Kinda makes sense. Pvz2 did so good and of course they didn’t care that there was mods. They wanna squeeze. Pvz3 dry, so any competition they gotta get rid of it
I really love how companies these days killing them selves (aka Microsoft with mojang and Es/popcap and many more) instead of actually doing something with their games wich litterly could never get popular without fans they always decide to leave the community on *Read* and say *we like listening to the community*
looks like the case how Activision use cease and decist on community made server for safer security rather than their own official server on games that have microtransaction. although if they let PVZ2 fan mod allowed why they don't let pvz3 fan game exist? alot of their beta tester even og popcap dev (already left the company) feel mixed reaction with the game that is already in hell development for many years.
Can't wait for the flood of PVZ inspired games by indie devs when they realize just how easy it is to mimic the gameplay of PVZ. The hard part is the theme tbh

This just boils my blood. The fans were making a game people actually want because they want to squeeze what's left out of PvZ3 while they refuse to do anything about the quality of the game
That Reddit message had so many loud incorrect buzzers it actually pisses me off that they spend more time monetizing and milking Pvz then actually wanting to see it thrive. I’m not even a pvz fan and I’m frustrated
The thing is that they probably know PvZ3 is gonna be sunset in the next couple of months due to financial instability, and because of that they’re trying to perform yet another sunken-cost fallacy in order to make back as much money as they possibly can before the game needs to be shut down. Because of this, they want to get rid of anything that could compete with it. I’ll add that this is probably the reason why the PVZ games were randomly dropped on the Epic Games Store, and why BFN and GW2 were dropped on steam. They’re trying to rake in as much money as they possibly can without much effort.
My strongest suspicion here is that your PvZ3 was shot down because to an outsider's perspective it looks like it is, or is trying to be, an official game. Those kinds of things *always* get shut down and you're not special in that regard, regardless of the visibly high quality present even in the minimally shown assets of the video. It's not because you threaten their fanbase, it's not because you could "do better", it's not because you might be taking their customers' money away from them. The fact is there are PvZ fangames out there that have lived and died at a higher quality than popcap's own works, some of them even sexually explicit in nature which is all the more reason for popcap or EA to want to shut them down but instead they let them be. Even Valve will shut down fan projects if they attempt to toe the line into pretending they are or could be mainline, despite being known for fostering a modding community- the only difference is they'll ask you to change the game name or promotional imagery first rather than just shooting you down straight away (as they did with Black Mesa originally being called Black Mesa: Source, somehow causing confusion despite "fan game", "fan mod" and "not affiliated with Valve" being plastered all over their website at the time.) On the flip side though, continually saying "we're better than them" or "they fear us" is kinda childish, and you don't want to make that the lasting impression of your product. Even if it's true (and it is), please try to have a more professional tone when shit-talking popcap, because there's a lot of godawful products that insist they're the best thing since sliced bread and put all negativity or criticism down to those exact same two lines. You're clearly not one of them, so please try to better distinguish yourself from them in attitude to match how far apart you already are in quality.
@@hadijahabutazil9132 Because if a game is pretending to be one of their own titles, or is being sold despite using stolen assets, they have to do so to protect their own IP. They took down, for example, TF2S2 because the process of porting TF2's assets to Source 2, while minimal, meant all of TF2's assets were repackaged with the game and TF2 could effectively be played as a premium user despite not paying anything. The HL2 Grand Package mod attempted to give a single executable access to HL2 and both episodes but they decided to package those assets into the mod rather than calling the assets via the SDK, and accordingly had to be shut down. Black Mesa: Source was just asked to drop the Source part of their name because of the number of valve titles that used "Source" in the name at the time, but were otherwise unaffected. Valve's multiplayer scene being a hack-ridden mess is a problem, but it's a problem that is completely unrelated to their intellectual property protection, and has nothing to do with them wanting to shut down anyone trying to make an alternative: TF2: Classic has been left unaffected, and remains fully playable which would not be true if Valve were simply being spiteful about it.

I think they should be allowed to make a fan game but steer away from the obvious intention of gathering a crew and calling it "pvz3: what could have been". I think they should be allowed to use some of the characters and ideas if pop cap was really all that supportive though. Maybe with time this will get sorted out by
At this point, just quietly quit PVZ & find different games to play. I used to be a fan of PVZ, but with EA & PopCap got greedy, I can no longer support them.
So why not just... Keep making the game? They don't have any legal grounds over this, correct? The fan game is fair use. Why should you respect popcap and EA if they haven't respected the community in years?
I imagine it’s because it was based on PvZ3 instead of 1 or 2. There are a dozen PvZ 2 fan games, none of them have been taken down despite all of them being offline, free, no microtransactions, and generally better in every way with their own unique twists. But we are still in the PvZ 3 financial cycle, which means anything that interferes with PvZ3 specifically can be seen as possibly taking customers and revenue away, and making fiscal reports look worse. It would be like someone modding Battlefield 3 (real example) vs modding Battlefield 2042, one is still financially relevant and is still being milked while the other only makes pennies and isn’t worth bothering. In an ideal world you’d have Pop Cap pull a Valve and try to learn from modders, invite them in, hire them possibly, and create a better experience for all while still generating profit. OR you can pull a Nintendo and keep everything under lock and key guarded by rabid lawyers, even the smallest of small projects like Gmod workshop items be hunted down and terminated. They already don’t allow the use of PvZ1 music, next will come fan games, then mods, then youtube content.
Why the (censored) did they make a melee class even more centered around melee, but that’s not my point, this is just demo-knight with wings, for jerks. Plus it’s not like the plants have a sentry or turret or some sort of speed demon to compete with the Sonic the Zombie.

Fill your games with greedy micro-transactions and game design that's so poor that a hapless newcomer could very well assume that Plants Vs Zombies didn't start as a video game, and then you have the *audacity* to single out and shut down a non-commercial fan project that could've been what your game should've been? *WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?*
I remember explaining to my mom that money was holding video games back. At first, she didn't buy it. And to be fair, it wasn't intuitive. After all, poor games don't sell, right? Then I told her to imagine that there's a $20 game, and 1,000,000 people buy it. Then, imagine a free game that's loaded with micro-transactions, and 10 people individually spend $500,000 dollars on it. She immediately understood that you "only need a few of those nuts to turn a profit." She was also creeped out that they're known as "whales," like they had some dystopian designation.
Probably because: -It was announced like a "better version" -The game is in a soft-launch when in many countries isn't released so it probably would provocate piracy (not directly but still...) -Pvz 3 wants to make, and for a soft-launch, is making money, so they are going to care for the most recent game in contrary to older games like Pvz2 who, still makes money, but not the same as past years

Again? Well they keep pushing this garb of a game to begin with and they know everyone hates it. EA should've stayed to the previous game style of pvz instead of some homescapes bs style of gameplay
