Have you thought about playing Malevolent Rumble instead of the Birthing Ritual? The colorless mana from the Eldrazi Spawn might help and digging 4 cards deep, when having no creature to sacc into Birthing Ritual might seem better for maybe grindier matchups? Similar reason why the other versions of the deck play the Shambling Ghast. Thanks for the insight on the deck and good job on that trophy!
@Radonised hello! The problem with runble to me is that there is not really anything we are ramping on 4 towards. I see it like this: I skip my T2 in order to to play 2x2drops of 4? With the curve of the deck I tuink 1 into 2 into 3 flows better. Also the decklist is pretty tight! I also think shambling ghast is super weak btw, we want the good cardos!
scales had the most abysmal titan mu ever nadu is basicly a faster titan deck i dont think scales is viable in a nadu meta but i wish everyone well who plays it cause i love the deck. the reason the nadu count is down is because the deck is unfun not because it got worse since the pro tour the people just dont play it if its not time for hard trying. As fast as the next pro tour rc in modern comes it will be the most dominant deck again and aslong as i have the nadu problem i dont even think about a ring ban
@michaschulz5182 they are allowed to ban more than one thing for sure. I do think that scale's Nadu mu is not that bad. We have a pretty fast kill ourselves they play 0 interaction maindeck and we have tons of ways to answer stuff post board. I don't play the mu much because it's an unpopular deck but it reminds me more of yawg than titan.
@@seriour the thing that Reminds me of titan is the way they get to the combo titan uses saga and pact to find the combo nadu does the same plus Chord. They often play 2 to 3 boseiju in main so its the same amount of interaction the titan Player has. I freely admit they cant search it like the titan Player. Nadu is faster and more constant as combo than titan is and titan was to fast for scales the most Times so i do not See why nadu shouldnt. And as long as you do not have walking balista you have no interaction to stop him either. Edit: and before someone says something i know titan can be faster than nadu but the 2nd turn kill happens not very often while the turn 4 kill is more often than the turn 3 kill while nadu mostly can kill in turn 3 so when i say nadu is faster what i mean is in average games not in every Single game
Do you think replacing Ring with the new Talent-Level enchantment that gives Ward 1 to things with counters on them and a counter every turn is reasonable? Seems like thats also a card designed for grindy games, sadly also extremely vulnerable to Wrath.
yeah I would rather play another deck than play the ring in scales. When a 4 mana defensive card is played in a tempo deck then maybe there is something wrong with this format
@@seriour For sure super strong, too much in my opinion and in a general way, you can potentially put that card in almost every deck and it’s always strong, this is the biggest problem. Thanks for the content Seri!
Thanks for the content. Very happy to have u back.
@@itsswiftytime8209 this is the version that won the challenge which I felt kinda sucked to be honest. I got a green version that I trophies twice in a row. I will post the video tonight!
@@seriourcongrats. What a second match, that was a class how to pilot this deck. I’m struggling against nadu (hopefully not for long), energy-wrath decks and the classics, but the moral is still high. As you said, no one is gonna be prepared to face scales in tournaments.
@@joseph196 I think osolith the shatered spire is super weak honestly :D you could also try karn, scion of urza on the sb for the grindy games (that is what ring is mostly for)
Hi Mr. Seri! Great to see some more videos from you. If I may ask, what are your thoughts on Kappa Cannoneer in Scales? I've done a little solo testing with Kappa instead of a few Patchworks, and I'm really liking what I'm seeing. It's like a more resilient, unblockable Patchwork that grows much faster than him. Any thoughts? Thanks
without 0 mana artifacts it's expensive to cast, in fact impossible to cast on turn 2, so more likely to get countered; without artifact lands it grows more slowly than in legacy; and patchy grows even the spell gets countered. you may try it in affinity decks. (legacy affinity deck now use patchy too)
Thanks for the video! Really liked the framework you describe with the core cards and then plan B and support :) How do you think is the deck right now? I regularly play the deck but hasn't been able to play much last two weeks
Harden Scales players assemble I have a major question! Does The One Ring fit in this archetype? I get that it is a plan b, but I am very doubtful that it is where the deck should be. It is a powerful card that wins on its own, but it seems like it is far off base from plan b. Harden Scales can be slow and a 4 mana artifact that doesn't immediately progress the game plan seems bad even with the addition of phyrexian tower. The One Ring is bad against non ring decks like prowess for being too slow, and probably being bad against ring decks for not being able to protect it or not securing a lock on the game fast. I would love to hear from you guys on this topic, because I just feel like the ring in scales is just too lost in the sauce.
Hello! This is a long topic but in general the ring is very good when you are dealing with very grindy games. Specially post board cards like wrath of the skies, brotherhoods etc can make it hard to just trade resources so then the ring can really be a great way to get back into the game. It is also another angle of attack and it has never been easier to cast it earlly with Phyrexian tower, drum and gemstone caverns. Might make a video all about ring one daY!
Great video. Great way to think of the match up. I especially liked the comment on trying to get your opponent to fetch shock. Never thought of it like that.
@@seriourhope to find a control opponent tomorrow at FNM. I understand what’s your view, I don’t know how much is enough pressure, a lonely 2/2 is enough to make them pull the trigger? I don’t think so, right? But it’s true that compared to other formats, our only creature can grow
I'm new to scales and MTG in general and I'd just like to say this video was very helpful in helping me understand how the cards interact with one another. One question though, I don't play MTGO so I might be mistaken, but the green plus with the number next to it on your creatures ARE +1/+1 counters right? If so, what effect is giving Zabaz 3 +1/+1 counters at 24:48?
Hello! You are correct. Green numbers=counters. Zabaz got 3 counters because Hardened Scales (the card) effects stack. So it enter the battlefield with 1 for modular+1for the first scales+1for the second scales. Hope this makes sense!
@@seriourOh okay, yeah that makes sense. Someone at the local card shop match told me that the ETB trigger for the modular +1/+1 counter wouldn't be effected by HS. Thank you!
Thought I let you know if you hadn’t seen the stream but aspiringspike said he really enjoyed your content and believe he has watched a few bit of it so keep it up :)
