i feel the faster firing rate of the wrangler could be its own neutral thing, yes your sentry can spit out more bullets but you also burn through it very quickly forcing you to unequip the wrangler giving the enemy opportunity to kill you and your sentry, the wrangler can also be dealt with by splitting the attention of the engineer or just outright killing him.
It's a double edged sword, really good in certain situations but also can fuck you over. In casual, Wrangler is managable but as soon there is more team coordination, it can easily become incredibly difficult to deal with
I genuinely just don't get why they felt the need to have the effects extend beyond "equip to manually control sentry". How underpowered did they feel it was for it to absolutely require giving the sentry a shield while being wrangled?
I think Valve thought Engineer was too weak so they gave us a weapon that would make Engineer stronger. But I don't think they thought about this long enough, as we can see 14 years later
I think they thought the sentry would be too vunerable without it, since you cannot wrangle and repair at the same time. Plus the Engie has to expose himself to enemy players for the sentry to shoot anything
1. If you are using the wrangler to try and shoot at enemies out of your sightline using your sentry gun. I don't know how to break this to you, but you are just outright not using your sentry gun correctly. Your sentry gun is not a weapon, it is an area denial tool. It can be used to pick off players that are overextending or to pick off possible flankers. 2. Using the wrangler tends to make engineers tunnel visioned since they are required to aim the sentry gun at targets which leaves them open for a backstab. 3. While the shield may be busted, players will quickly learn to just target the engineer instead when the shield pops up and it kinda removes the whole strength of Engineer being able to force two on one fights with other players since he cannot switch weapons because then the sentry will be deactivated for 3 seconds upon either their death or switching weapons. 4. Thanks to the increased fire rate, the wrangler ends up chewing through your sentry ammo really quickly if you use it a lot. Which results in you needing to repair the sentry a lot more and combine that with the reduced healing repair rate per swing when the shield is active, and the weapon quickly becomes very tedious to use after a while. 5. This is more of a skill issue nitpick, but it's really easy to just whip out the wrangler when you didn't want to and then putting it away causes your sentry to get disabled for 3 seconds and then a heavy rounds a corner right when you didn't want them to. 6. While sentry jumping and being able to build nests in places you can't normally reach is cool. It isn't very practical in most games unless the enemy team is just really bad. While the Wrangler does have a very clear and defined use, in practice, you will find using it actually ends up crippling you in the long run. Having access to a pistol to do chip damage at longer ranges really does do wonders and being able to delete projectiles with the short circuit helps a lot during team pushes. Final thing of note is that the Southern hospitality is not bad at all. It's basically just the stock wrench but it does more base damage in exchange for no random critical hits and slightly taking more damage from pyros.
I'd say the Short Circuit has a worse design than the Southern Hospitality. Only bad thing about the southern hospitality is that it's just a boring design.
Short Circuit looks cool as hell, and has clear use. Southern looks boring and is boring to use as well. Your hits deal bleed? Wow, that's totally way better than faster upgrading or cheaper teleports.
I genuinely believe that a lot of the problems people have with last points on some maps being too hard to push is a result of the wrangler being disgusting, not the maps themselves. I don't understand why this weapon isn't the most hated weapon in the game, imo it deserves way more hate than the Kunai or Scorch shot due to how it makes pushing last points a slog and how it makes engineer stacking even more difficult/impossible to break through, all for just pressing 2 on your keyboard and giving up a pistol
I think because it's been so long in the game, people have gotten used to it, and it's not as noticeable compared to Kunai and Scorch, which these 2 really make it easy to notice. But yes, Wrangler makes breaking through last points a pain in the ass.
@@Thintech1 Go play a match with the wrangler and then play another match with either the pistol or short circuit equipped and then tell me straight up if you thought the applications of having the wrangler equipped outweighed the cost of giving up a reliable chip damage source or the ability to delete possible explosives that can destroy your buildings. In other words, count how many times you actually use the wrangler in your first match and then count how many times you actually use the pistol or short circuit in your other match.
