What car are you thinking of getting as your dedicated car post ice Kia Carnival sale? I think let the wifey have the 2023 RHD Model Y P as her dedicated and grab yourself a slightly-used/brand-new 2024 built BYD Seal Performance sedan (make sure it works on v3 v4 Tesla Superchargers though)? and then buy ice unique/performance cars as your 3rd and 4th car to drive on weekends and to use on a track type thing. Which car you personally leaning towards as your 2nd household car? a Zeekr or an Xpeng might be a good option as your car too for your to make content with it. Would think best not to buy another Tesla as you already have one and can make Tesla content with that, and with the BYD/Zeekr/Xpeng can make different branded bEV content too
Very good video, model Y performance now around $87k drive away in QLD, like any tech prices do come down. Good to see prices coming down for future EV owners.
Battery Health monitoring via Tessie App seems comprehensive. Shows battery percentage remaining, capacity, range, charge cycles, comparisons to Tesla fleet etc . Assume it’s relatively accurate for 2nd hand market.
Yep, I love Tessie too. You’ll need to set up the car individually within the app to access. Otherwise on Tesla, I believe it’s in the service settings for current battery degradation. No history. Would like to think it’s something that is available to Non Tesla vehicles too!
This car is obviously amazing but howbin the firetruck could they have not included a HUD? That speedo in the top right hand corner is literally useless. Not to mention the changing drive mode situation. Think real world driving doung a 3 point turn with Sydney drivers honking you 😂 still keen though maybe there'll be a Temu HUD for sale at some point
They’ve changed the display to be much bigger now. As a Tesla owner for almost 18 months, it’s something you don’t really look at and pay attention to. There are plenty of aftermarket dashboards you can hook up in front of steering wheel. Not many options for an actual HUD though.
Thanks for sharing that Roland. Im a new home owner so there's a lot for me to learn. I don't have solar maybe in the future. I was wondering how do you include the gas component into the comparisons.and could this be tweaked to help monitor solar hot water systems as this is something I'm considering in the near future, and one last thing how are you calculating the c/WHh for the quarter? i have Dyscalculia so just trying to understand how you arrived to your costs 🙂
Hey there, sorry this message didn’t pop up in my notifications. I’ll need to have a think of how to include gas in there. I don’t have solar hot water so my gas is for cooktop and hot water at the moment.
How are the tyres looking after 12,000kms? Have a MYP on order but considering changing to the RWD.. The cost of tyres for the P is really putting us off, especially from what I’ve read of them not lasting too long. Brother-in-law has a RWD with 19” Gemini’s and 47,000kms - still on original tyres!
Seems OK at around 15-16,000KM for me. Tyres are expensive for sure! I would think the 21" on the P are a softer compound for more grip so likely to be replaced sooner. I don't think you should put off a purchase of wanting a P based on tyres. You can change wheels to a smaller set meaning thicker and cheaper rubber. Quality is dependent on tyre choice so could be a win for you.
@@ZappedAU changing wheels was my initial thought, but being under a lease there’s unfortunately things you can’t do, I’d assume that would be one of them! Wouldn’t have an issue buying $2400+ tyres if they lasted, but we do a lot of KM’s a year so would end up being a very expensive exercise lol. The downside of a P I guess!
Thanks for the test. One thing difficult to test is the reliability after years. Full vision parking no one has ever done before. Are those cameras still providing the required image quality for parking assistance after years in a real world? No one would know today. But ultrasonic sensors have been tested more than a decade. And it is relatively cheap to get it fixed and replaced. Keep in mind, if the reliability of parking assistance is a deal breaker for you, probably it’s not a wise decision to buy a Tesla today as this thing is still in experiment phase, to be honest.
Experiment or not; it was (based on factual data) the most popular selling vehicle (Model Y specifically) in 2023. I think at this point in time, I still prefer the Ultrasonic sensors but I have not switched back yet!
@@ZappedAU Just like laying off the entire supercharger team in one day. So many controversial decisions made by one man overnight. Yes, 2023 best selling with ultrasonic sensors, indicate stalks and growing supercharger network. After all these things gone, will it still be the best selling in 2024? Have a look at their inventory today.
Interesting that ChargeHQ are concerned about the Tesla API charges whilst OVO just released EV control for Tesla’s. I guess OVO primarily make a profit as an energy retailer to pay for this feature.
Things are moving pretty quickly on the EV front, I’m thinking there must be room for a ‘frequent-ish’ show like this. I was hoping someone would put together an ‘update’ show, and you did! Congratulations, Roland, I hope it goes well for you!
Totally agree. Thanks for the kind words. Will keep it weekly for now and re-evaluate in a few months on frequency and type of format. I.e. does this format suit better as a YT video or Short? Either way, always happy for your feedback!
