While the Remake version surely sounds good, its just such a generic interpretation of the original. It really feels like this applies to the entire Remake. Looks and sounds great but lacks the uniqueness of the original that still sets it apart from every other game, even amongst FromSoft titles.
0:54 Tension and terror You finally stand face to face with the Great Evil. 1:14 Glimmer of hope Perhaps your for is not so infallible after all…perhaps there is a glimmer of hope? 1:42 Pure fear There is no joy, only terror. Now, be oppressed by the flames of hell, and be devoured by *Magnamalo* . Bad design, but utterly stellar theme and concept!
Penetrator new theme is a must since originally he shared theme with tower knight seem very weird while TK old theme feel like you enter in a battle against bunch of archers aiming at you and massive enemy in front of you. the laugh choir is more fitting due to "only the stupid one would go in against all odd" while the new Theme is more fitting as 1v1 in "David vs Goliath" feel
1:33 It clearly is noting a presence that is demonic, the dissonance created by the choir gives a chaotic atmosphere that exudes uncertainty and eeireness in a more folkloric way. Is still conveying a grand fight, but in a more sorrowful way. 7:35 It sounds like if blood was flowing in the air. The choir adds another otherwordly dimension, as if the entity faced was deatg itself, the disturbing nature lf the chords that build up tension, that could also be interpreted as the soul of the demon dancing a sort of "Dance macabre" with the player with yet again the eeire supernatural feeling. I think this example can pretty much sum up the messages both versions convey. I don't think any of the two are intrinsically superior, both just convey different things. Even Tower Knight's theme is altered this way: The initial choir in the Original soudtrack sounds eerie but misterious, as if the force behind the demon was of an uncertain nature, and there is an atmosphere of unease surrounding it. The very staccato voices could also hint about the clumsy yet earth shattering steps the Tower Knight makes, giving it a narrative dimension. On the other hand the remake version focused more on the scale of the demon: the arrangement is heavily accentuated and it gives the impression what the player faces is a mountain of steel. At the end of the day everyone has a different opinion, but I believe both convey their message through, and both serve their respective version of the game nicely.
the first phase is really simple, the start resembles andruis's cunningness as he watches over every step you do amid the mist, while the beat speeding up is him powering up even more to see if you can match him or not, while the second phase is simply ''you are now facing the glorious dominator of wolves andrius going all out'' and if you noticed when the music goes in a sad route, it reminds us that we are only facing the legacy of andruis, since he is now just a soul of it's former glory, truly a masterful music
I really love the boss music for phase 1. It really makes you feel like as if you are prey being hunted down, it's definitely on par with Prowler and Spiderman 2099 theme for me.
On one hand, I do agree that the remake does not fit the tone of the scene. On the other hand, I still prefer the remake theme in a vacuum, it still sounds good, but not every theme fits the scene.
Hopefully just pray to gog we get this beautiful apocalyptic nightmare back in a mainline game or maybe stories 2 M rank or stories 3 also a reminder to hunters and riders this was a LOW RANK BOSS
Always was a fan of when final bosses introduce alongside their music a couple strands or full melodies from generic music throughout the game. Oltura is by far the coolest black dragon design wise imo. Hopefully we see it in a main game at some point
Ok be for real now the remake is far superior. That old one wasn’t scary or anything it doesn’t even suit the whole vibe of the fight. It’s funny not scary or imposing.
Some are better in the remake like the beginning, flamelurker, and the one who craves soul... Some are better in the original like tower knight, maiden astraea, and Demon's souls(main theme) Some are good in both but has a different vibes, like the Old king Allant theme. The OG old king allant sounds terrifying and intimidating while the new one sounds more climactic and emotional. But some are shits in both such as the maneater and old monk
the remake is alright but nothing compares to the first one. The first one gives me a feeling of hopelessness, sorrow and despair. It truly reflect the situation the maiden was in and while the player had to deal with with her bodyguard it is the maiden which we were targeting (therefore the Antagonist). The remake ost put to much emphasis on the battle between the player and vinland. In my opinion way too epic and (emotionally) uplifting and shift away the focus from the maiden.
I like to imagine while the player and Kyle are taking on a world ending monstrosity, there's like a 60 man orchestra behind them playing this soundtrack
Oltura is certainly a black dragon after what we've seen it do to the world of MHS2 - It's an undeniable threat to the world, not just the villages. This dragon is a world ender and it was marvelous to fight. I wish we see it more in different titles.
Oltura strikes me as similar in "lore" to Dire Miralis. A genuine world-ending threat was a unique anomaly in nature. Only one of it ever existed and it was defeated by the best of the best. Especially considering Oltura was literally a doomsday prophecy. I honestly wouldn't put it past Oltura to be a White Fatalis level threat, if not actually higher. Clearly it's mastery of the elements surpasses even Alatreon by a significant amount.
the drum & bass in the first part is too good, sad that by the time that comes in i'm already in phase two. i feel like this theme could've been 100% shorter to match the average duration it takes to complete the fight
About Phase 2: The way the strings transition from 3:26 to 3:40 gives me chills every time (no pun intended). And then the flat at 3:54 really brings the piece together as is it keeps being implemented throughout the song. It feels very inspired by Vivaldi's Winter concertos and there's the piano trembling back and forth which spells blizzard, snow, wind, chill, fear. The violins then push towards determination and strength through that blizzard, but still keeping that level of anxiety. And of course the tempo also does a tremendous job at executing the "clock feel" before we even heard the deliberate ticking. Vocals then produce this other-wordly feeling, that you know you're facing a god -- ancient, wise and eternal. This is still my favorite boss music (besides Dvalin) in the game to this day. I really hope to hear more of this kind of music when Fontaine comes out because the piano with strings is something so classic and powerful that its hard to rival it. Absolutely love it!
When I fight him, I tremble not in fear nor by some matter of 'Oh god here we go again'. No, I tremble in ANTICIPATION, I look at this not merely as a 'Hunt' but a Duel between two Hunters. We both do similar tricks, his Gunlance-esque moves mixing with Switch Axe's Dive attack, the flames which serve as the ultimate risk/reward of his fight. (Maybe a bit much but Rise is my first MH and Magnamalo definitely struck a STRONG impression on me)
...Okay, I've bitterly resented the remake version of this song, but you've sold me on how it would work if used for a biphasic fight. Sort of like how FFXIV's major story boss themes are often double or tripartite songs. i would love that for this actually. thank u for showing me the way!!!!
i would LOVE a version with the slow theme placed in the middle, ending on the louder of the two remake themes. but that really and truly IS my ffxiv story-trial boss theme vibes talking......
