Honestly, this video is super underrated. At a club level some of the hardest serves to return well are the half long serves to the forehand that is hard to tell whether its underspin or backspin, and most of the time I'll miss the ball or hit a poor return. Waiting for the ball to drop and spin up is actually super incredible advice. It's not obvious because most of the time you want to hit the ball where it doesn't feel "ugly". I think learning to hit the "ugly" shot and having the ball drop is honestly a secret tip that will tremendously help people receive serves better at an amateur level.
Listen to what I say in the video again. He does use his legs a lot, it’s just efficient and hard to see physically. But being someone who also knows how to play this shot, and play it well. I guarantee that the legs play an important role in backhand topspin against backspin
He is pushing off his legs exactly the way Heming describes it. If you freeze frame it at 1:23, you can see that Sansomnov is on his toes completely and his legs are extended from the squat position. Another way to prove this to yourself is to film yourself. Have a robot feed you two underspin ball the same quality. If you bend down and spring up, it will be much easier. Another thing to consider is that as he squats down, he also has the benefit of lowering the paddle below the ball.
@@robert2780the ball is hit at 1:13 and he is still crouched down, with no straightening of the legs. He had turned his hips/shoulders towards the backhand side and dropped the racket low and also angled his wrist downwards in preparation. I agree that to attack the ball it is necessary to crouch down so that the racket can be accelerated over a longer distance to counter the spin. There is probably some weight shift from left to right, but I still don't see any straightening of the legs BEFORE the ball is hit..... The straightening seems to be more moving backwards in preparation to receive the return???
@@heminghu1434 if he have same spaces - what better - allow ball rise ( but not highest point) or hit right after bounce? What should do if same ball move on forehand and you cannot jump back
Samsonov also had a backhand-heavy style, probably because he has long limbs and likes to play with a well rounded bat with lots of table control ... so he isnt jumping around to get in that quality forehand like many chinese players because he is able to cover the whole table anyway basically from his height alone ... and so his backhand is used much more. This way, he can block to very uncomfortable angles instead of adding a lot of spin with forehand. This style requires him to manage underspin with backhand. It is a player I have studied and its a style that I like to imitate myself. What I am questioning for myself is if I should develop an ability to twiddle the racket to a softer and more smash-friendly backhand rubber for when I do step around. Because, on my level, the balls I do step around on are quite high and I can probably control the hard balls better with Fastarc C-1 than with Rakza Z.
If you decide you want to play a spin ball rather than a speed ball. You must get down and let the ball drop as low as possible. Gravity getting the ball to travel downwards faster; will meet your rubber coming up at a higher friction = more spin

After you advise all my shot became much better)))) early i make more forward movement and i make many mistake, but now i understand that i need more spin then speed, and my movement became more up 😂😂😂😂 now my rally became like fan zhendong😂😂😂 but speed not enough, i used chinese rubber both side
Hey Hu, very helpful vid. I have 2 blue sponge provincial hurricanes and now i know why it doesnt work the way it intented. Unfortunately i streched out them on the blade.
Very good and helpful video questions I got from the video. 1. For club players will DHS H3 National/Provincial/Commercial make a difference? 2. When boosting how long do you wait for the booster to dry and do you put glue first or directly to the rubber? 3. When does an ESN rubber require boosting when most of them feel "alive" and are softer from the start than H3? 4. Do you lacquer blades before using them because I have had the problem when after few new rubbers blade starts to chip away is that bad blade quality and have you had that problem threw your career?
hey, nice questions 1. theres not much difference: national and provincial just quality control, the commercial its just only slower orange sponge 2. 8-24h depends on booster thickness 3. the harder ones like d09c
Thanks for the vid! I was wondering: when you started using H3 instead of Butterfly rubbers - did you have to change your top spin technique to adapt to the H3? You said that you're using more power , but is it still the same movement?
its way different technic with chinese rubbers, if u hit with ur arm like with esn rubbers the ball goes into the net and if u apply enough force to pull over the net with hurricane u will have shoulder pain. so esn rubber technic is hitting with ur arm, chinese technic is hitting with ur body (legs gives spin and hip gives power, this combined is the whip effect)
@@markhorvath760 not exactly, it’s lack of body use and lack of spin that causes physical pain and ball shooting into the net, essentially you haven’t activated the tighter trampoline and it takes more effort to get it going, the right trampoline being hurricane and looser trampoline being an esn rubbber
seems like 1. you know what to do 2. you teach us perfectly 3. i'm experienced watcher of tutorials, and i can tell this is great tutorial. THANK YOU wish you could teach me in person ;((((
lean back to create space so one can use that rotational force from elbow that I know, but it didn't come to my attention that snapping back is important until now. thanks

Hi coach. For beginner-intermediate level who are getting coaching lessons, do you have any good rubbers suggestions for forehand? I use h3n provincial blue sponge on my Petr Kolber blade, but I don't boost it because it is time-consuming and will prevent me from playing some days so I am thinking of switching rubber
The auto generated subtitles are doing more harm than good apparently theyre terrible at understanding your aussie accent. Instead of spinny it said speedy and instead of start beating players it said stop beating players

Could you explain how to do a backhand flick at the intermediate level? Most pros put a lot of pace on their backhand flicks and at the club level, we do not have this level of precision so it doesn’t feel realistic to copy. Curious how you would teach a safe, higher margin of safety backhand flick to a club level player.
Backhand flicks come in various methods. You can flick using the top of the ball for topspin or to the left hand side of the ball if it has underspin. The trick is you have to curl your wrist and come up the side of the ball using a very quick and full wrist motion. Watch Shunsuke Togami. He nearly uses this as his serve return on any serve, if they are not so short.
How to be consistent using side-splitting n pushes to disturb players - which kind of pushes to use them against for high consistency!! Might be a bit unusual but few people talk about such high level content
I struggle with going from defense to offense. Once I am pushed into a defensive position I usually just block and try to win with placement instead of countering at the right moment.
Can you explain how pros make backhand attack against some kind push right after the bounce ) what kins push i can attack after bounce and dont wait highest peak
The problem is when I have strong confidence before the match and expect to win I will get angry if my performance doesn't meet that confidence. So the moment I miss an easy ball I get frustrated and stop thinking straight causing me to loose more points
Just signed up. Looking forward to improve with you all ! Great videos btw ! I usually watch them as soon as they come out ! keep it up ! Any advice on being more aggressive? Often time my third ball is instinctively pushing ... Tips and tricks on how to understand if a ball come half long or long would be great !
Hello coach! have a question: Is the receive for reverse tomahawk and sidespin the same? Is the reverse sidespin and tomahawk receive the same? Is BH, tomahawk, and FH pendulum topspin receive the same? Same for underspin if we do it with BH, FH pendulum, or with tomahawk? Is it true that if we do a combination of spin like side underspin then the underspin is more priority so you receive it like a pure underspin or there are different angles?
Thanks for that man! I appreciate the kind comment When you say be more aggressive. This can means sooooo many different things. Can you elaborate or show me on a video what you mean? Ideally a clip of you. Show me by posting on the Skool communitu
@@GravitySix-G6great questions! This is my next video The short answer: no its no the same, you will need to adjust your body and timing of your shot to neutralise these spin directions.
