I'm gonna be honest, I get where people are coming from with their complaints about some of the themes, but this one is just a straight upgrade in every way for me, I am not a fan of the original.
I love both. Original version just sounds kinda sad that you’re killing these beautiful yet absurd flying beasts that have taken physical form through mass tribute and prayers and the remake version still captures the grandiose scope and awe of the fight.
Having not heard the original before, I now appreciate the new Storm King theme even more. The only song I like more than the Storm King's in the remake is the Penetrator's. While I'm here, I want to point out that how a theme is constructed, and what instruments are used, should ideally do two things: Represent the threat of the boss you're dealing with, and represent the arena. If a song only plays for one boss, you want to remember the fight itself, and the atmosphere surrounding it. The remake hits this concept to a tee, with the early strings emphasizing the danger of the storm, and the brass/vocals bringing the perfect feeling of dread and danger the Storm King itself has.
I've said it once, I'll say it again: If you took the original Stormkings theme and put it in a dark tavern in Zelda, it would be more fitting than where it is now.
I politely disagree. In the original, when you see that gargantuan thing floating above like a giant zeppelin, accompanied by this slow and... heavy theme, you can practically feel the swoop of air it pushes through, it's enormous weight carried by unknown forces... It just hits different. And seeing how Storm King isn't one bit dangerous as far as Demon's Souls bosses go, the theme of the remake really doesn't suit him.
@@borealsullivan5486 I can understand why you'd disagree with me. You have played the games, though I have not. Outside of RU-vid videos, I have no experience with the fights to go off of, so you might be right in the context of in-game. I still believe the remastered soundtrack is better on its own, though.
@@novidei7991 That's true. And that is where his biggest fault is. You could recognize the style and tone of the original as *the* Demon's Souls soundtrack instantly. While remake is just "Dark Fantasy Epic Battle Music", with little to no unique touch to distinguish it from hundreds of compositions, similar to it in theme.
I love both of them, but this new composer has no idea how to transitions. From listening to the new track, 80% of the transitions are incoherent choir shouting. Beats inbetween are great, but those transitions make my stomach churn.
@@davidwestin6345 I mean I don't, but you think that shit is good??? It breaks the flow of the music and its just obnoxious having a full choir screaming in your ear. Just listen to the Bloodborne track, (which was the new composers reference and somehow still screwed it up), only one song has random choir screaming. This here has it three-ish times in same song. I hate metal for the same reason, so I guess there are people that like it, but its not what I would call a good redesign of the DeS music.
@@davidwestin6345 It doesn't matter what its called, they did it horribly and I'm calling it out. I'm no expert, not even a novist, but all you need is a working ear to hear the rhythm, beat, whatever you want to call it, is violently disrupted by the choir randomly screaming. You can release tension alot better than just going AHHHHHHHHHHHH, in the middle of the song. Again Bloodborne track has tension and it does not resolve with AHHHHHHHH every time the song wants to change its tune. 2:14 This is the -ish time, where its still choir screaming but its not random, at very least it follows the beat or rhythm. 4:00 Song slows down then random choir scream that didn't follow beat to bring song back up from the dead because they couldn't think of any better way to continue the music... 4:55 Same choir shouting abruptly breaking the song beat leading to its unsayisfying conclusion. Honestly doesn't even sound like it released the tension here, more like it slaps you with tension and then ends.
the new one honestly doesnt fit the pace of the fight at all. kind of awkward to listen to while just standing still waiting for the storm king to get close enough.
And... the old one did? Not sure what you mean here. The new OST fits this fight perfectly, I remember standing there in awe as this behemoth descended down upon me, and the swelling orchestra really contributed to the spectacle of this fight. I found that the old theme was kind of reductive honestly, it seemed pretty insignificant compared to the battle that was actually taking place, and the new theme fills that gap masterfully.
@@hanson.martens5570 yeah, old theme was more mellow and fitting compared to the blaring orchestra playing while youre just standing in place waiting for the storm king to turn around imo old theme still had a mystique quality to it that added to the atmosphere of the fight.
@@zent8324 lol, you are the first (I've seen, and probably only) person to have that opinion. The new one is amazing and contributes to the mood and "epic" scale of the fight way more than anything the ps3 could do.