I think it would be cool to do something like the equalizer and split the shield and aim control into two weapons to allow the engineer to still tank the gun without allowing him to fire back at the same time
I think it would be pretty fun if the split weapon had a recharge meter that gradually lowers the more you use it, so you would need to decide when is the right time to tank your sentry, instead of it now being brainless to use.
I want to thank you all again for helping me reach 3k subs. This video was close to being canceled because my external hard drive that had all my footage nearly died so it took few days to get my files back and then back up them to new drives. So safe to say, I lost few years of my life span to this hardware error.
upward is actualy a bad map, its just overhyped by "mainstream" you could say brainwhasing even, the tunnel and the final point are the worst offenders and first sniper sightline...ugh
I wouldn't really say it's a bad map, but you're right about the final point, it's ass. And when there is even a decent sniper at enemy team, it feels like you can't make any progress.
The only reason pretty much was Activision needed to overhaul the loot box system since it brought a storm of controversy, but they made it even worse.
What i love about abandoned upward. That it's a jungle theme map that is not following the jungle inferno look (it's older map) also raising the water up is neat.
I've found my own happiness playing TF2 not just with Engineer but with all the classes. And that was just with me figuring out that I should "Do whatever I want". When I first officially started playing TF2 in 2020 I felt pressured and influenced that the only way to play TF2 and the 9 classes is to play seriously like a comp player and follow biases of players who are popular and are good at the game and also play competitively. I went by that belief for 3 years and slowly, TF2 became less fun to me because I was advised away from trying other weapons, that the best weapons are a select 3 for each class. And the only playstyle you should play are like how every tournament player plays. And it really felt like TF2 was getting stale, I was feeling burnt out, and was just genuinely bored. Until I saw Uncle Dane play Engineer with just *stock only* as a gimmick for one video. And then I thought "Hey that looks fun, I should try it out." And I turned out enjoying it... I tried it out on other classes with the same results, and I was happy. Like really really happy. As time flies I accidentally opened up new knowledge for me. I came to know a lot of professional and competitive knowledge but when I play with stock. I understand the original class designs/concepts. So far to the point where I made a tutorial about *Stock Heavy* and *Stock Engineer* maybe someday I'll even do one for *Medic* and these tutorials are surprisingly helpful to people who have watched them. Even to Engineer, when Engineer was extensively taught by Uncle Dane. I made that video surrounding the idea that "you know how to play Engineer but have you tried to learn Engineer with stock only?" And it was very enjoyable for me and made me realize that I didn't need to force myself on popular opinions and biases... That's the reason why Valve added unlockable weapons, not to replace the stock weapons but to change your playstyle. *To try things differently whenever you want* and that's what I was finally doing. And honestly, till now I still prefer to play all the classes with just their stock weapons. *Not caring* at all about what people think or if stock is the best option for the match's situation. All that matters to me is that I was enjoying myself. Only sometimes I ever switch back to unlocks, and when I do it's not even the meta loadout opinions and biases. It's the loadout that I want... And that's what makes me happy, this is the true TF2 experience I was promised as a kid who wasn't able to play this game because I had no PC during the time. A fun shooter game, where you have fun. And I'm finally living it after all these years.
You would be surprised to find out that hobbies and stuff you like aren't as "cringe" as you think. I have been bullied for liking turtles for example, because it's "cringe" but ever since I moved to the city and met new people, they all thought that it's cool, so loud minority will always hate you being happy on your own zone
Ive been bullied for 2 years and Ive adapted certain behaviours because of it. This year, I'm going into a different class with vastly different people (sadly my old friends aren't there anymore) and Ive immediately noticed that all my "survival instincts" Ive adapted weren't necessary anymore. I've stopped judging myself too much and I've grown happier overall. But most importantly I've learned to not blame myself for everything bad that happens and understand the problems I face. Your environment has a bigger impact on you than you might think and be gentle with yourself <3
I developed some of those instincts too but luckily I was fortunate enough to meet so many accepting people that I just dropped most of them. Hopefully you get to have fun and peaceful class year