Roland, in a reply, you raised the q of format - Short, or YT vid. For me, a few minutes of a YT vid allows me to ‘get my head into it’s more so than a half or one minute Short. Yeh, a few minutes (?10 ish) would suit me better. But you have a full time job, and a family. They will come first, I will appreciate whatever you do.
Thanks Colin! Perhaps a condensed version where I don't elaborate or share my views is better as a short. Let me try it next week and see how we go. i.e. For the new episode that's out - reading headlines and powering through. This will mean you can form your own view without any bias from mine but still get the relevant info.
Wanted to say thanks for an excellent test and fitment video. Saw these shades on another video and looked all over RU-vid for review videos, everybody just goes on and on about how easy it is to take on and off, while I do see small gaps in their video, nobody talks about it or zooms the video in showing the gaps. Your video is the only one that does a real world scenario road test and show the damn gaps. Keep up the good work!
You don't need a front camera. The problem why it wasn't seen is because the driver changed the setting from USS to Vision. If he drove in directly with Tesla Vision he would of course see it because the data is evaluated like when a person drives and sees something in front. Removing USS was the right decision; in FSD all cars drive without USS when deciding how to drive. The point of Tesla Vision is that a person who is driving only sees what he sees; he doesn't need ultrasonic sensors to estimate distances. In the long term, Tesla Vision will be better than the mature technology of USS.
Nice test. I was pretty skeptical about the vision park assist but it's actually a lot better than I expected. It still seems like it needs a bit of work when it comes to tighter spaces as it's a bit too conservative but in general it seems pretty good.
Actually your vid is the first that I’ve seen showing that the vision is better…. it shows the pillars. Lack of a cm distance doesn’t seem important to me if the colours are consistent with distance. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I agree with your comment but I think since we have grown and got used to USS with distance, there’s a much bigger change curve to adoption. Also acknowledging it isn’t perfect!
@@ZappedAU My first four decades of driving I had to use just pure vision to estimate distance. It’s only the last decade that I have had sensors on my car. I assume that in time the AI will be better at it than I am. So I won’t miss this recent introduction of ultrasonic measurements. 👍🏼😁
I know exactly what you mean. Whilst I haven’t driven as long as you, my first car had no cameras too! Learning to drive old school with eyes only has definitely gone out the window!
I just parked in my garage with TV turned on. I was very surprised to find that it doesn’t display distances to solid structures unlike USS. Pathetic! I’ve now turned it off and gone back to the USS. Very disappointed!
My argument is you always have your eyes anyway. The vision system seems superior at this point. Carparks are designed for cars without vision systems or parking sensors so you should be able to park fine without it. Always remember GOAL (Get Out And Look) if you can't judge the distance from the drivers seat.
@@DerekDavis213 Ultrasonic sensors are far from perfect. Very easy to reverse into a pole between two sensors or drive over a low garden bed. They have a much narrower beams than you may expect, and are only accurate at very close distances.
Fair point but in tight spaces, the sensors do work very well. Ultimately both have a use case. I do hope that Tesla doesn’t just disable the USS though.
@@ipullstuffapart And then there's the 8 Tesla Vision cameras, combined with AI and Neural Networks. And that system is so dumb, it will drive right thru a gate, right over a ladder in the road, and right over potholes and broken glass in the road. And it cannot read signs: DO NOT ENTER, ROAD CLOSED, etc. Tesla FSD is a simple minded Level 2 assistant, that is *years* *away* from Full Autonomy.
The inherent problem is it should use both. The USS is perfectly accurate for tight spaces and also shows when you're close to other cars NOT reversing etc.. TV doesn't seem to do that, and it's not great going in a tight garage. I'm using Summon every day in and out of a tight garage with USS and it works so well.
@@ZappedAU I did get EAP :D Loving it but yes, definitely favouring USS over TV right now. I'm still gonna give TV a week or so to do my garage reversing / some parking and really monitor the sides, but I just appreciate having the sensors and not some Rorschach blob test haha
@@ZappedAU Yep, agreed, mate. I tried Tesla Vision and switched back to USS within a few minutes. Why swap something that works for something that doesn't work?
I see your point. The only bit I felt vision worked better in my video was the fact that it identified a pillar whereas the sensors didn’t really pick it up as well. Having said that… pillars are pretty big so I’m pretty sure 99% of people would see it. I’m sticking by my words to test vision for about a month and will report back!
I got the USS for a reason. I don’t fully trust TV and am hoping to get a blended view. If not I’m sticking to USS, it’s robust and not gimmicky. Remember, it takes one mistake to damage the car or someone else’s car. My question to Tesla is why release something that is not a 100% reliable.
_why release something that is not a 100% reliable_ Tesla does everything to *cut* *costs* : no dashboard, just an iPad screen Ultrasonic sensors removed Turn Signal Stalk removed fast mediocre paint job, to save time
