish handling and quick release times leads to the highest rate of survival and is always what I aim for
@@FishingTheNorth I fully agree with what you did, however, you must “immediately” return those fish, you cannot hold it up to the camera for even a second to show it, people have been charged, contact the Mnr, they will tell you what you’re doing is illegal. The law is ridiculous but it’s still in place. Btw, I’ve never seen someone hand bomb an auger without a handle😅 Buck is such a cool dog 🍻
@hogger1007 yeah I’ve never hand bombed with an auger before either and would like to never again 😂😂 was not fun but I was not about to go home. Buck is definitely awesome! Only a year old so he’s still learning how to behave but he loves fishing for sure!
Well done. The lake is coming along nicely for the pressure it has.Thx to the volunteers and people who do the job. safety never takes a holiday be careful out there
Absolutely! It’s a helix 9 MSI Ice unit with the mega live transducer. Since the new update it has been working fantastic! Nothing but good things to say about it
The baits we were getting them on were white Meegs jig with a white Mr. Twister Twister Tail on them. The other bait that worked well was a 4” white tube jig with a 5/8 oz jig head inside. Could tip either with a piece of minnow to sweeten them up too!
I’ve been there for sure! Started out just walking with a hand auger and tip ups to small back lakes and slowly but surely built up the collection of gear you see today! Part of me misses going with nothing because it was so much simpler 😂 cheers buddy!
@@FishingTheNorth I was thinking calander bay but still debating if I will bring my atv 4x4 , I have everything I need except live scope lol but is there any where I can park overnight don’t mind paying. Can you provide any names of operators on calander bay ??? Maybe they offer over night parking thanks
No problem at all to go out from the calendar bay government dock and park on the ice! Lots of ice now, 12”+ and it freezes right down to the ice in shallow there. No need to pay, not like down south here luckily!
Sorry, never got a notification for the comment! Sheg should fish similarly to Manitowaning, early spring and late fall is when the rainbow bite is most productive. Early morning and late evening and shallow water will be the ticket, all our trout came on a #5 original rapala and in bright colours, long line trolling with a solid leader of mono or fluro is a must with the clear water, vary your speeds! I know a lot of guys fish from shore and do very well with set lines too! Good luck, they’re certainly hungry out there!
Dude, stumbled across your videos looking for Burbot tips, I'm heading to Cold lake this weekend and I was hoping to try and land a couple there. Any pointers for spring burbot? Keep up the great work. Liked and Subbed.
I’ve actually only targeted them through the ice in the winter, spring time I’d look to spawning shoals and fish out from them. I’d imagine they’d be much like the winter, night time would be the time to get them. If that fails, target the deep soft bottom basins. That is my recommendation! Let me know how you make out! Speaking to some locals may help as well! Good luck!
Just found you I liked, commented and watched the video until the end so should stick at 823 do most of my fishing on RU-vid great video nice burbot and laker Thanks for taking me fishing
Thank you! Lots on the hard drives. Just need some time sitting down and editing. Just back today from a 5 day trip up at lady Evelyn lake! Should be a fun video
@@FishingTheNorth solid. Never been to that lake but seen some good brook trout fishing around that area in some lakes and streams. I'm heading back up to around hearst to nipigon area hitting some rivers before the brook trout season closes. Caught some 3-4 pounders in a small creek last month going to try it again before it closes.
Plenty of the smaller river systems have fantastic brook trout fishing! Sounds like you’ve found quite a honey hole. Regrettably, brook trout is a species I don’t target enough! Sounds like that will be one heck of a trip. Nipigon is on the bucket list for sure
@@FishingTheNorth Bug season was the worst I've seen up there at the beginning of July. The bugs should be gone by now. Definitely is, there's quite a few epic creeks around there that offer better brook trout fishing then some fly ins in the area. I'll be posting some footage of my previous trip in a few days before I head out.
Am heading to lake Nippising next week , can you please tell me where in the lake is a good spot to troll with bottom bouncers, coordinates would be great
Pick up the navionics app for your phone, it’ll give you tons of info on structure, depths etc. Not sure where they’re at currently, I’d imagine they’re off the first break or around, in the 8-16’ depth around weed edges, shallow flats, and possibly rock structure depending on depth
Just went out last night actually. Full summer pattern, water was anywhere from 72-76 degrees. Mid day in 30+ ft, sunset in around 18. Hitting on leeches behind bottom bouncers, good luck
Too funny, I was there a couple weeks ago. Next time hard water fishing head to far east end past the cottage on the north shore (my friend owns that) and locate about 6ft. Use an airplane jig, or whatever you like, and you'll clean up. Winter they like to feed in the shallow bays. Another option is to setup high in the water, and even a few ft from surface. Trout often cruise high in the upper water column to feed when not in the shallow bays. Enjoyed the videos, thanks!
@@FishingTheNorth Nothing more exciting than sight-fishing trout. Quick question: can you tell me the drill and exact model battery you're using for the auger. Thanks!
Yeah no problem, the drill I’ve got is a Milwaukee 2804-20. The battery I’ve got actually came with the drill and is the XC 5.0 red lithium. I’ve got it paired with the strikemaster lite flite 8” and drilled 30 holes through 29” of hard black ice on one battery just a few days ago. This is also on 2 year old, never sharpened before blades. Killer combo, extremely light, not cheap, but very worth the investment. Milwaukee also makes a ton of awesome additions such as the power source (has one usb and a 12v pigtail, can be used for powering lights or charging your phone etc) and the top-off which is a 175w 120v inverter! Some extremely cool stuff, I’ve got both and recommend them!
Foul hooking a fish is the equivalent of snagging it- which is illegal, therefore foul hooked fish can not be kept. If a game warden saw foul hooked fish, you would be ticketed for it. That is why they were released
Just popped first ones in my life this week on 4lb they don’t get super big up here put one in the fridge let one go Same shit every time I take someone … I thought you caught fish😛
Excited for the new Regis change! Will be able to do catch and cooks on the ice now, and take some home for fry ups! Fingers crossed for good ice on the opener though!
